Education: Questioning the Quality Evaluation Question 3
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
As part of our research and planning for our documentary, we created a
questionnaire to find out what different peoples preferences and ideas were
towards making a successful documentary. We found out different opinions on
aspects such as entertainment factors and what channels to put the documentary
on. Following the discoveries of the previous questionnaire, we created a
documentary based on the overall preferences of the people that we asked. We
decided in response to our final documentary and ancillary tasks, we would create a
second questionnaire to find out the feedback from more people that we showed
out documentary. Overall, we let 18 people view the documentary and participate in
the questionnaire, with the questions we asked outlining aspects to the
documentary, double page spread and the radio trailer.
Documentary
1. Do you think the documentary relates well to the subject well? Reasons. We asked the students of which we showed our documentary to whether the
subject related well. There was a mixture of answers that the majority all said which
included:
- Yes, there was a good variety of shots- Yes, the montage made the documentary more interesting- Yes, the use of a good location was very effective- Yes, interviews were professional and informative- Yes, there were lots of facts about the subject
These answers overall were generally positive for this question, with no people
thinking that the subject didnt relate well. This would be an area, which we
wouldnt change.
2. Does the documentary use the normal conventions of a documentary?
When we asked this question it was fairly clear that
everybody thought that our documentary used the normal
conventions seen in professional documentaries. This is a
good sign to show that we created a professional looking
documentary.

3. What do you like most about the documentary? Explain. When we asked this question, again there were a variety of answers, which
concluded the positive parts to our documentary.
- They like the formal interviews- They liked the montage- A good use of special effects- Music was catchy- A good variety of shots- The documentary flowed well
Overall, we were very pleased with the positive feedback from the questionnaire.
This gave us an idea of the area we didnt need to improve.
4. Does the music work with the documentary
When we asked if the music worked well,
overall people did like the music, however
there were 2 people that didnt like it. This
shows that the music choice wasnt to
everybodys taste but most people did like it.
5. Do you think that the shots were processed well? When we asked if the shots were
processed well, we were very
surprised with the results, as
everybody thought that they were.
This helps provide evidence to prove
that our documentary flowed well
(Question 3 answer). I feel that theshots were well processed and
worked together.

6. Is the voice over clear and concise?
When we asked if the voice over was clear
and concise we were pretty pleased with
the results. 16 people agreed that they
were clear, however with the 2 people
disagreeing it does show that maybe there
is some room for improvement on the
voice over.
7. Is there anything that you dislike about the documentary? We decided that we would ask to see if there were any problems with the
documentary. The general problems that people had to do with the documentary
were:
- Quality of the found footage was lacking- Camera sometimes panned to fast (dizzying)- Speech sometimes too quick
These reservations that people had to do with the documentary are all valid for
things that we would improve next time. I do agree that the found footage wasdefinitely of a lower quality and next time we would improve it.
8. Has the documentary taught you anything new?We decided to ask this question because we wanted to see if the documentary was
actually informative, which is what we set out to do in the first place. The general
answers given were:
- Schools choosing what students they want if they are an academy (popularanswer)
- Information about academies- The change in exams- Behavior policies in schools
These answers are exactly what we wanted to hear, this showing that the
documentary was informative. This also helps show that the audience were
interested in what was being said.

9. Are interviews/vox pops well framed? When we asked if the interviews/vox pops
were well framed, all but one of the
answers was positive, meaning that we
dont really need to worry about the
framing. I personally think that the
interviews/vox pops were well framed
apart from one of the vox pops, which
had a little too much dead space above
the person.
10.Were volumes consistent?
It was a mixed set of results when we askedif the sound levels were consistent. The
majority of people thought they were good,
however, with 7 people disagreeing, we
would definitely check over the sound levels
next time to make sure they were perfect.
11.Do you think it was a good subject to use?We think that the subject was a good
choice to use as only 2 people thought it
wasnt out of a possible 18 people. We
think that its down to some people
having a lack of interest in the subject.
However overall people did like it.
12.Are there any suggestions on how we could improve? We wanted to ask this question because we would like to find out how we could
improve if we ever made another documentary in the future. The overall responses
were:
- Dont play the music all through the documentary- Turn music down-
Get better footage of David Cameron- Make it more up beat

If we were to improve our documentary, we would definitely look into making
these improvements next time, especially the footage of David Cameron because
it did come across as being very blurry in the final product.
Double Page Spread
1. Does the magazine feature the normal conventions of a television magazine? When we asked if the conventions
were like the ones you would see in
a normal television magazine,
everybody believed that they were.
We were very pleased with the
results for this question.
2. Does the double page look appealing? We were also very pleased overall
with the response to this question, as
all but 1 of the people liked the look of
the double page. This was very
positive feedback, which we are veryproud of.
3. Does the double page convey enough information? When we asked if the double page gaveenough information, the results showed
that everybody thought there was enough
text. This was really good feedback, which
gives us confidence that the double page is
to a good quality.

4. What do you like most about the double page spread? We wanted to ask this question because we wanted to work out what people
thought were the best parts of the magazine article. The answers given were:
- Followed the conventions- Colourful- Liked the ripped paper- Photos- The layout was good- Professional Look- Everything- Informative
We were very pleased with the large array of responses that the people gave
because they said pretty much everything on the double page spread. The mostpopular answer being the colours used. As we based out magazine article on Whats
on TV we aimed to have bright colours to match their theme.
5. Is there anything that you dislike? As we had asked what things that the people liked, we also wanted to ask if there
were any faults with the product. The answers that the students gave were:
- Colours- Too much writing
Because a couple of people said that they didnt like the use of lots of colours, it
shows that some people dont like the vivid look of these types of magazine. One
student stated, that they preferred the look of a more formal magazine like the
Radio Times. However, our magazine was supposed to look like Whats on TV
magazine, so the broad use of colour is down to personal opinion.
6. Are there any suggestions for improvements? We thought that we would also ask this question to see if there were any parts ofthe magazine we could improve for future tasks. The suggestions they gave were:
- Change the colours- A better main image- Change the yellow masthead
These changes would be easy to make the net time around. The general reservation
with the double page spread was the broad use of colour. Maybe next time we could
try basing our double page on a more formal magazine.

Radio Trailer
1. Does the radio trailer make you want to watch the documentary? Most of the people that we asked if they
would like to watch the documentary
from the radio trailer advertisement
said that they would be interested in
watching the full product. However,
after seeing that 4 people disagreed, it
made us want to investigate as to why
they disagreed.
2. Are the sound levels constant throughout? When we asked if the sound levels were
constant, we had more positive outcome
for the levels compared to the levels in the
documentary, however we still had 4
people disagree, which makes us think
that they still need a little tweaking.
3. Does the music work with the voice over in the radio trail? We used different music in our radio
trailer to the documentary. Overall
compared to the music in the
documentary, the students actuallypreferred the music in the radio trailer.
The music used more synths to make it
sound more modern. We believe that
this is a better choice because its more
current. The people in this question
prove this.
4. What do you like most about the radio trailer?

7/29/2019 Education Questioning the Quality Evaluation Question 3
8/8
We decided to ask this question because we wanted to find out what the students
liked the most about the radio trailer. It will also help for future reference because
we then know the factors that we got right. The answers the students gave were:
- Sound Levels- School Bell noise used at the beginning- Music- The extracts were clear- Informative
Its interesting to see that the people liked the sound levels because in question 2 a
few people disagreed. We were overall very pleased with the results, especially the
how one person liked how informative it was, which is what the radio trailer was
designed for.
5. Do you think the extracts give enough information about the show?We really like the positive feedback
that we got for this question, as it
shows that the radio trailer was
successful at advertising the show.
Along with the overall positive feed
back from the other questions, it
shows that we have a decent radio
trailer.
6. Is there anything that you dislike about the radio trailer? We also wanted to find out what people disliked about the radio trailer to make sure
that we didnt make the same mistakes for future projects. The answers we recorded
were:
- Too many interviews- Music a bit loudBoth of these dislikes we found were definitely a problem we would like to improve
if we did the same project. The loud music seems to be a problem throughout the
documentary and radio trailer. This gives us good reason to keep a careful check on
the levels on both products.
