CREATIVE ACTIVITIES Project Manager for nine digital library projects with my LIS 5990/4990 Digital Collections class at OU and my LIS 563, Digital Libraries class at UB. Each digital library, with the exception the Room2Grow, was created for a small cultural heritage organization in Western New York and has since been maintained by each organization. Room2Grow was developed for the Buffalo School District Teacher’s Association. Each are described below. 1. The 2014 Digital Collection class at OU designed and implemented the Cleveland County Genealogy Digital Library in the Spring of 2014. The digital library is available at: http://129.15.160.15:8383/greenstone3/library until the Cleveland County Genealogy Library migrates the site to the Pioneer Library website in 2015. 2. The 2010 Digital Collections class at OU completed the design and implementation of the Robert Bebb Digital Herbarium in the Fall 2010 semester. I will be migrating the Robert Bebb Digital Herbarium to the OU Biological Survey servers in the Spring of 2011. 3. The 2008 Digital Libraries class has completed the process of building and populating a digital library project for the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society Library (BECHSL). The project was completed in April 2008 and is in the process of being migrated to the BHSL. 4. The 2007 Digital Libraries class built and populated a digital library project for the Karpeles Manuscript Museum. Dr. and Mrs. Karpeles own the largest private collection of original, historically significant manuscripts in the world. The Karpeles Manuscript Museum has nine different locations within the United States. For this project we will be working with diverse collections including: Women’s Historical Contributions, Music Manuscripts including notes from Beethoven, Walt Disney early character studies on vellum and other media, including Steamboat Willy development sketches, and 16th and 17th Century Turkish educational maps. 5. Firebrary: The Buffalo Fire Historical Society’s Digital Library: Buffalo Firefighter’s Museum’s digital library, 2006. The Firebrary was created for the Buffalo Fire Historical Society to provide global access to the unique, historically significant collection of the Buffalo Fire Historical Society. The digital library is now maintained by the Buffalo Fire Historical Society and can be viewed at: http://bfhsmuseum.bfn.org/ 6. Wings over Western New York: Niagara Aerospace Museum Digital Library: Niagara Aerospace Museum’s digital library, 2005. Wings Over Western New York was created for the Niagara Aerospace Museum to help the museum develop a digital presence and hopefully to bring more visitors to the museum. Wings also provides access to the rich aeronautics history of the Western New York region. The digital library is now maintained by the Niagara Aerospace Museum and can be viewed at: http://aerospace.bfn.org/DL/home.htm (As a side note, the students really wanted to help out the museum further so they re-designed the Museum’s entire website to be consistent with Wings.) 7. Bentley Snow Crystal Digital Library: Buffalo Museum of Science’s Wilson A. Bentley (snowflake man) digital library, 2004. The Bentley Snow Crystal Digital Library was created for the Buffalo Museum of Science to make this one of a kind collection of the first snow crystals

ever captured on film available to the world. The digital library is now maintained by the Buffalo Museum of Science and can be viewed at: http://www.bentley.sciencebuff.org/index.htm 8. Pierce Arrow Digital Library: Buffalo’s Pierce Arrow Museum, 2003. The Pierce Arrow Digital Library was created for the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum to allow a more global reach to the museum’s unique collection. The digital library is now maintained by the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum and can be viewed at: http://www.pierce-arrow.com/btpam%20photo%20library.htm 9. Room2Grow: Digital Library of web resources for educators and parents of special needs children and youth, 2002. Room2Grow was created for the Buffalo School District Teachers Association to assist teachers, administrators, and parents who work with or have youth with special needs. The project is now owned by the Buffalo School District Teachers Association but has not been maintained. The original project can be viewed at: http://informatics.buffalo.edu/faculty/abbas/room2grow/index.asp Project Manager for three indexing projects with my LIS 514, Indexing and Surrogation, Master of Library Science students. See teaching statement for more details. Each indexing project provided access to valuable collections that were previously not indexed. Hobbies Serial Collection of the Buffalo Museum of Science indexing project. Fall 2006 in process. In collaboration with the Buffalo Museum of Science, students designed the metadata scheme, input rules, and completed indexing for 6 decades of the Hobbies serial which contains articles of interest to anthropologists worldwide concerning the wealth of anthropology collections at the Buffalo Museum of Science. Illuminations Photo Collection: Pan American Exhibit indexing project, Fall 2004. In collaboration with Brenda Battleson and John Bewley, both UB Librarians, students designed the metadata scheme, input rules, and completed indexing for over 1,000 digital images of UB’s Illuminations collection. The indexing has been integrated along with the images into the UBdigit digital repository available at: http://ubdigit.buffalo.edu/collections/lib/lib-mus/lib-mus013_PanAm.php Pierce Arrow Newsletter indexing project, Fall 2003. In collaboration with Mary Ann Sandoro of the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum, students indexed select issues of the Newsletter. The indexing is currently being used by museum staff to develop a database of people who worked at the Pierce Arrow Company. Faculty Advisor to a new Library and Information Science online peer-reviewed student journal entitled: Library Student Journal (LSJ) that is edited and published by students at the University at Buffalo and students worldwide. The journal is now available online at: http://informatics.buffalo.edu/org/lsj/ The first issue was published in Fall 2006.
