The concert is part of The Little's 90th anniversary

celebration, and also serves as an ode to the

theater's illustrious history.

Locke recorded a live vinyl album at The Little, "In Front of the Silver Screen," in June 1983. The album from The Joe Locke-Phil Markowitz Quartet opens with "Restless Dreams," and includes six songs. As noted on the record's liner notes Markowitz taught Locke at The Hochstein School in Rochester.

Locke is a six-time recipient of the Jazz Journalists Association’s

“Mallet Instrumentalist of the Year” Award, has received two

Earshot Golden Ear Awards for “Concert of the Year” and the

2013 Hot House NYC Jazz Awards for Best Vibes Player, and

keeps topping critics and readers polls. In 2016, Locke was

honored with the induction into the Music Hall of Fame of his

hometown Rochester.

He describes his latest release Subtle Disguise (Origin Records, 2018) as “the total expression of who I am as a musician and human being”. The album features Jim Ridl, Lorin Cohen and Samvel Sarkisyan – all formidable musicians in their own right and hugely important to the development of this project – who will be joining Joe for this special night at The Little.
