Scoring the Spelling Inventory

Complete one feature analysis for each student.

Determine a “power score”--words correct

Look for features represented correctly

(In general, give students credit when in doubt & make a note of the strategy they might be using)

Determine a Spelling Stage

Instruction should begin at the point where a student first makes two or more errors on a feature.

Gradations: Don’t make decision too weighty; take a step backward to choose activities that are slightly easier when introducing routines.
