The band was almost doneThe soft sound of the needles clickety clack
Finish one row, turn around and go back
Finally, it was taking shape,like a bird making a home in its nest
we know whatever Edna madeit was sure to be one of the best
Wonderful gifts each stitch made with lovea creative gift that was so easy to see
A jumper for this one, some scarves for themor for a new baby a layette or three
A bonnet, a jacket and bootees tooWill they need to be made in blue or in pink?
Perhaps lemon is safe, she could do them there and thenInstead of having to guess or even to think
The knitting needles are now silentNot a sound more will they make
But what a wonderful lesson Edna has left usTo always give more than you take.
