With the passing of all of my grandparents in mid August, and over the last four weeks since we distributed our last magazine, the beginning of fall has gone by like a flash and for most of you, this rings true as well. Our last issue was about the “why” of shopping and spending locally with retail.

This month, we will be highlighting all of the reasons Edmond, and Oklahoma, are amazing during the fall, whether it be the weather, the colors, football or the food that comes with it! Oklahoma has some of the most amazing food available and most especially during football season.

We are also highlighting some of the fantastic female business owners here in Edmond who not only are involved in the business community but in the community as a whole and we highlight how they make a difference in Edmond and beyond, what they love about doing business and what the struggles are for women in business. And with so many wonderful female business owners in Edmond, this will be a bi monthly feature!

To help the Senior Center, who had their meal program cut in 2009, the Downtown Business Association is holding their 1st Annual Festival of the Trees on Dec. 3rd & 4th at the Downtown Community Center to benefit the Edmond Senior Center Meal Program located at the MAC.

The application for participation is November 15th. They prefer that you use artificial trees & LED lights. Electricity will be provided and large wreaths are preferred. Tree/wreath set up will be December 2nd 8 am to 9 pm and December 3rd 8 am to noon with the silent auction happening Dec. 3rd from 1 pm to 6 pm & Dec. 4th from 10 am to 6 pm at the Downtown Community Center

So, you’ve decided to finally do it. You’re going to get serious about getting back into shape. No more excuses, no more lying to yourself that you can do it on your own. It’s time for some professional help. You may be a member of a gym, you may realize that those 15lbs you’ve put on since last fall aren’t really that necessary, or you may just want someone to keep you accountable to your health and fitness goals. No matter what the reason is for hiring a fitness trainer, you want to make sure that your investment of time and money pay off.

How do you go about finding the right trainer for you? Just as it probably happened when you were in school, some teachers you just couldn’t stand, and others you loved. The same thing could potentially happen if you get a trainer assigned to you, or if you dive into this endeavor without asking some important questions first.

I recommend setting up an initial consultation with a potential trainer. In this consultation you can use this handy tool as a guide to see if you LIKE the person you’re about to hire:

1. L - LOOK. Do they look the part? A professional fitness trainer should look like they practice what they preach. They don’t need to be a model, but they do need to be a fit looking person.

2. I - INSPIRE. Do they inspire you to be healthier? You should have a definite feeling of, “I can’t wait to get started” Inspiration can come in many different packages but suffice it to say that there is something about this person that makes you want to work hard.

3. K - KNOWN. Are they known around the gym or around town? The best advertising is word of mouth and in the training business referrals are what a trainer will live or die by. Did you get this person’s name from a friend who saw

amazing results? You can take a gamble if you have a good feeling about someone but tried and true is nice when you’re shelling out $50-$100 a session.

4. E - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE. Your potential trainer should be able to provide you with a nationally recognized fitness certification. ISSA, NASM, ACE, AFFA, NAFTA, and NSCA are a few of the well-respected organizations that provide certification. How long have they been training people? The more experience the better, so ask them. This shouldn’t be a deciding factor on it’s own but should be taken into consideration along with the others.

I hope this tool can help you in your quest to find a fitness trainer. Of course, there are always going to be intangibles. If you have a really good feeling about someone then trust yourself. Have fun changing your body, and your life!

Has life gotten in the way of a good skin care routine? A tighter budget, a new baby or a new job can add stress and take away time for yourself. All is not lost! With only three steps necessary for a good skin care routine and thoughtful product purchasing, you can make it.

The three steps necessary to take proper care of your face are cleanse, tone and moisturize. It amazes me that most people only wash their face once a day - and in the morning at that! Then they wonder why their face looks dull and bumpy! Our skin does need cleansing on a daily basis and in Oklahoma when the wind starts blowing; we end up with dust and dirt on top of the sunscreen and makeup! Without proper cleansing it leads to clogged pores, which can lead to blemishes.

Soap isn’t the best thing to wash your face as it strips the skin of all of its natural oils, leaving it dry and feeling tight. Some people think clean skin is dry skin so they strive for a tight, taut feel. Face washes are a good alternative. However if your skin is normal to dry and you use a purifying face wash because you have a few pimples, then you may also experience too tight, dry skin. Remember that clean skin can be soft and supple because the cleanser that is right for you better matches the PH level of your skin. This means the cleanser won’t strip the oils completely.

In the summer when it’s blisteringly hot, a foaming or gel cleanser for normal or combination skin may feel great. In the winter when the heaters come on, take it down a notch and try a creamy cleanser with some glycolic acid. On the market now are face wipes that claim to do the same thing as face washes. Don’t believe it! Face wipes are great for camping trips and emergency face cleansing only but there is no deep, down cleansing.

I used to think that toners weren’t really necessary until I found a toner that made my skin look amazing. Toners close the pores after cleansing and rebalance the skin. Toners can also attract moisture to the skin via hyaluronic acid, stimulate collagen production via peptides or gently sweep away dead skin cells. There are some great products that cleanse and tone in one step so if you feel you don’t have the time, this may be an acceptable alternative.

Moisturizers are the last step and are very important, especially in the morning. (NOTE: Never put makeup on bare skin - always buffer with a moisturizer.) Some moisturizers come paired with sunscreens mixed in which make a great duo. Not all do so read the label carefully to make sure you are getting the protection you need. Even if it is an overcast day, the sun is still shining and skin-damaging rays are still getting through.

All sorts of different claims are being made for moisturizers so it’s important to find one that works well with your skin. Sample products before you buy and don’t believe all the hype from slick, nationally produced advertising campaigns.

Being realistic in your expectations of your skin care products is probably the most important element in finding the right products for your skin. Let’s face it: if you have had acne for several years, one skin care cream is not going to clear it up immediately. And if you have been a sun worshipper for years, those deep crow’s feet will not disappear overnight. You can improve the appearance and quality of your skin by choosing appropriate products that will give you realistic and sometimes amazing results, but finding the right product mix can take time. That will be our discussion for next time!

Jump Into Fall GardeningBy Bruce Maxwell of Maxwell Landscape Co.

Welcome to fall. It is here and I’m glad for it. This summer was unlike any I had seen in a while but cooler weather is here to. There is a lot that we need to be doing this time of year to prepare for old man winter.

Let’s start by getting our rakes out and raking leaves. It is important to keep the leaves picked up and removed from newly seeded Fescue. The sun needs to get to the seeds in order to germinate properly. It’s also important to keep the leaves raked so we’re not a fire hazard to our neighbors.

1. It’s time to plant fall Seasonal Color and spring bulbs. Pansies, kale and cabbage are perfect for fall and winter seasonal color.

2. Continue cutting your grass as needed. You will only need a couple more mowings this season.

3. If you haven’t done so, get a pre-emergent applied now with a post emergent added to kill any weeds that are still lingering in your turf. Do not apply over newly seeded Fescue!

4. In the first week of November, fertilize cool season grasses again.5. Now is a good time for a soil test to correct nutrient deficiencies before winter.6. Dispose of pines cones of pines infected with Diplodia and Dothistroma. Prune

out all dead tips.7. November 15 is the best time to start pruning most trees and shrubbery.8. Place a net over your garden ponds now to prevent leaves from falling into the

water.9. Cleanup marginal water garden plants after the first frost kills the tops.

There is a lot to do to prepare for the upcoming winter months. Do it today while the days are still mild. Until next time, continue to be the envy of your neighborhood.

How long have you been in business with the Fashion Boutique?

With this particular Fashion Boutique, this will be my 9th year in business.

What activities are you involved with within the community?

I am on the Urban Board and have been for 8 years. I am chairman of the Downtown Arts Festival for Downtown Edmond, and am very involved with the Downtown Edmond Business Association.

What challenges have you noticed, in the last 9 years, are there for female business owners?

Economically with it’s ups and downs. However, the downs have not all been bad. I feel that when the down times come, it’s very important to keep the store stocked, so that when they do come in, there is something available for everyone. I have struggled to do this at times, and feel like I have accomplished my goal. In the down economy, I feel I have worked harder so that when some customers only have a few dollars to spend, I feel I have been able to provide what them with what they are looking for. In providing a great customer experience with my store and my staff, I am building my customer base, and we continue to do what it takes to make our customers happy.

Do you use social media for your business?Yes, we use it to promote the latest products to let the

customers know what we have in stock.

How long have you been in business with Cinnamon Bears?

I’ve been in business for 5 years. I actually waited one year to move into this particular location for its space and lighting.

What types of organizations are you involved with in the community?

I am the president of the Downtown Edmond Business Association and we, as a collective group, host a number of community events here on Broadway in Downtown Edmond. We are very interested in educating the public of the importance of shopping locally.

What are the challenges you face in doing business, as a woman owned business?

I never really think of the gender part of owning my own business, so I can’t say as to whether I have had any other challenges than any other business person. As a woman in business, there are challenges but none that have presented any issue in running my business here in Edmond.

How do you use social media for your business?I use it for my business to let the public know what product

we have in stock and for DEBA, we use it for community events, information, etc.

We’ve been in business for 19 years and 12 years in the Kickingbird location.

What activities are you both involved in within the community?

We work Community Education Opportunity that brings authors & speakers in to speak, and with different organizations that give books to schools and children by giving them a substantial discount. The more books they have the more children they can reach. We do this within Edmond, Deer Creek, Stillwater, and in Oklahoma City. We’ve collected food for RFBO, and we help high schools via their fundraising weeks.

What challenges have you faced as a female owned business?

We haven’t really noticed any challenge that is gender related. Like any business, we focus on our product selection and customer service. When we have customers that are looking for something we don’t have, we make sure we can find it for them.

How do you use social media?We have a website with our current events, speakers,

and specials along with all of our information at bestofbooksedmond.com.

How long have you been in business with Super Suppers?

I’ve been in business a little over 3 years with the storefront as well as catering throughout the community commercially and with non profit events.

What activities are you involved with within the community?

I support Mobile Meals by offering their cookbooks for sale, I try to donate to all of the high schools during their fundraisers, and I participate with Arise Ministries which helps out single moms. I also like to donate to families that are down on their luck through these ministries during the holidays by donating meals.

What challenges have you faced as a female owned business?

I haven’t really noticed any specific challenges to owning a business that are related to being a woman specifically.

Do you use social media or networking in your business marketing?

I utilize networking for my contacts where it relates to catering business events in the community, and really getting to know the business community.

The 8 women in business we are highlighting this month are strong examples of how women can create a business network of accountability, expertise, intelligence and understanding the new thought process about business & marketing in a down economy, as well as why community and civic participation is so important.

How long has Paint Your Art Out been in business and being that you are not a franchise, where did you come up with the concept?

Ten months, as we really opened our doors on January 1st, 2010. There is a similar store in South Alabama that I just fell in love with that has customers come in and you can paint your own pottery. I just wanted to combine that idea and bring in a creative influence to the area and provide a place that offers something fun to do.

What are involved with within the community?We joined the Edmond Chamber of Commerce and like

to get involved and host events with other fun businesses locally. We’ve done events with Edmond Mobile Meals, Paws for Life, the Leukemia Society and this December with Rhino Conservation.

As a female owned business, what challenges have you faced as a start up?

Really I haven’t had any challenges related to being a female owned business.

How do you use social media to promote your business?

We use social media to promote Paint Your Art Out by posting photos of each session, to post the day’s painting, offer online registration for our paint sessions and to provide, via our website paintyourartout.net, our monthly painting schedules complete with painting examples.

When did you start working with The Small Group Architectural Firm?

I started working with The Small Group in 2008, after moving here from Kentucky. I graduated with a BA and an MBA with a focus in marketing. Moving out here was an awesome opportunity to apply this in a more creative outlet.

What are you doing with the Downtown Business Association to bring them into the social media arena?

As a collective group, we are trying to get more organized as a group, where we have the Downtown Edmond Facebook and Twitter pages, which not only showcases the events going on but these accounts also showcase all of the businesses in Downtown Edmond to build the community awareness. We are also encouraging the businesses to utilize the power of social media which is a very powerful tool in reaching out to the community, to which some of the business owners aren’t aware as they aren’t utilizing it on a daily basis.

As a woman in business, how do you balance your real time day to day activities and social media?

It helps that I don’t have a cool phone (laughs). So when I leave the office, I’m completely unplugged. When I go home, I don’t turn on a computer or answer email. You have to have that balance.

I have been in business for 1 year.What have been some challenges starting and running

your business in the past year, i.e. age, length of time in business, etc.?

I represent the 25 year old age group and even with that I have yet to encounter anyone not taking me seriously because of my age nor being a woman in business.

Is it easier to do business, especially as a start up, in a female oriented industry such as wedding planning?

In some ways it is easier. The wedding industry is very competitive but everyone is in a network together and we can relate to each other. Being able to refer other businesses within this industry in OKC is amazing because there is just so much talent out there.

As you’re nearing your one year anniversary of starting up Emerson Events and Design, what did you think of the business start up experience?

It’s been hard but it’s also been fun, exciting and worth the challenge.

How do you utilize social media for Emerson Events and Design?

It really makes it easy to reach out to brides and provide them with advice, more than just selling a service to them.

How long have you had your Farmers Insurance Agency in Edmond?

I’ve been in business for 15 years, and I’ve been in my building on Hurd St. for 7 years.

What types of organizations within the community are you involved in?

I am on the board of the Downtown Edmond Business Association, as I really believe in keeping retail dollars here in Edmond but also local service providers, too. If you buy your insurance from a 1-800 number, none of that money goes to benefit Edmond, it leaves the state. If you purchase from a local agent, we have payroll, we shop locally, and all of that money stays here in town. I am also involved in Northwest OKC Rotary, I’ve been President, District Trainer training incoming officers and right now I am the assistant Governor.

What challenges do you find being a woman in business?I actually don’t find any challenges and feel I have a step up in

being a woman in business because I find that people enjoy doing business with women.

How do you use social media with your business?I use it two ways: I broadcast helpful and useful information

for people about insurance that isn’t always common knowledge in a non sales way and I use it to let people get to know me. There are 19 Farmers Agents just here in Edmond, all selling the same product at the same price, and all I can offer is to be a better agent for them, let people know that I have good character, I love my family and care about my community.

Summer is over, the kids are back in school, the weather has cooled off and there is one thing on everyone’s mind: football.

Everyone, including the die hard sports fan, knows the key to enjoying the big game is a good tailgate party, where the highlight is whatever is on the menu.

Cooking for large groups can be daunting, but there are a few tricks of the trade to ensure your tailgate party has the best food for the best fans.

1. Variety is important. As a good host, you’ll want to offer a diverse menu to try to satisfy all your guests’ varying tastes. Pick your main dish, and add something healthy for those on diets, like a fruit and veggie tray, a salty snack and a dessert for your sweet tooth.

2. Think about portions. When you’re shopping, keep in mind that a mixed group of adults usually uses about 1.2 servings per person. For example, if the recipe says it serves 25, expect it to serve 20.

3. Plan ahead. If your menu items are going to take time to cook, save time by finishing your preparation earlier in the day, or even the day before. And it’s always a good idea to make a checklist when preparing a large menu to help you map out your cook time.

4. Don’t forget to preheat. Before it’s time to start grilling, preheat your grill for approximately 10 minutes with the burners on high and the lid down. This way, your burgers and franks cook quickly and evenly.

5. Use the right serving dishes. The biggest challenge at tailgate parties

can be keeping hot food hot, and cold food cold. Crock pots, chafing dishes or insulated carriers will keep your dishes warm. For cold foods, sealed plastic baggies filled with ice can be placed in the bottom of containers, or the entire container can be placed in an ice bath.

6. Use small serving utensils. Most diners take two spoonfuls, regardless of the spoon size. Also, offer small appetizer plates instead of dinner sized plates because people generally fill their entire plate.

Lastly, remember to have plenty of trash bags available for cleanup.

No matter what team you are rooting for, these tips are sure to make for a great tailgating experience!

LotsaNoodles is located on Memorial, just south of the AMC 24 theaters, and in our opinion is a great choice to consider for tailgating & watch parties.

Paulo & Patricia Paes are the owners of LotsaNoodles. They are very involved in the community and are also very aware of the decision to run their business supporting other local businesses.

Their love of food well done and for people really shines through in everything they do. They prepare each dish from fresh ingredients, including their cheese & vegetables, they utilize Ben E. Keith foods here in Edmond and you can tell with every bite of any dish you order here, this is what sets them apart from other casual dining establishments.

Not only are Paulo & Patricia concerned about keeping it local with their business purchases, they are very involved in the local community. Once a month, they feed 100 homeless shelter residents and have been doing so for years. They donate proceeds from their sales to local elementary schools and offer Kids Eat Free Mondays. Custom chef prepared catering is something that most people don’t think about for tailgating, however Chef Colin Davies, who works wit h Chef Beau Stephenson at Bin 73 on Western Ave. prepares catering orders all the time.

We asked Chef Colin to come up with 3 dishes that he would serve for a tailgating/watch party and here they are:

Pulled Pork Sandwich with a 3 pepper slaw and carmelized onions. We tried this sandwich and it was amazing. Definitely a go for any tailgating or watch party!

Reggae Country Style Pork Ribs with Peach Mango Salsa. The flavor of these ribs with the salsa was amazing and definitely an easy dish to take to your next party, whether it’s at the game or someone’s home.

Jamaican Jerked Honey Beef Kabobs with Grilled Panzanella. These kabobs had the best flavoring of any kabobs we’ve had and a great choice for tailgating/watch parties. To try these dishes, give Bin 73 on Western Ave. a call or stop in to try them for yourself!

Going into the State Finals for Girls Softball Edmond North was the clear cut favorite for the title. They entered the playoffs as the number one ranked team in the state. Once they were in the tournament they lived up to that billing by knocking off Bartlesville 12-0 in the first round. In the second round of the double-elimination tournament the Lady Huskies faced Moore and they leveled them 7-2.

By the time the North squad got to the semifinals they seemed invincable. They were on a roll and the State Championship was theirs for the taking, but then something bad happened—Jenks happened. The lady’s from Jenks literally came out swinging and immediately put big numbers on the board that North was unable to answer. Going into the 5th inning Jenks led 9-1. Batting at the bottom of the inning, Jenks put two more runs on the board and ended the game at 11-1. It was a crushing blow to the North squad.

Jenks lost to moore in their second round of the playoffs, 7-6. Since this was North’s first defeat of the tournament, the two would have to play again to decide who would move on to the Championship game. Once again Jenks would prove to be the better team on this day as they took the Lady Huskies down, 5-3. Jenks went on to lose to Yukon in the final.

Both Edmond North and Edmond Memorial look to be on the right path to make it into the post season. Currently both teams are in fourth in their respective divisions—only the top four teams advance in each division—and both are 3-3 in division play. But for either of them to make it into to the playoffs they will both need their chips to fall in the right place. Basically both Memorial and North must win their final game of the regular season for a chance to advance.

Memorials season has been hampered by injuries to key players like quarterback Kameron Doolittle (ankle) and runningback Cale Olbert (knee). But Doolittle is back on the field now and their offense has been re-energized, which was evident during their 31-14 rout of Norman North. But the final regular season game against 8-1 Yukon will surely be their toughest challenge yet.

For Edmond North to make it to the playoffs they need to beat US Grant, who has gone winless all season. By all rights they should be able to accomplish that. However, the fly in the ointment for North will be Del City. North is tied with Del City at 3-3 in division play. North needs Del City to lose to Mustang to clinch the final playoff spot. The good news is Mustang is favored to beat Del City. Keep your fingers crossed for our Edmond teams in the coming weeks.

Local Sports

For the UCO Brocho’s football team there is good news and bad news. The good news is the offense. The Broncho’s have an explosive high-scoring offenseive team filled with star athletes like Eathan Sharp (QB), Josh Birmingham (RB) and Tucker Holland (WR). There is a real chemistry there and when all three of these guys are on their game there is no stopping them. Birmingham alone has rushed for more than 1100 yards with no signs of slowing down. And Sharp has more than 1900 yards passing.

The bad news, however, is the Broncho’s defense. The defense has allowed more points to be scored against them than their own offense has scored. Nearly every game this season has been a high-scoring shootout with both sides of the ball racking up big numbers. The Broncho’s have lost more than their fair share of those games. Their current record stands at 2-7. If the Broncho’s defense matched their offense, they would be unstoppable. But, there’s always next year.

What is the Miss Oklahoma City pageant all about?

The Miss Oklahoma City pageant is a local pageant. When you win a local pageant you advance to the Miss Oklahoma pageant. If you win the Miss Oklahoma pageant you go on to the Miss America pageant. It’s all in the Miss America organization. The girls who win get to promote their personal platform, along with Children’s Miracle Network and we promote the communities we represent. For example, I represent Oklahoma City, so I will do things with Oklahoma City Rotary clubs and Race For The Cure and other organizations.

What is your platform?My personal platform is “In The Drivers

Seat” and I work very closely with “Alive At 25,” which is a new program taken on by the Oklahoma Safety Council. It’s a brand new program in Oklahoma that’s been very successful in South Carolina and Colorado. Between the ages of 16-24 is when young drivers are most likely to be in a car accident, because they are still new to driving and they are easily distracted. This program teaches young drivers how to not be distracted, pay better attention to the road and what to do if road conditions get bad. I really hope that with this title I can help this program take off.

Why did you choose your platform?I chose my platform, because I lost a

good friend of mine in a car accident when I was 19. She was on the Honey Bee squad with me. She wasn’t drunk, she was wearing her seat belt, she only took her eyes off the road for one second. That second of inattention caused her to be in a head-on-collision. That was the first time I ever had to deal with losing anyone and it was a really difficult process for me. It’s completely senseless. You can take precautions. You can stop eating in the car, or stop fiddling with the radio and you don’t have to be on

the cellphone in the car. You can stop these things from happening and you can save your life as well as others just by paying closer attention. I am completely inspired to hopefully stop senseless accidents like this from ever happening again

I’m sorry to hear that. Do you think there should be federal laws banning cellphone use while driving?

I think a federal law would make it easier for people who travel a lot. When each state, or county, or city has a different law concerning cellphone usage, it makes it very confusing for drivers. I think it would just be easier to have a blanket law.

How long have you been involved in pageants?

I’ve been doing pageants since I was a Senior in High School, and I am now a Senior in College, so I’ve been doing it for quite some time. But the best thing about it is I’ve completely paid for my entire College education. I am 100% debt-free, and that’s because of pageants—it has paid for my school.

Have you won any other titles in the past?

Yes, I was Miss UCO in 2008 and I was Miss River Walk in 2009.

What are you majoring in at UCO?I’m a public relations major, with a minor

in humanities.What do you want to do after College?I want to get my Masters in Student

Affairs. Essentially my masters will be in Education with an emphasis on Student Affairs.

How old are you?I’m 23.So you’re almost aged out of the Miss

America system.I know, this will be my last year. I’m

actually one of the oldest that will be competing for the title of Miss Oklahoma this year.

What is your next pageant?Miss Oklahoma, in June. Very excited.What are some of your hobbies and

what do you do in your spare time?I love to read. I’m an avid reader—I

don’t go anywhere without a book. I love to spend time with my friends and family. My family is very important to me. I work at Gaillardia Country Club—I run the beverage cart on the golf course—that’s a lot of fun. I met Bob Stoops doing that. That was pretty cool.

Tell us something about you that no one knows.

I’m 23 years old and I still sleep with my Teddy Bear. His name is Teddy Edwards—real original, right? He goes with me

everywhere. He goes to every pageant with me. It’s kind of embarrassing, but it’s true. [laughing] I also do not know how to ride a bike.

How is it that you’ve never learned how to ride a bike?

I don’t know.Do you roller-skate?I tried that once.Ice-skating?No, I’d fall.Skateboarding?Ooo, noSkydiving?I would love to try skydiving. I want to

try that so bad. I want to learn.Seriously, you don’t know how to ride

a bike?I was really active in dance when I was

a kid. In fact, in my senior year in High School I was dancing 20 plus hours a week. That was just class time and didn’t include rehearsals. So I was just really active with dance. That was my passion at the time. In College I really wish I knew how to ride a bike, because that would make things so much easier. It really would.

What is your talent in the pageants?I dance, lyrical or contemporary—

it’s based more on the emotion and the movement than it is the technique. I’m really excited, we’re doing a new dance for state. I won Miss Oklahoma City with a dance to Celiene Dion’s “Taking Chances,” which I completely loved.

Who are some of the people who have helped you along the way?

Oh my gosh, there are so many people. First off, my family. My Mom and I started this journey and we had no idea what we were doing. I look back at the pictures, and stuff like that and I’m going, ‘Wow, we had no clue!’ We were running around like chickens with our heads cut off and we had no idea what we were doing. Just to see how much I’ve grown and our relationship has grown through this is such a blessing. We are so much closer.

Every pageant I’ve ever done the director has been so supportive and helpful to me. The directors don’t just pick one girl that want to see succeed—they want to see all the girls succeed. That’s what’s so wonderful about the organization—we’re a family. Everyone wants to help everyone. That’s why Oklahoma has such a strong Miss America organization. We’re one of the top three states in the nation. We’ve had six Miss America’s and now we have Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. You just can’t beat that track record.
