As this month’s cover shows, Spring 2014 is

underway and this amazing explosion of color is

happening now at Hafer Park! After the harsh winter

we had, all of the color around town is welcome.

Since last issue, events have been planned and we

can’t wait to bring you coverage! The Libertyfest events

are firming up as well as the Edmond Arts Festival.

In 2010, I wrote an online column wishing out loud

that the board of the Arts Festival would invite more

artists from around Oklahoma. Last year, the event was

amazing and I couldn’t stop but linger at every booth.

Every single booth was an artist from somewhere in

Oklahoma and it made me so proud that Edmond is

showcasing all that is artistic in our state! You can visit

this awesome event in Downtown Edmond from May

3-5 and bring all your friends and family for some fun!

This month we covered the 14th Annual APPA

Lineman’s Rodeo at Mitch Park and it was really

unique. Every year this national event is held in a

different city so we all got a glimpse into a really cool

competition. And for those who asked, the poles at

Mitch Park are only temporary.

In My Home, we offer a fix every one with a

whirlpool tub will appreciate for cleaning out your jets,

in Field Trip we went to the Oklahoma City Zoo, and

as we have for the last 4 years, we bring you colors of

Spring at Hafer Park!

Next month, we’ll unveil our first winners of the

2014 EA Readers Choice Polls. There were over 1,924

votes and we had one tie. Thanks to all of you who

nominated your favorites an then voted for, shared and

supported your favorite local Edmond & Edmond area

businesses. We can’t wait to bring you more about all

22 winners.

And lastly, as we do every month, we shared some

of the Instagram photos we took around Edmond in

March, and we hope you enjoy them. We’ll also be

restarting our calendar in the May issue due out the first

week of May, so keep your eye out for area events.

Thanks again for taking the time each issue to pick

up Edmond Active Magazine, visit online, participating

in our first ever Edmond’s Choice ballots and engaging

with us at Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You

inspire me daily, and I’m really looking forward to

Summer 2014!

Thanks for reading and I’ll see you Around Edmond!

Birch Box Finds

Eyeko Mascara

The mascara itself was not bad and lasted for about 7 hours, however this unique brush made every angle of application smooth, effortless, and without spidering or clumping.

This little brush made the annual subscription worth it completely. $19 at www.Birchbox.com for a full size

mascara tube.

Birch Box Finds

Ruffian Nail Lacquer

In comparison to more affordable drug store nail polish, this particular brand did not stand up in the coverage department nor in staying power. Was a nice addition to the Birch box as a pop of color, but I wouldn’t buy the full size for $10.

If you were wondering what all those power pole were doing in the soccer fields of

Mitch Park, well, wonder no more. They were erected for the 14th Annual National

Lineworkers Rodeo.

According to the APPA website, The Lineworkers Rodeo was “Established in 2001 by

the American Public Power Association (APPA), the Public Power Lineworkers Rodeo

is where public power lineworkers come together from all over the United States and

some U.S. territories to demonstrate their skill and knowledge in the craft of linework.

At the Rodeo, journeyman and apprentice lineworkers can compete for professional

recognition, attend training courses and practice essential skills in a safe environment.

Furthermore, attendees will have a unique opportunity to connect with and learn from

the nationwide community of lineworker professionals.”

You really have to hand it to these guys, especially our Lineworkers at Edmond

Electric. They are the ones risking their lives during snow and ice storms to turn our

power back on. The are the first responders in getting things back to normal when

tornado’s take out our powerlines. Their job isn’t easy and it’s quite dangerous. As

witnessed at the National Lineworkers Rodeo, these professionals are very skilled at

what they do.

How To Safely and Effectively Clean Your Jetted Bathtub Jets

This is a thing for anyone with a jetted

bathtub. Rich, poor, small or large,

everyone who owns a home or rents with

one of these amazing appliances has had

the issue of little black flecks, and even

if they are clean freaks. I went without

running my jets (or cleaning them) for

the last 6 months, and after our home

inspection last week, it is apparent that is

not a great idea.

I got my advice on cleaning them 12

years ago from Kohler.com. It works every

time, as my jets were laden with mildew

once run, but after cleaning them with the

items listed below, the water now runs

clearly through the jets of my whirlpool

tub. And it’s entirely possible I have the

cleanest tub in all of North America!

Use Cascade dishwasher detergent

with 20 oz of liquid chlorine bleach, pour

directly into the intake of the whirlpool

with the tub full of hot water 2 inches

above the jets and run the jets for 15 mins.

to an hour. Then drain and rinse the tub and

rinse the system with cold water running

the jets for another 10 mins. Depending on

the severity of the mildew you are facing,

you may have to repeat several times.
