Monday Reading : Read for 20 minutes. Readers can read fiction books many times. One way
they can reread the book is by changing their voice to sound like the characters. They think, “How is my character feeling? How would their voice sound?” Then they reread the page making their voice sound like how the character feels.
Writing: Writers write Opinion pieces to convince others of their ideas. Tonight, think about something you think is the best (i.e. movies, toys, places, restaurants, etc.) Think of your idea and complete your cover page and your introduction/opinion page.
Math : Worksheet.
Tuesday Reading : Read for 20 minutes. Readers stop every few pages and think about how their
character feels and why they feel that way. Tonight, tell an adult about how your character feels and why they feel that way. Show them in your book!
Writing : Writers of opinion pieces think about the reasons why they think something is the best. Tonight, write 2 reasons.
Word Study : Worksheet Math : Worksheet. Complete the daily math review
on the next page.
Wednesday
Homework is required every night. Please check your child’s Take Home folder everyday and sign your child’s homework, Reading Log, and behavior note (when necessary). Book Baggies must be returned on your child’s assigned day in order for them to “shop” for new books.
Reading : Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. Readers use all their word detective skills to help them solve tricky words. Remember to check the picture; look for parts you know, and think about what word would make sense in the sentence (look at the chart in your Reading Log).
Writers of opinion pieces can think and write about a third reason they think something is the best to try to convince others of their idea. Tonight, write your 3rd reason.

Thursday Reading : Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. Readers do something at the
end of their book. Readers can reread the book or retell the book by saying what happened in the beginning, middle and end. Make sure you tell about what the character did and how they felt.
Writing : Writers of opinion pieces write a conclusion/ending page to remind their readers about what they think is the best and why.
Math : Worksheet. Complete the daily math review on the next page.

Friday Reading : Read for 20 minutes. Fill out your reading log. Reading packet.
Writing : Writers of opinion pieces edit their work by rereading it to make sure what they wrote makes sense. If it doesn’t, they go back and fix it. Writers also go back to make sure their sentences start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark.
