CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE

A. Murali MukundChairmanJubilee Hills Public School

Going by the recent trends and reforms, India can become the third largest economy by 2030 and also have the chances of attaining the economic superpower status if it can develop a system of good governance coupled with effective administration.

India’s inherent strengths, are its relatively young population, large domestic market and strong information and communications technology industry, which certainly puts it on a higher pedestal. Every year, India gives the world maximum number of Engineers and Doctors. There are huge number of people in India with huge professional knowledge in almost all the sectors, who can deliver much better results if they can collaborate and act.

India is also rapidly developing in terms of Education by introducing new methods of teaching. India, more than any country, has vast potential to be a hub for Education. I have seen Indian Teachers in action with fantastic skills and expertise doing a better job than their counterparts across the world.

A massive investment in education is the only best medicine that we must propose for the problems of illiteracy, over population, poverty, ineffective judicial system, pathetic politics and religious intolerance prevailing in our country.

We at JHPS believe in the strength of education and strive to prepare students who can make the future of India bright in all aspects.

A bright future

for India

The Confederation of Indian Industry – Asia Foundation has donated high standard books to our

School Library. They were a total of 122 books, which included books on Literature, History and Science. JHPS is thankful to Ms. Sowjanya, parent of Master Sri. Saharsh of Class I-B, who has coordinated with CII in this regard.

AN INITIATIVE TO SPREAD ‘N SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE THROUGH BOOKS

The CBSE in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource

Development, Ministry of Urban Development and GIZ has introduced the `National School Sanitation Initiative’. The aim is to inculcate good

sanitation habits among the school children in order to inspire, acquaint and celebrate excellence towards School Sanitation at the National Level.

School Sanitation Ratings have

been instituted with the purpose of recognizing those schools who are taking signifi cant steps towards effective sanitation and improving service delivery leading to the desired behavioral and attitudinal changes towards hygiene & sanitation.

520 CBSE schools across the country had applied for the Board’s National School Sanitation Initiative. Out of 80 CBSE schools from Hyderabad, only three had applied for the ratings. It is an honour that from Hyderabad, only our school has won the ‘Yellow Rating’ indicating a fair level of sanitation with room for improvement.

Vanamahotsav, the festival of trees was celebrated in the school on July 13, to make the environment healthy.

The main objective of celebrating ‘tree plantation week’ was to focus people’s attention on the national importance of planting trees and to make them tree-conscious, thus paving the way towards a greener India.Ms.M.Varalakshmi welcomed the Guest, Ms. Satya Aruna, an environmentalist., Sri A. Murali Mukund, Chairman and members of the Managing Committee.

The guest, Ms. Satya Aruna in her speech appealed to all the people to be conscious of the serious threat to mankind i.e. Global Climate Change, and take up the policy of `one plant for each individual’ plantation work seriously. In future, the focus should be to conserve and expand the forest. In her speech, she also spoke about how trees take care of us just like a mother does, by cuddling, nurturing and cradling us and putting up with our mischief.

A variety of cultural programmes which conveyed the message that Vanamahotsav celebrations remind us of our duties and commitment towards trees were put up by the students. This was followed by the thought provoking play enacted by the students. The necessity to save tree was voiced out by the nightingales of class XI & XII, singing their feelings for the trees. Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrated to commemorate the everlasting bond between brothers and sisters. It teaches us the values and charms of relationships.

The day symbolizes the love and care of a brother for his sister. It is a tradition that sisters tie Rakhi (sacred thread) on the wrist of their brothers and in turn they promise to protect them always.

The students of our school celebrated ‘Rakhi Festival’ in the school premises with great enthusiasm. In the special assembly organised for this occasion, students spoke about the signifi cance of Raksha Bandan. A variety of cultural programmes commemorating the everlasting bond between brothers and sisters were presented by the students. A festive atmosphere prevailed in the school premises. The Principal, Ms. M. Varalakshmi wished everyone on this auspicious occasion.

Rakhi is the festival of bonding and caring. This feeling was shared with the offi cials of the Police Dept., Fire Station, Electricity Department, etc. as they are the ones who are always on their toes to help us see a bright day. So, as a gesture of appreciation for their yeomen service, the students of classes IX and X visited the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation , HMWSB , Fire Station, Jubilee Hills Police Station, The APSEB, Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills Traffi c Police Stations. They tied rakhis and distributed sweets to the members of these organizations.

We wish this feeling of togetherness brings in harmony all around.

Students of JHPS put in a lot of effort to make this day memorable for the teachers. The students of class V to XII put up an entertaining show to express their

love for the teachers. The dazzling dances by the students had kept the teachers thrilled throughout the programme and the comedy shows managed to make it hard for the teachers to stifl e their laughter. Teachers actively took part and had fun playing games organised by the students.

Prizes were given to the teachers and helping staff for the games played on the previous day. The students were indeed successful in making it a memorable day for their teachers.

Aworkshop was conducted on ‘Value Education’ for the students of class VIII in the school premises. The

resource person was Mr. Jayashankar Krishna Murthy.

The workshop was conducted in four sessions. The fi rst session focused on time management and implementation of discipline. The programme emphasized on logical thinking, creativity and originality in the implementation of the three C’s – concentration, consistency and co-operative endeavour, and also on forgiveness, humility and self control which are some of the qualities to be possessed by a good human being.

The second session emphasized on avoidance of ego, over -confi dence and complexity. The children need to build self confi dence and self esteem, Implementation of self control at an elementary level. Emotional balance must be maintained in pleasant and unpleasant experiences, aspiration of higher goals must be done with the responsibility of failure. They also emphasized that one must be free from all attachments towards needs of the time that is to be skillful in work along with regularity. Purity of mind and heart is the only doorway to success and positivity in life.

In the third session the students were educated on how to prepare for meeting challenges in life which is important by means of identifying Swadharma (swa – own, dharma-nature). The following points are to be followed.

• Do what you love, love what you do.

• Invest time in Swadharma to be successful and happy in life.

• Prioritize studies and balance them with extracurricular activities.

• Important to overcome peer pressure, parents pressure and understand one’s capability and limitations.

• Be consistent in one’s plan of action.

• Maintain good health and channelize emotions.

• Leave behind envy, greed and anger.

• Prepare self to meet failure in life, don’t be result oriented, and create a balance between success and failure.

• Motto – Strive and Struggle, Not to Succeed.

In the fourth session the students understood that

intellect is the faculty to reason, to think, to discriminate and to decide. It’s the capacity to inquire, probe and to question. A human being alone possesses the faculty of questioning. “Liberal education in itself is simply the cultivation of the intellect as such and its object is nothing more or less than intellectual excellence.” as said by Henry Cardinal Newman. Concentration is intellect focusing the mind in the present. Consistency is intellectual channelizing physical actions towards the chosen ideals. Co – operative endeavor means intelligence, maintaining a spirit of co-operation and also a sense of belonging on the whole. The students were also taught the best time management technique which is self management and which is attainted through balancing the equation between work and time. Therefore, time management means work management and work management means self management. The actual technique lies in planning and programming and designing a plan of action to attain your goal.

to update themselves and JHSDC is

the right platform to hone their skills.

She thanked the Management for their

constant support and encouragement.

The Chairman Mr. A. Murali

Mukund expressed that`Vidya Darpan’

It’s hard to overcome the fear of speaking freely for what you believe. But speaking your mind is a skill that is used in many areas of life. We, the journalists, had an opportunity to capture the feelings of young minds on different topics for different levels.

Somewhat fun; homework’s are also very good. But when there’s too much of it, I don’t get spare time for other work. It’s fun and also helpful when there’s not much to do.

Homework is fun for me and I like doing it. Though doing lots of it is a burden, it is helpful as we don’t need to study more and also it reduces burden in future.

Stop cutting trees. If there are no trees, there’s no rainfall. No rainfall means no water and fi no water there’s no chance of survival. Get to work at least for OUR survival.

Nidhi, VI B

We are spoiling our environment by deforestation and other bad practices. We are being very careless about nature. We are not thinking about our future generation and being selfi sh. We are wasting our resources and in turn putting our future in danger.

Nitin, VIII C

People cut trees, make paper out of it and write DO NOT CUT TREES. How foolish! One must know the value of natural resources. Well, but now I feel we’ve started using them wisely for future betterment and if this continues the world might be a better place to live in.

Shehzor, VI A

We have spoilt every element of nature. Now for our future generation will be left out with nothing and will to go back to the old age. Sad that we are depriving them of the luxury we have.

Deeksha, VII A

We have cut trees and killed animals for our basic necessities. Being a nature lover I feel pity that my future generation may not get to see the vanishing beauty.

Time has changed, society has changed, and the mind set of people has changed. The values of the previous generations were well-suited for that time but now as we have moved on, their values are being compromised. Values are not meant to be compromised with. Their values need not be changed, just edited to match up with the time.

Archiki, IX E

I feel technology has jeopardized the every day family talk we used to have earlier. But in today’s generation we have academic stress and obsession with technology. If students take their parents opinion in different stages of life, they would be delighted. I would be far happier to spend time with my family and intensify our bonding.

Pushpanjali, X A

There is an absolute need of interaction between the elders and the younger generation. Cultural meetings should include both the generations, they should debate and sort out things. Here’s all the best for days to come for all the generations for a happy tomorrow by understanding each other.

Khaliq Bilal Taha, XI A

In the previous days values were referred to as “golden values”. But the people of this generation do not prefer go by them. People now breed over their so called values called corruption. But now I feel people have started to recognise their mistakes.

Allen Thomas, IX C

We are in such a society where the present generation and the previous generations have a lot of traditional and cultural gap. Even though it was a problem initially, nowadays people are able to go with the ideologies of their elders.

Shivani, XII A

Compatibility is something which comes naturally. So obviously there are restrictions and questions on what we do. But if we talk to each other and understand each other, everything will be fi ne.

COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN THE

Earlier people would respect their elders and traditions. Due to infl uence of western ideas people are forgetting their ideologies. But there are a few people who still follow the culture. I still feel there is some compatibility between the previous and the present generation.

Keshav Agarwal, XI A

I actually think that there is some sort of compatibility between me and my elders in my family. They try to cope with me and understand my feelings. And when they don’t, I know that they’re doing it for good.

T he foundation of independence laid one hundred and fi fty years

ago in 1857, got success after one hundred long years of struggle. A new democratic country took over the attention of the world with its principles of peace and non-violence. India became a sovereign independent state on 15th August 1947; we got our independence from the colonial rule of British. After 65 years of Indian independence we take stock of present day India. Each Independence Day is an occasion to call to mind the freedom struggle, remember our martyrs and reminisce the birth of a free India. It is an opportunity to take stock of the present. Has our independence translated and cascaded down to the people of India?

India, the world’s largest democracy, with its principles of non violence and peaceful coexistence and a constitution providing for the people,

by the people and to the people, as second largest populated country stands tall among the nations of the world.

The state being a major investor with a large public sector, high import duties, strict government controls, protectionism, import substitution leading to massive ineffi ciencies and widespread corruption.

Following these strong economic reforms, and a strong focus on developing national infrastructure such as the Golden Quadrilateral project ,airports and sea ports the country’s economic growth progressed at a rapid pace with very high rates of growth and large increases in the incomes of people.

India has recorded a growth of over 200 times in per capita income in a period from 1947 (Rs 249.6) to 2011.

Let us look at our achievements in the major sectors of Indian economy.

AGRICULTURE

Since independence, India has made immense progress towards food security. Indian population has tripled, but food-grain production more than quadrupled: there has thus been substantial increase in available food-grain per capita.

Prior to the mid-1960s India relied on imports and food aid to meet domestic requirements. However, two years of severe drought in 1965 and 1966 convinced India to reform its agricultural policy, India adopted signifi cant policy reforms focused on the goal of food grain self-suffi ciency. This ushered in India’s Green Revolution. India’s total food grain production soared. Such rapid growths in farm productivity enabled India to become self-suffi cient by the 1970s.

India’s agricultural economy is undergoing structural changes. Between 1970 and 2011, the GDP share of agriculture has fallen from 43 to 16 percent. This isn’t because of reduced importance of agriculture, or a consequence of agricultural policy. This is largely because of the rapid economic growth in services, industrial output, and non-agricultural sectors in India between 2000 to 2010.

INDUSTRY

Major industries include telecommunications, textiles, chemicals, food processing, steel, transportation equipment, cement, mining, petroleum, machinery, software and pharmaceuticals.

The industrial sector contributes 28.6% of India’s GDP and employs 14% of total workforce.

Industry thus has developed to a large extent in the past 66 years, but still there is room for more.

ENERGY AND POWER

India meets most of its domestic energy demand through its 106 billion tonnes of coal reserves. India is also rich in certain renewable sources of energy with signifi cant future potential such as solar, wind and biofuels. India is expected to be one of the leading producers of energy by 2025.

INFRASTRUCTURE In the past, development of infrastructure was completely in the hands of the public sector and was plagued by slow progress, poor quality

and ineffi ciency. India’s low spending on power, construction, transportation, telecommunications and real estate, at $31 billion or 6% of GDP in 2002 had prevented India from sustaining higher growth rates.

India after independence showed substantial improvements in all areas of infrastructure, focusing both in rural and urban areas, but still, Indian infrastructure lacks quality.

RAILWAYS

India has the world’s third largest road network. Its route length extends 62,458 kilometers. The railroads of India are the fourth most heavily used system in the world, which suggests the large investment made in rail transportation. In the mid-1990s, the railroad system employed 1.7 million people and carried around 66 percent of India’s goods traffi c and 40 percent of passenger traffi c.

ROAD SYSTEM

India’s road building achievements represent an impressive expansion from 400,000 kilometers of roads of all kinds to nearly 2 million kilometers of roads highways, just under 20,000 kilometers in total length, are rated as national highways, but they carry about 40 percent of the road traffi c. However more than 25 percent of villages. Fifty-three till have no road link, and about 60 percent have no all-weather road link.

PORTS & MARITIME TRANSPORTATION

India has eleven major seaports; In addition, there are some 139 minor working ports along the two coasts and on offshore islands.

CIVIL AVIATION In the mid-1990s, India had 288 usable

airports. Of these, 208 had permanent-surface runways and two had runways of more than 3,659 meters, fi fty-nine had runways of between 2,400 and 3,659 meters, and ninety-two had runways between 1,200 and 2,439 meters.

DAMS

In the year 1947, there were around 300 large dams throughout the country and the number gradually increased by the year 2000, when it reached to almost 4000. India holds a strong position in the list of dam building countries, after US and China. Primarily some of the dams in India were constructed for the prevention of fl oods, supplying water for irrigation and generation of electricity. Dam construction is considered as one of the greatest investments in the fi eld of irrigation.

Owing to the construction of dams in India, the country’s food grain production increased rapidly over the past few decades.

EMPLOYMENT

Agriculture is the predominant occupation in Rural India, accounting for about 52% of employment. The service sector makes up a further 34%, and industrial sector around 14%. The unemployment rate for 2010–11, according to the Labour Bureau, was 9.8% nationwide.

HEALTH

Post-independence India’s most noteworthy achievement, in the public health arena, has been the decrease in death rates (mortality). In 1951 the at-birth life expectancy was around 37years which increased to nearly 65 years by 2011. On disease-fronts where signifi cant results have been achieved include malnutrition, leprosy, cholera, malaria, tuberculosis (TB), and HIV.

The biggest challenge for India is the dual fi ght of combating basic health concerns such as malnutrition, low immunization rates, hygiene, sanitation, and infectious diseases. On the other hand, environmental pollution and lifestyle choices such as alcohol consumption, smoking have posed a great threat to citizens’ health.

EDUCATION

India has made huge progress in terms of increasing primary education attendance rate and expanding literacy to approximately three-fourth of the population. India’s literacy rate had grown from 52.2% in 1991 to 74.04% in 2011.

CONCLUSION Considering the large population, diverse religions, cultures, freedom of speech, press and the natural disasters like earthquakes, cyclones, tsunami and terrorist attacks our country faced, the overall developments have been signifi cant.

India is often seen by most economists as a rising economic superpower and is believed to play a major role in the global economy in the 21st century.

Based on the strong foundations we have laid towards economic freedom in meeting peoples aspirations, the educated youth of the country should work hard as a citizen of this country to make India a truly developed and welfare state.

The Jubilee Hills Teacher Training Center conducted a 2 hour workshop on 21st July, 2012 on the ‘‘Establishment of Teacher-

Student Relationship’’ for pre-primary and primary school teachers. The resource person, Mr. B. Raja Shekhar, from the School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad, spoke about the evolvement of the teacher-student relationship and how to motivate the students. The session ended with a question-answer session after which the resource person concluded that it is of high importance to establish a positive student-teacher relationship which will pave way for a better learning process and increased levels of understanding of each student. He also advised teachers to value the voice of students and never ignore it completely.A workshop on ‘Reinforcing Appropriate Behaviour’ by Dr. Meera Padhy was held for the teachers of middle and senior school on 22nd August, 2012. This was conducted with the objective to

identify, respond and control misbehaviour among the students and to reinforce appropriate behaviour among the students.

TRAINING TO COMMUNICATE

WELL BYThe training session by IGNIS CAREERS was initiated and

sponsored by the management of JHPS to enhance and empower 35 selected students of classes VIII, IX & X to improve their communication skills.

The programme commenced in April with an icebreaking session in which each had to greet and introduce himself with certain body movement and the rest would reciprocate with the same body language. After this each of them had a one to one interaction with Mr. Renis and Ms. Rashmi.

The movie clippings shown by the resource persons added not only fun to the learning session, but also helped them know how a word could have different connotations in different situations and how the use of inappropriate verb/ word forms in a sentence would complicate a simple speech.

Public Speaking exercises were indeed entertaining as well as interesting. They were corrected by the trainer for their Body language, Voice Modulation, Pronunciation, Intonation, Pitch and Pace. The training session helped the students to shed their inhibitions. The enthusiastic manner in which the lessons were conducted showed that the students were now more confi dent and motivated to do their best. During the oral feedback the students expressed their gratitude to the management for having organized such a workshop which helped them to come out of their own prejudices and convictions about themselves and break the wall of doubt they had about themselves.

Imagine that moment when you stand on a single ground along with one hundred thousand students,

eyes shining with pride as you salute the national fl ag and patriotism fl owing through your heart as you sing the National Anthem. This is what we experienced on 30th August 2012 with more than one hundred thousand students at NTR stadium, Hyderabad. The Janaganamana Program started off at 8:30 AM, with students of various schools of Hyderabad fi lling the stadium slowly. On the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, the show hit off with cultural performances by various schools. The other chief guests were Mr. Narasimhan E.S.L, Governor of A.P and Mr. K. Chiranjeevi. Our students showed a lot of enthusiasm and waved National Flags throughout the show. The fl ag was hoisted and all the distinguished guests spoke about respecting the National Anthem. All the students dispersed with a feeling of patriotism and pride towards the Nation.

Our National Pledge was written by Shri. Pydimarri Venkata Subba Rao in the year

1962. He was born in a village called Anaparthy in Nalgonda Dist. of Andhra

Pradesh. He was a polyglot, a naturopathy doctor and a bureaucrat who wrote

several books in Telugu. In 1964, the Govt. of A.P. issued an order stating that this

pledge should be recited in the schools every day. This pledge was also translated

into seven different languages by the Govt. of India. Many people are unaware that this pledge was written by him. The students were enlightened about him on this Diamond Jubilee year celebtration.

India is my country and all Indians are my brothers and sisters.

I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage.

I shall always strive to be worthy of it.

I shall give my parents, teachers and all elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy.

To my country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well being and prosperity alone, lies my happiness.

Studying in JHPS for almost a month for today was indeed in Bryan Adam’s words “The best days of my life….” I

would not be exaggerating if I could just turn this one month into a “Roller Coaster Ride”. It had all the elements of a ‘A’ grade Bollywood mare-right from studies, emotions, drama, dance, music and of course the comedy. There isn’t a single moment I can erase from my mind. Every moment in this “AWESOME” institution is so very special for me.

Passing out from my previous school after 10 years was a mixed bag of emotions. It was so hard for me to believe my run of a decade was complete. But I realized that I’ve got something completely exciting and new. This is a completely different environment I still remember 11th June,2012 when I walked through the gates of JHPS. It was really a distinctive feeling as I’ve come to an “Alien Land”. I’ve entered a very new school, it was not the fi rst time, I had the habit of visiting many schools as of the venues of Inter-School

competitions. But this comparably a new high…

This school is not only a building, a play ground or classroom it is not merely a place where we come to learn about people, but about ourselves in the process!!

I enjoyed participating in everything and anything, just to try myself out……… I can never thank my friends and teachers enough, for teaching me and helping me fi nd my feet!!

I have spent the best time of my life till date in the school. And I can never thank everyone enough, for making each moment here so special for me. I’ve had my share of ups and downs and throughout all that my teachers and friends have stood by me, whether its success or failure.

Given a chance, I would love to go back in time and have all the fun again. But as, we all know it’s not possible as of now. All I can do is move on to have much more fun, excitement, enjoyment, and of course to day’s I had fi lled with knowledge. But as rightly said, “Home is where the heart is”. Here’s all the very best to the school for years to come and I thank everyone who made, are making and surely make my time so special.

Thank you for just about Everything….

“BIOLIGHTS REPLACING STREET LIGHTS” ,was the theme of the project selected by our esteemed school ,J.H.P.S., under the sub theme ‘ENERGY RESOURCES AND CONSERVATION’. Guided by our teacher Mrs. Mandira Dixit, me and my partner Manasa. K worked on this innovative project which could be the ideal solution for reducing the electric consumption rate in future. As the demand for electricity is growing, we had an urge to fi nd an alternative; a biological solution which will be economically feasible, culturally acceptable as well as technologically accessible. We were inspired by the mind boggling research done by Osamu Shimomura, who won the noble prize 2008 for isolating the green fl uorescent protein.

Our expedition to Chennai was nifty. We positioned our model on Sunday, 12th August to avoid last minute hiccup. We were one among the 357 participant schools from the southern region- A.P, Chennai, Kerala and Karnataka. We were vibrant and exuberant to present our notion to all the visitors on both the days. We saw and even took down

various other concepts that were impressive, so that we could implement them during our science exhibition. On the day of judgment we had our fi ngers crossed but in vain all our hopes were turned down. Out of ‘93 models’ in our category, the host school ‘PSBB’ and its sister concerns bowled over the trophy. Out of 357 exhibits, only 15 models from the ‘6 categories’, which were stretched across 3 fl oors were selected for the National Level.

The awards were given to schools that presented working models with proven data that could be readily implemented, without further researches. Live models based on existing researches also bagged the trophies.

On July 4th, 2012, CERN announced the discovery of a new subatomic particle that is consistent with the

Higgs Boson - a particle that has been searched for since the 1970’s. Whether it is the Higgs Boson or something that closely resembles it, a new particle is a historic discovery. As theories go, the standard model has been very effective, aside from its failure to fi t in gravity. Armed with it, physicists have predicted the existence of certain particles years before they were verifi ed empirically. Unfortunately, the model still has another missing piece-The Higgs Boson. If the particle discovered is the Higgs Boson, then the scientists can predict the formation of the universe.

• Turn Off your screen saver-

Keeping your screen active wastes energy. Instead of the screen saver, apply the option of Shutting Off Screen after fi ve minutes of being unused, so no energy will be wasted on it while it isn’t being used.

• Choose a computer wallpaper with much black in it-

Black doesn’t demand pixels to be activated- Which means there’s less energy used for this aim. Seriously, you don’t practically NEED for a wallpaper.

• Use only products that were NOT examined on animals.

• Reduce the amount of Meat and leather you buy. The Meat/Leather industry causes great pollution, on the top of being terribly wasteful. And of course, you’ll reduce animals tormenting.

• Have you got one of those re-usable canvas bags? Good. Don’t get more of them. Producing them creates more pollution than producing plastic bags. This doesn’t mean you should use plastic bags- Just don’t get more bags than you actually need.

• Don’t leave chargers plugged on switches switched on. They use electricity even then.

• Don’t leave the T.V. on in the background. Even if you’re watching it but you’re not very interested in the program - consider if there is something that you’ll fi nd more enjoyable and also doesn’t use so much energy. Playing outdoors for example.

• Lowering settings such as brightness and contrast will reduce the energy you use.

• Remember that appliances on standby are still using energy. When you turn something off - really turn it off!

• Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water.

• Use a water fi lter to purify tap water instead of buying bottled water. Not only is bottled water expensive, but it generates large amounts of container waste.

• Wear clothes that don’t need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use

• Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible.

THIRTEEN STEPS TO BE A GREEN TEEN

Owners of a ski resort at Arizona, USA had come up with a plan to cover the hills on which the resort is located, with artifi cial snow- snow made of recycled poop water! Since the snow fall is very fl uctuant, the ski resort owners found an alternate way to have snow all round the year. This resort is now running, with thousands of visitors throughout the year.

First the water is bought from a recycle plant or what we say sewage treatment plant, then the water will be pumped into large fans which will turn it into a fi ne mist of water droplets that can freeze easily and become snow. This snow is then poured over the mountains which have proved to be amazing for summer skiers.

As all new innovations are welcomed with a resistance, all people felt that this would cite environmental and health concerns. Since this was a new innovation, scientists had yet not researched about the environmental and health impacts of using reclaimed water. Natives have shown strong opposition against “poop snow” but the ski resort is still super hit. This innovation is spreading slowly to parts of Europe and Russia in Asia. One day might come when we see Indian hill dominated by “sewage snow”!

Some call the poop snow “cultural genocide”, some call it “awesome”, while some say “I don’t care.” What do you say?

HOW BEAUTIFULTHE WORLD ISHow beautiful the world is,

How blue the sky is,How green the grass in the morning dew,

How musical the dove.

Eyes to see the colours bright,Ears for music of delight,

Nose to smell the fragrant rose,Skin to feel the breeze the blows.

How beautiful the world is,How blue the sky is,

God is there in all creation,Flowing forth in light and love.

The song of the stars resounds in the heavens,The song of the sun awakens the day,

The song of my heart is the sun in my soul,And i’ll listen and listen, to what it can say.

Hand I have for work and creating. With fi ngers skillfull to make and repair,

In my heart I can carry the sun,Shining with love for everyone.
