New appointment as Preliminary Notes Editor

It is a great pleasure for me to announce the appoint- ment of Professor Hubert Girault to the post of Editor of Preliminary Notes for the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry and to welcome him to this position.

Rapid publication of novel science is an important priority and the creation of a post of Editor dealing entirely with Preliminary Notes is designed to increase our effi- ciency in handling such rapid publication.

Hubert Girault is well known in the electrochemical community principally for his work on the electrochem- istry of liquid I liquid interfaces which he started with David Schiffrin in Southampton as a graduate student and then a post doctoral fellow. His years as a faculty member in Edinburgh University showed that he has a high ability for innovative research and its organisation. So that it was no surprise when he was invited to a chair in the l~cole Polytechnique F~d~rale de Lausanne which he now occu- pies.

I am confident that Hubert will make the best. use of modem technology in expediting the handling of Prelimi- nary Notes, while, at the same time exercising wise judge- ment in considering their content.
