Int. J. Pres. Ves. & Piping 32 (1988) 329 Editorial It is a special pleasure to devote this issue to a series of papers selected from the many which were presented at an important three day conference and exhibition on Pressure Vessel Technology arranged by the French Association of Pressure Vessel Engineers (Association Frangaise des Ing6nieurs en Appareils ~i Pression AFIAP) in Paris in October 1986. Most of the presentations were in French, and the full proceedings in French are published by AFIAP. However, there was an international character to part of the meeting, and it deserves to be more widely known. For that reason, as well as for their own merit, four papers have been selected and translated into English for this Journal; the four papers were among the leading papers in each of their respective conference sessions.
