Council 1 Columbus Council #1 - Newsletter Message from Senior Counselor – Tom Smith April/May/June/July 2016 Editor- Tom Smith Greetings, We are just a little over 3 months thru this busy 2016-2017 year that is upon us. The Ohio Grand Council convention was held in June at the Embassy Suites Hotel in north Columbus, as host GC David Van Order passed the gavel of Grand Counselor to Lee Ann Firestone. The Supreme UCT convention was held in July at Louisville, KY. with highlights shown in the next page. But one of the most important happenings was David Burt receiving his honors as Past International President that was presented to him by his wife Phyllis, for a wonderful 6 years of service he had given to UCT. Columbus Council #1 has many things going on from month to month and you all are welcomed to be part of the volunteer work we do. This year for the second year in a row we were awarded with the Gold Medal of Honor at the Supreme Convention. Thanks to all that helped us receive this certificate and a $750.00 check from the Supreme office and $250.00 from the Ohio Grand. Let’s work again this year to make it (3) three years in a row. We can do it. We all need to write at least one or more new UCT members to be part of Columbus Council #1. This will allow us reach a gain in membership which is one of the key items for the Medal of Honor. (Cont.) (Cont.) You all are invited on Thursday Aug. 11 th to come to the Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs for a fun time. We will have a reserved area for us where you can order dinner, enjoy the races, gamble at the Casino or just enjoy the friendship. We will start at 5:30 with a short meeting. If you plan on coming please send reservations to Susie Thompson by Aug. 5 th . You can call her at (740) 927-8478 or E-Mail her at [email protected]. During the month of October we have two exciting projects coming up and further into the newsletter you will see them listed. We invite all to come out and be part of our giving on Thursday Oct. 6 th at the Happy Hour at Bar 23, for the Mid- Ohio Foodbank. On Friday Oct. 14 th we will host our Grand Counselor dinner and honor GC Lee Ann Firestone and her husband Alan. We also look forward in seeing many other out of town guests. If interested please E-Mail Susie Thompson for application details at [email protected] or go on line at www.uct.org for other available memberships. ********************************************************************************************************* Highlights from Grand Convention held June 8-11, 2016 The Convention was held at the Embassy Suites in Columbus, Ohio hosted by GC- David Van Order and wife Mindy from M.J. Terapak #144. What a wonderful event that was appreciated by all and thanks goes out to this wonderful couple who on Wed. evening had a Hawaiian theme dinner with fun and great food. The Fraternalist of the Year award was presented to Homer Huprich – PGC and his wife Gerrie from Salem #590. Another very important happening was the Roses for Living Committee giving a rose to PSC O.C. Cooper Jr. and wife Jean who participated in this years convention. Lee Ann Firestone from Salem #590 was installed as Grand Counselor with the following elected officers from Col. #1. Tom Smith- Grand Junior Counselor, Jerry Thomas – Grand Treasurer, Ken Milliser- Grand Page and John Thompson - Grand Sentinel. Next years 2017 convention will be held June 7-10 in Youngstown Boardman at Holiday Inn. ************************************************************************************************************ Highlights from Supreme Convention held July 3-6, 2016
The Supreme Convention was held in Louisville at the Hyatt Regency hosted by President (Supreme Counselor) Tom Hoffman and wife Kathleen from the Texas Grand. What a wonderful convention of Fraternalisim and business conducted. Our own honorary member from Columbus #1 received his PIP (PSC) honor for serving 6 years as a Board of Governors line officer. Congratulations go out to David Burt and wife Phyllis. Those in attendance from Columbus #1: Jerry and Debbie Thomas, Norma Hummel, Tom and Linda Smith, John and Susie Thompson, Ken and Rita Milliser, Sharon Kossman, and Joe and Loretta Hoffman. Kenny Milliser was nominated for future consideration as a Board of Govenors officer. Next years Supreme Convention will be in Greenville, SC. at the Hyatt Regency July 3-6, 2017 with opening starting on Monday not Sunday.
