American School of Douala AP TESTING Edition 2014-2015 Issue 36 May 15 th , 2015 Many congratulations to our grade 11 and 12 students, who have just completed two weeks of Advanced Placement (AP) testing. AP courses are university-level approved courses, taught here at ASD, for which the students may receive university credit. Our students took AP exams in Economics, English Language, English Literature, Calculus, Biology, and U.S. History. TALKING DRUMS Accredited by Dear Parents, ASD’s annual Gala Dinner is tomorrow! Please join us at Akwa Palace, 7:30, for an elegant evening of “Glitz and Glamour” featuring fine food, drinks, a tombola with great prizes, and entertainment. There are a few tickets left in the school office; cost is 50,000 cfa per ticket. All next week, we will be celebrating Cameroon Week in recognition of our host country. Be sure to remind your child to wear the clothes made of ASD’s Cameroon week fabric on Monday and Friday. There will be several assemblies during the week, and on Friday at 1:00, we will have a special Cameroon week assembly to celebrate the projects, song, and dance our students have prepared during the week. This will be followed by a Cameroon food feast at 2:00; parents are kindly requested to send a dish of Cameroon food to school on Friday to share. Parents are invited to these events! May 2015 Dear Parents, It’s time to re-enroll for the 2015-2016 academic year. Next year, ASD will be welcoming Dr. Bernie Mitchell as its new Director; it promises to be an exciting year, full of potential. To reserve a place for your child(ren) next year, please fill out the re-enrollment form below and return to school by ASAP. You can also find it in the Talking Drums and in the school office. We are already at the wait-list stage for next year’s grade 6. If your child is currently in grade 5, it is urgent that you let us know as soon as possible about your re-enrollment for next year. We appreciate your taking the time to let us know of your plans for next year. Of course, we are aware that some of you will not know whether or not you’ll be here until later; please update us as soon as you know. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
