From the Office...
Welcome Back! Hoping all of our Edith Cavell families had a fun, enjoyable summer. The teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms and are ready to help your child succeed in his/her learning this school year. A Big Thank You to Mrs. Braund for doing an amazing job over the summer cleaning and preparing the school for the September start. The floors shine and the entire building looks amazing. This year, building on our theme of I Matter, we will focus on the idea of I Can, You Can, We Can. Later in the month, the organization Movement X will be at the school for 3 days. Each class will have the opportunity to partici-pate in a variety of activities focused on developing good self-regulation skills. Email: Please make sure to include your email on your child’s verification form. The school will be communicating by email this year to reduce our pa-per costs and be more environmentally friendly. For example, this will be the only paper copy of the Monthly Newsletter sent home. Each month you will receive the school’s newsletter by email. If you would prefer a paper copy of the newsletter, please let our secretary know. School Bell Times: The entry bell to start school will ring at 8:55am. Supervi-sion on the playground will begin at 8:40am. The dismissal bell to finish school will still ring at 3:15pm. Open House: The school Open House will be on Thursday, September 28 from 5-7pm. Please drop in to meet your child’s teacher. There will be a Book fair to purchase new books and Movement X will be here to show you some of the strategies your child learned about improving their Self-Regulation skills. As always, please do not hesitate to come on in and say hello, share your feed-back or offer suggestions. We welcome your thoughts and your active partici-pation in our school community! Looking forward to a great 2017-2018 school year.

mately 3 hours earlier than their regular time.
Students will be dismissed at 12:15 pm.

Dismissal & End of Day Arrangements
We would like to review how important it is to make end-of-day arrangements for our students well in advance. Students can become confused or upset if they are not fully aware of where
they are supposed to go/be at day’s end.
From time to time, we understand that last-minute arrangements must be made in case of emergency, but we ask that such events be communicated to the teacher via the student
agenda and the office before the event occurs.
When picking up your child at the end of the day, please meet them outside behind the
fence.
We thank you for your support with this matter.
A Few Reminders... The whereabouts and safety of your child is important to us. It is essential for us to know
when your child is absent from school. Please phone the school at 905-684-6545. If we are
not able to answer the phone, and for after school hours calls, please leave a message on
our answering machine. Messages are checked regularly throughout the day. Your coopera-
tion is greatly appreciated.
Being on time for school is an important habit to teach your child. We stress the need for
every student to be at school on time in order to not miss important lessons or information
being shared and it disrupts the class who have already begun their lesson learning. Learning
time starts promptly at 8:55am. Students who are late must report to the office to get a
late slip for their teacher.
Students who need to leave the school during school hours must be signed out by a parent or
guardian at the office. There is a binder in the office for Sign Out purposes. When you return
your child to school you must accompany them to the office to sign them back in.

Student Safety Reminders
1. School starts at 8:55 am and ends at 3:15 pm. Supervision for students starts at 8:40am.
Please do not send students to school before that time. 2. The upper parking lot will be blocked off at the end of the school day so our walkers can cross the driveway safely. You are welcome to park in the lower parking lot and along the street across from the school. The area directly in front of the school is posted as a no parking area and the parking enforcement will issue you a ticket. Please consider the safety of all students when you are driving on, off or around the property and SLOW DOWN.
3. The curved driveway is for the bus or drop off only. Do not park there or sit and wait for stu-dents there. Student safety is very important to us and you can assist by helping to enforce our safety proce-dures as part of the “Safe Welcome Program" (part of the Safe School Action Plan), the Ministry of Education introduced to sure student safety.
Visitor Sign-In
To ensure student safety, all parents and visitors must:
enter the school through the front door,
check in at the office to sign in by using "Visitor Sign In" book,
wear a visitor's badge during your visit with us
STUDENT MEDICATION & MEDICAL CONCERNS
Any prescribed medication that is to be administrated to students at school must have an
“Authorization of Administration of Oral/Topical Medication” form completed by a
physician and signed by parents/guardians. Forms are available at the office. All medi-
cations need to be in the original labeled containers. Please do not send any other medica-
tion including over the counter products in your child’s backpack. If your child requires any medication,
please send the medication to the office.
We cannot administer medication without an authorized form completed by a physician. A form
entitled "EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN" needs to be completed for highly allergic anaphylactic children
and asthmatic children. These forms are kept with the necessary medication in the office and the names
and photographs of affected students are compiled so that all staff are aware of our students' medical
concerns. Epi-pen training is provided to our staff by our school nurse from the Niagara Regional Health
Department.
Any medical conditions or concerns MUST be brought to the attention of the Office Administration staff.
If you have any questions please call the school office.

Parent Computer...
…. There is a computer for parent use in our front foyer. Please feel free to use this computer to check your email for school updates or to look at the school or Board website.
