It took place in the fall and included a celebration of the harvest. Sukkot, or Tabernacles as we know it, was a time to remember the 40 years of wandering when the nation lived in huts or tents or tabernacles. Remembering where they had come from and what they now enjoyed from God's hand. It was also a time to celebrate the Torah, (their scriptures) as the year long reading of the Torah came to an end and began again. I am extremely grateful for where we are, conscious of both the challenges we face and the blessings we enjoy. Together, relying on His mercy and grace, trusting and obeying His word, I believe that we will discover and enjoy all that God has for us as a family of faith in the new year. On the last day of this last great feast, John 7 records that Jesus spoke passionately to the people saying, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in me, from his inmost being will flow rivers of living water". May we end 2016 thirsty, yet coming to Jesus to drink. May we begin 2017 anticipating the rivers of living water that He has promised. Pastor Rob A CHALLENGE FOR 2017

January Birthdays

John 7 records Jesus going to Jerusalem for the last of seven great festivals that were given to the Jews to celebrate. DEACON OF THE MONTH

David Salter

Our deacon of the month for January is David Salter. David has quite a history with Edisto and EBBC. He moved here in the early 1980’s from Columbia, after spending many of his summers here. In 1983, David came ashore while wind-surfing because a volleyball game piqued his interest. While there, he was introduced to Tammy. They were married in 1985 by Ralph Warren here at EBBC. They have raised three children on Edisto and have three grandchildren and one granddog they are keeping while Cole & Caroline are serving with the Peace Corps (they’re coming home January 14

th!). David is an electrical contractor and

Tammy takes care of many of us at McConkeys. Additionally, David plays the guitar, sings with the choir and serves on the Personnel Committee.

NEW WORSHIP SERIES

The Book of Philippians has been called 'An Ode To Joy', because of it's repeated use of the word joy. Originally a letter written by Paul to believers worshipping together in the Roman city of Philippians, named after the father of Alexander the Great. Paul writes this letter from his prison cell in Rome and it is filled with remarkable and practical insights for living. Our six part Worship Series on the Book of Philippians will motivate us to live with Joy and thus Thrive, not merely survive. The impact of the times of worship around Paul's words will strengthen every part of our life in Christ from praying to witnessing to giving to obeying and a whole lot more. If one of your New Year’s Commit-ments is to move more deeply into the abundant life that Jesus calls us to live, then join us as we hear Paul's joy-filled words about how to "Thrive". The Thrive series begins January 22nd.
