“We do everything possible to maintain the community sta- bility associated with the fuel fulfillment. It can be ascertained that fuel stock in Bali is secure,” said Iin Febrian in Denpasar. According to Iin, the fuel stock in Bali had no constraints, as happened in some regions beyond Bali. Quota of the sub- sidized fuel for Bali in 2012 reached 767,038 kiloliters (KL) for Premium, while 224,155 KL for diesel fuel. The amount was predicted to suffice until the end of the year and even the realization could exceed about one percent. “Fuel quota in Bali experi- ences no reduction, so that it is secure until the end of 2012. However, the decline is vulner- able to happen because of enter- ing holiday season. We estimate the realization of subsidized fuel consumption until the end of 2012 exceeds one percent of the quota,” Iin said. Iin explained the subsidized fuel stock of Bali so far reached 28,500 KL of Premium and 25,000 KL of diesel fuel and would suffice up to 20 days. Meanwhile, the consumption of subsidized fuel in Bali averagely reached 2,500 KL of Premium per day and 750 KL of diesel fuel per day. Fresh from her intimate performance at an iHeartRadio concert for Hurricane Sandy first responders, Keys hit up NYC hot spot The Box, where she was joined by her husband, record producer Swizz Beats; her mom, Teresa Augello; and pals including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake (sans new wife Jessica Biel), Maxwell, designer Tommy Hilfiger, and

BFF Erika Rose. The star “looked amazing” in tight

black leather, a guest told Us Weekly -- and she felt amazing, too. “She was talking about how happy she was that the album got such good reviews and saying how she really wanted to ‘tap into her heart’ for this one,” the insider said, adding that the singer gave a speech

telling everyone how proud she was of the record.

At one point during the party -- which was co-hosted by Ciroc vodka and Qui tequila, and featured entertain-ment by DJ Cassidy and DJ Runna, among others -- Beyonce left the booth where she was sitting with Jay-Z and joined Keys on the dance floor, as Swizz Beats got on the mic with DJ Cassidy. “They played a lot of old-school hits and songs from the album,” the source told Us. “Everyone danced and celebrated.”

Alicia Keys Celebrates Album Release With Big, Star-Studded Bash

The weather in New York City may be cold, but Alicia Keys’ Nov. 27 record-release bash was anything but. The “Brand New Me” singer, 31, lived up to the title of her latest album, Girl on Fire, as she danced the night away at a star-studded party held in her honor Tuesday night.

THE Kardashian clan has a lot more money than most, but that can’t help them when it comes to dealing with the common family dilemma of how to get everyone in the same room at the same time. As Khloe Kardashian revealed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Wednesday, her brood has had some difficulty in the last few years finding a time when everyone can shoot the family photo for their annual Christmas card. Their solution? Photoshop, which will be used heavily on this year’s as-yet-unmade greeting.

“We pretend that we’re always together,” Kardashian confessed. “The power of cameras and Photoshop.” Khloe also revealed that she and hubby Lamar Odom were going to have their photo made for the card on Tuesday – the day her interview with DeGeneres was taped – and that images of Kendall and Scott would also be added digitally.

Despite their busy schedules, all the members of the Kardashian family do manage to spend quality time together a little later in the holiday season. “Every Christmas we’re always together,” Kardashian said. “Stepbrothers, sisters everything. All 10 kids and then everyone’s extended girlfriend, boyfriend, this, that....” Though DeGeneres joked that the guest list probably changed every year, she noted that recently the fam-ily’s significant others seemed to be sticking around a little longer. Kar-dashian agreed. “The older we get, the more we stick together. Who knew? I’m surprised Scott’s still around, but he’s here,” she added with a laugh.

Condition of the floor is also unkempt and filled with dust. More ironically, the photos of Gusti Ngurah Rai and his troops were left rusty. Meanwhile, the miniature of Ngurah Rai sculpture and his men look disheveled and dusty.

Damages to the General Head-quarters (MBO) monument of the People’s Struggle Council of the RI Lesser Sunda have long taken place. However, it has never been touched by a single improvement project. “This museum has started to badly damage since the past five years, where many roofs have fallen be-cause of rain,” said Ida Bagus Putu Madya, 63, a resident who lives next to the museum, Wednesday (Nov 28). More sadly, its wall also

Dormant, headquarters museum of Ngurah Rai almost collapsesTabanan (Bali Post)—

Commitment of Tabanan Regency to historical heritage is worth questioning. As evi-dence, the headquarters museum of Gusti Ngurah Rai at Munduk Malang, Dalang village, East Selemadeg, is in very poor condition. The roof has broken and almost collapses, even the door has been fragile and the key has vanished.

Amlapura (Bali Post)—Karangasem Hospital does not

have a radiologist after Handojo has retired. As a result, patients in Karangasem are confused because they must go to Denpasar to get X-ray service. It was revealed by a member of Commission D of the Karangasem House, Iluh Purnamin-ingsih, Wednesday (Nov 28).

She said to receive many com-plaints from families accompa-nying patients to Karangasem Hospital because they did not obtain complete services. “Many patients complained because they could not get X-ray service,” said Purnaminingsih. Even, two patients complained because they were directed to private practitio-ner when would like to have x-ray service offered at costly rate.

According to Purnaminingsih, in the hearing with Commission D involving the Head of Health Agen-

cy, the Director of Karangasem Hospital, Wayan Suardana, said that his party would immediately look for a radiologist to replace the previous one. Related to many complaints of patient, Wayan Suar-dana justified it. He recognized that after Handojo retired, the hospital no longer had a radiologist.

He said that a doctor of Karan-gasem Hospital, Antari, would have graduated from her educa-tion in January 2013. She was a doctor of civil servant in the Karangasem Hospital and fi-nanced to take health education through scholarship. “Later, after graduating she should fill in the vacancy of radiologist in the Karangasem Hospital,” he said.

According to the former Head of Selat Community Health Center, his party had looked for a radi-ologist to School of Medicine of Udayana University or outside who

would be willing to devote itself in Karangasem. The value of con-tract awarded was good enough namely IDR 7.5 million, not to mention the facilities such as a car and official residence. However, no one wanted to fill it. Even, he added that the retired radiologist, Handojo, had also been offered a contract, but he did not accept.

Related to the lack of radiologist, Suardana said there had been actu-ally a solution. Patients in need of radiologic diagnosis were offered and delivered to private clinic of Handojo because he had complete devices. Besides, they could also be ushered to undergo radiological service in Denpasar. For the fetal USG service was not a problem because there had been a gynecolo-gist, while the X-ray diagnosis for light fracture could also be carried out by nurse graduating from D3 or D4 education. Singaraja (Bali Post)—Buleleng Regency through the Cul-

ture and Tourism Agency takes another way to promote local tourism potential. Within two days, the agency held a screening of the film Rumah di Seribu Ombak (House on a Thousand Waves) at the hall of the Universitas Pendidi-kan Ganesha (Undiksha), Singaraja. The Head of the Buleleng Culture and Tourism Agency, Ketut Warkadea, ac-companied by Art Section Head, Wayan Sujana, in his office on Wednesday (Nov 28) said the film would be played on Saturday (Dec 1) and Sunday (Dec 2).

As scheduled, the film would be screened for two times. On the first day, the agency would invite the officials in the Buleleng Regency, leadership and legislators of the Buleleng House. After that, the screening on the follow-

ing day targeted the line ups of pupils, students, and general public. Before the screening, it would be filled with introductions to some actors getting involved in the film.

Introduction to the actors of the film was ascertained to be eagerly awaited because some actors were the natives to Buleleng such as Tutik Kusumawadini, a legislator, and a little actor who had enough talent. According to the Head of Culture and Tourism Agency, Warkadea, screening of the film was intended to promote the tourism in Buleleng.

Moreover, the film lasting for 105 minutes was shot at several tourist attrac-tions in Buleleng such as Lovina, Gitgit and elsewhere. In addition, the film also tells about cultural acculturation and genuine friendship despite coming from different religions and beliefs. (kmb)

To promote tourismCulture and Tourism Agency plays Rumah di Seribu Ombak film

starts to be mossy. Being unlocked, it is often used by children or wild dogs to play. IB Putu Madya added that such condition made the mu-seum look vile.

Besides, the telephone device installed is also out of order and rusty. As a matter of fact, this mu-seum is the forerunner of the troops of Gusti Ngurah Rai in the struggle to maintain the independence. The headquarters initiated by Gusti Ngurah Rai was built around 1946. Other than museum, there is also a struggle monument. Each year, the raising flag ceremony is held at the location to commemorate the struggle of Gusti Ngurah Rai.

Headman of Dalang, Wayan Sumiarta, justified the damage to

museum building. He explained it had long been broken. However, there was no attention from the Tabanan government. The building was actually owned by Tabanan Regency under supervision of the Social Welfare Agency. “We’ve submitted improvement proposal for a few times. But, it results nothing,” he said by telephone last Wednesday. So far, he said the maintenance was only carried out by village authorities with a mini-mal cost so the damage could not be addressed. Finally, in 2004 the local government could disburse an aid for the repair. However, it no longer continued.

Sumiarta added that a trail activ-ity was held by residents and local

veterans. Unfortunately, no single of-ficial of the Tabanan Regency wanted to join the trail. “It is a very important and historical museum. However, the concern

of government is very minimal,” he said. This officer expected the regency govern-ment could see in person the apprehensive condition of the museum. (kmb30)

Not only that, the MT Fastron vessel carrying oil supplies had anchored at the Manggis Terminal Depot, Karangasem Regency, Wednesday (Nov 28). It carried some 12,000 KL of Premium and 22,000 KL of diesel fuel.

“Arrival intensity of the fuel-conveying vessel is quite often, namely on average of two and three days. It is to maintain the fuel stability of the availability in Bali,” Iin said.

Iin said the fuel distribution to Bali Island so far was car-ried out through two entrances, namely depot at Manggis, Karangasem that did not only meet the needs in Bali but also the needs in West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara up to Timor Leste. Besides, it was also distributed through Pesanggaran Depot in Denpasar. The fuel would be further distributed by 67 tank trucks of Pertamina to 180 gas sta-tions across Bali.

“In Bali, the condition is conducive enough and no scarcity happens as in other regions. Bali is different where there are no long lines. It is our collective duty to maintain because Bali is a tourist destination. Hopefully, it will be secure until this year end,” Iin said. (kmb27)

Entrepreneurs to aware of alleged dumping chargesAntara

DENPASAR - The Trade Ministry has asked businessmen in Bali to always alert on the possi-bility of dumping charges by countries which became trading partners, following the competitive position of industry products from the island of gods. “Usually our products are competitive. The more competitive the more highlighted and prone to the accusations, “said the Director of Trade Safeguards, Ernawati S. Taufiq on Thursday.

Ideal minimum wage for Bali around IDR2.2 MillionAntara

DENPASAR - The National Front for Indonesian Work-ers Struggle (FNPBI), Bali branch, said the ideal regional minimum wage (UMP) for the tourist resort province was IDR2.2 million per month.

“The ideal UMP rate for Bali is equal to that of Jakarta which was fixed at IDR2.2 million per month,” FNPBI chairman for Bali Ikhsan Tantowi said here on Wednesday.

He expressed hope the re-gional minimum wage increase in Bali should not follow the way it was raised in the past where the increase was only at hundreds of rupiah range.

Ikhsan said that the hike which was too small could not balance the increase in the prices of daily necessities which continued to increase.

“We hope the governor and the related parties would be aware of this fact so that they would be able to fix an ideal amount of regional minimum wage level in accordance with decent living cost,” he said.

Ikhsan said there was other problem that needed to be given attention to, namely the fixing of minimum wages based on sectoral basis. So far, the minimum wages were fixed with a uniform rate while it should not be like that.

treated correctly, the negative accusation will impose a ban on exports to the accuser countries. It will make businessmen to di-vert their export market to other countries and begin again from zero. According to Ernawati, Bali had been accused of dumping on handicraft.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Department of Industry and Trade of Bali, I Gusti Made Raka, said

Bali’s export realization during the last five years (2007-2011) decreased by 0.04 percent, from 504.07 million in 2007 to 497.86 million US dollars by 2011. Raka added export realization of Bali from January-September 2012 reached 363.96 million US dol-lars. It is also experiencing a decrease of 8.59% compare to the same period in 2011. “The decline of the export realization because the impact of global crisis,” he said.

“Verification and inventory is a first step, before it is submitted to the Ministry of Education and Cul-ture,” said Dr. Ida Bagus Dharmika, MA, Chairman of the team.

The theme for this year’s decora-tions is “Joy to All,” but first dog Bo seems to steals the show. There are 40 “Bo-flake” ornaments through-out the White House that feature cutout images of the dog.

There’s a life-size replica of the dog, with a string of lights in his mouth, in the East Garden Room. And there’s an outsized statue of the Portuguese water dog next to the 300-pound (136-kilogram) gingerbread house in the State Dining Room.

Mrs. Obama said that reflects Bo’s high standing at the White House. “He’s almost as big as the house,” she declared. “He is such a huge personality.” Visitors also will get a Bo bookmark that sends them on a scavenger hunt for “Bo-orna-ments” stashed in eight rooms.

Bo himself made an appearance during Wednesday’s festivities, sporting a jingle bell collar, and was quickly swarmed by young guests. This year’s decorations include lots of handmade items that could easily be done at home, including patriotic wreaths and ornaments wrapped in red, white and blue yarn to fit with

WASHINGTON — “Bo-flakes” featuring the first dog and ornaments fashioned from zippers are among the new twists on traditional favorites at the White House this Christmas season. First lady Michelle Obama unveiled this year’s decorations before an appreciative crowd of military families Wednesday, then spent some time doing holiday crafts with military kids.

Mrs. Obama’s emphasis on support-ing military families.

The gargantuan gingerbread house, however, is not a feat for am-ateurs to attempt: It contains more than 175 pounds of gingerbread and modified gingerbread and more than 50 pounds (22 kilograms) of chocolate. Pastry chef Bill Yosses mixed up a combination of wheat, rye and white-flour gingerbread that mimics the color of the sandstone house prior to 1798, when the house was first painted white.

More than 90,000 visitors are expected to pass through the White House this holiday season. Execu-tive chef Cristeta Comerford said she’s drawing on the recipes in Mrs. Obama’s gardening book, “Ameri-can Grown,” as she prepares food for all the guests. The treats will include sweet potato quick bread, green beans with almonds and a winter salad featuring fennel.

The massive decorating job — there are 54 live Christmas trees in the White House — comes together in just five days, with the help of 85 volunteers from around the country. This year’s volunteers included

Nellie Funk, a military wife from Carlisle, Pa., who was working beside retired homicide detective Tracy Jacobson from Southern

California. Asked which job was more fun — detective or decorator — Jacobson deadpanned: “This has been much more fun.”

her husband, Prince William, attended a new hospital opening in Cambridge, and Middleton seemed less confident about her style. As the couple waved to the crowd from a windy balcony, Middleton’s new hairstyle looked extra wind-blown, and the Daily Mail reports that she repeatedly brushed her newly layered hair away from her face. She confessed to one spectator that she was insecure about her new fringe. “I told her I loved her new hair style,” onlooker Joanne Baldwin told the Daily Mail. “She said: ‘I’m not sure about it. It’s a bit windy today.’ I said ‘don’t worry, it looks lovely.’”

Personally, we like Middleton’s updated hairstyle, which also ap-pears a bit more vibrant than usual. Richard Ward has said he dyes Middleton’s hair with L’Oreal Sym-bio and Fuente Organic colour for around $376 a session. Perhaps she changed up the hue of her typical lowlights this time around.

NEW YORK — You remem-ber that Beatles classic “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”? Turns out Yoko Ono had other things in mind.

Ono’s new menswear collec-tion inspired by John Lennon includes pants with large hand-prints on the crotch, tank tops with nipple cutouts and even a flashing LED bra.

The collection of menswear for Opening Ceremony is based

on a series of drawings she sketched as a gift for Lennon for their wedding day in 1969. Ono said she the illustrations were designs for clothing and accessories to celebrate Lennon’s “hot bod.”

Also in the collection are a “butt hoodie” with an outline suggesting its name, pants with cutouts at the behind, a jock strap with an LED light, open-toed boots and a transparent chest plaque with bells and a leather neck strap.

Oh, Yoko! Ono’s fashion line gropes for Lennon

style once worn by Princess Diana. The Duchess wore this dress publicly once before, a year ago at a reception at Buckingham Palace, but now with her feathered hair her overall appear-ance is reminding us even more of the

late Princess of Wales. Both green silk dresses feature ruffled princess sleeves, collars, skinny matching belts, and long skirts. Middleton’s new face-framing fringe completes the parallel looks.

CANBERRA - Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard heads into an election year with her leadership bruised over a union scandal dating back 20 years and with her government struggling to gain voter support after a brutal political year that ended on Thursday.

Despite passing major reforms in 2012, Gillard’s minority gov-ernment trails in opinion polls after enduring a series of political scandals, a leadership fight with former prime minister Kevin Rudd, and regular suggestions that Gillard should be replaced.

However, senior government ministers rallied behind Gillard’s leadership on the final day of parlia-ment for the year on Thursday, shoring up her chances of leading the Labor Party into the next election, due around September 2013.

Senior govern-ment powerbroker Bill Shorten said the party strongly backed Gillard, while Deputy Prime Minister and Trea-surer Wayne Swan laughed off sugges-tions that the union scandal made Gil-lard’s leadership untenable.

“Those sorts of statements are

absolutely ridiculous,” Swan told reporters. Gillard has been under a sustained attack over her role as a lawyer in 1992, when she advised her then boyfriend and union official Bruce Wilson over a union slush fund which is now at the center of fraud claims.

Gillard has repeatedly said she did nothing wrong and had no knowledge of any fraud, but the opposition is now calling for her to resign and for a judicial inquiry, accusing Gillard of failing to fully explain her actions 20 years ago.

“She has consistently given evasive, misleading and obfuscat-ing answers, and that, frankly, is conduct unbecoming of a prime minister of this country,” Abbott told parliament.

The moves came a day after at least 200,000 protesters filled Cairo’s central Tahrir Square to denounce the decrees Morsi issued last week, which place him above oversight of any kind, including by the courts.

Threatening to turn the dispute into violent street clashes, Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood and the more radical Islamist Salafi Al-Nour party, called for a counter-demonstration this weekend in Tahrir Square, where

Morsi’s opponents have been hold-ing a sit-in for over a week.

Morsi says the decrees are neces-sary to protect the “revolution” that helped drive Hosni Mubarak from office last year as well as the na-tion’s transition to democratic rule. The constitutional declaration also provides the 100-member panel drafting a new constitution with immunity from the courts.

In a sign the dispute may take a sharp turn, the Supreme Constitu-

tional Court said in a statement that it will go ahead with plans to rule Sunday on whether to dissolve the assembly writing the new constitu-tion, which is dominated by the Brotherhood and its Islamist allies.

“The court is determined to rise above its pain and continue its sa-cred mission until the end, wherever that takes us,” Maher Sami, the high court’s deputy chairman, said in a televised speech.

The expected decision on Sun-day, regardless of which way it goes, would constitute a direct challenge to Morsi, who took of-fice in June as Egypt’s first freely elected president but has enraged pro-democracy activists who claim he is acting too much like the au-thoritarian leader he replaced.

QUITO - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is suffering from a chronic lung ailment that could wors-en at any time and is being checked regularly by doctors, the Andean country’s ambassador to Britain said on Wednesday. Assange, 41, whose website angered the United States by releasing thousands of secret diplo-matic cables, has been holed up inside Ecuador’s embassy in London since June to avoid extradition to Sweden for questioning over rape and sexual assault allegations. Assange has de-nied any wrongdoing.

“He has a chronic lung complaint that could get worse any time. The

Ecuadorean state is covering Mr As-sange’s medical costs and we have arranged for regular doctor visits to check on his health,” Ambassador Ana Alban told a local TV network during a visit to Quito.

British authorities say Assange will be arrested if he sets foot outside the embassy. The building, located just behind London’s famed Harrods department store, is under constant police surveillance.

Ecuador said last month it is worried about Assange’s health and asked Britain to guarantee him safe passage to hospital from the embassy if he needs medical treatment.

That would allow him to return to the embassy after treatment with

refugee status. Assange took refuge in the embassy after running out of legal options to avoid being sent to Sweden. Ecuador granted him asylum in August and said it shared his fears that he could be sent from Sweden to the United States to face charges over WikiLeaks’ activities.

U.S. and European government sources say the United States has issued no criminal charges against him, nor launched any attempts to extradite Assange. Assange is said to be living a cramped life inside the modest diplomatic mission. He eats mostly take-out food and uses a treadmill to burn off energy and a vitamin D lamp to make up for the lack of sunlight.

the contractor signed a statement of capability to accomplish the project as soon as possible.

Semarapura (Bali Post)—

The shed of boiled fish pro-cessing at Kusamba village, Dawan, makes the potential of local fisheries still survive. How-ever, the shed begins to give forth serious environmental impact. Its waste is discharged into the sea so that it often triggers a protest from fishermen. Local fishermen hope the waste of fish boiling can be channeled into septic tank so as not to contaminate the envi-ronment.

Previously, the waste had been complained by one of the local fisherman group leaders, I Wayan Suartika. He once conveyed the impact of the waste on the fisher-men’s catches at Kusamba. At that time, Suartika alleged the waste caused the decline in the catch of local fishermen. The waste was considered to contaminate the sea so that no fish were stuck in the fishing nets when going to sea.

As field observation of Bali Post on Wednesday (Nov 28), the waste of fish boiling was indeed flowed into the sea. One of the Kusamba residents who boiled fish at the location, Dewa Ayu Rai, admitted it. Every single processing, she could produce 400 baskets containing ten fish. The fish that had passed through boiling process was sold at higher price. “A fish bought from fisher-man at IDR 1,300 was sold for IDR 15,000 to IDR 25,000 per basket containing ten fish. The boiled fish is then sold to tradi-tional markets in Bangli, Badung, Gianyar to Menanga in Rendang, Karangasem,” she said.

A former fisherman at Kusam-ba now having profession to tow

a fishing boat, Nengah Mandri, said last Wednesday the request to make septic tank to hold the waste from the shed had been delivered a long time by related parties or those who had done a research in the boiled fish shed. Unluckily, it was not followed up so far. “If it continues to be drained to sea, the sea will obviously be contaminated. Lo-cal residents (of Kusamba) and students who made research here often delivered the problem to the government. Now, the condition is like that where the waste is still disposed to the sea,” he said.

Intensity of people’s activ-ity in the fish boiling shed was high enough. A shed officer, AA Gede Ngurah Berata, confessed last Wednesday there were 78 boiled fish makers dominated by the spouses of fishermen. Of that number, 50 people were catego-rized into large boiled fish maker (yielding over ten baskets) and the remaining was classified into medium and small ones. Within a day, they could work for 12 hours depending on the fish supply.

The fish boiling shed is now only relying on the fish sup-ply from Karangasem because Kusamba fishermen have long suffered a famine. As conse-quence, many Kusamba fisher-men are now looking for another job. The boiled fish makers are charged a levy of IDR 300 per basket of fish and cleaning up service at IDR 7,000 per month.

Residents of Kusamba ex-pected the waste from boiled fish shed at Kusamba could be made a septic tank so that the waste would no longer be discharged to the sea. (kmb31)

ReutersLOS ANGELES - A strike by clerical workers shut down terminals at

the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on Wednesday after other workers refused to cross picket lines at the nation’s busiest combined cargo complex, officials said.

Seven of eight terminals at the Port of Los Angeles were shut down by the action, along with three of six terminals at the neighboring Port of Long Beach, officials at the facilities said.

The strike is the largest work stoppage at the ports in a decade, but its effects on the movement of goods could ultimately be limited if workers return soon. Many goods destined for sale in the holiday shopping season have already moved through the ports.

Longshore clerks at the ports are in a dispute with terminal operators over staffing issues.

The clerks, represented by a unit of the International Longshore and Ware-house Union (ILWU) Local 63, took to the picket line on Wednesday, and other key personnel such as crane operators also represented by the ILWU have refused to cross picket lines.

Stephen Berry, lead negotiator for port operators the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Employers Association, said the strike marks “a dangerous escalation” in his group’s ongoing dispute with the union representing the clerks.

He added that if the strike continues “the negative effects on jobs and the economy will be felt nationwide.”

Most of the goods for sale in the holiday season have already moved through the ports, said Art Wong, a spokesman for the Port of Long Beach.

“The goods will be here, and they’ll move whenever they resolve this, so hopefully it will be very quickly,” he said.

The clerks say the Harbor Employers Association wants to outsource jobs they currently handle. The association counters the union wants them to hire unneeded workers.

The strike is the largest shutdown at the combined ports since 2002, said Phillip Sanfield, spokesman for the Port of Los Angeles.

The Port of Los Angeles is the largest U.S. container port by volume, and last year goods valued a combined $273 billion passed through the facility. The combined ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are the busiest U.S. cargo shipping complex. The suspension, announced

by the Environmental Protection Agency, comes on the heels of BP’s November 15 agreement with the U.S. government to plead guilty to criminal miscon-duct in the Gulf of Mexico disas-ter, the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history. The British energy giant agreed to pay $4.5 billion in penalties, including a record $1.256 billion criminal fine.

BP and its affiliates are barred from new federal contracts until they demonstrate they can meet federal business standards, the EPA said. The suspension is “standard practice” and BP’s ex-isting U.S. government contracts are not affected, it said.

The EPA acted hours before a government auction of offshore tracts in the Gulf of Mexico, a region where BP is the largest investor and lease-holder of deep-water tracts and hopes for further growth. BP is also the top fuel supplier to the U.S. military, the largest single buyer of oil in

the world.Suspension of contracts could

give the government leverage to pressure BP to settle federal and state civil litigation that could top $20 billion if a court finds BP was grossly negligent in the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

An EPA official said govern-ment-wide suspensions generally do not exceed 18 months, but can continue longer if there are ongoing legal cases.

In a statement, BP said it has been in “regular dialogue” with the EPA, and that the agency has informed BP that it is preparing an agreement that “would effectively resolve and lift this temporary suspension.” The EPA has notified BP that the draft agreement will be available soon, BP said.

U.S. operations accounted for more than 30 percent of BP’s pre-tax profits in the third quarter, and the United States accounts for about a fifth of BP’s global oil production.

The U.S. military has been a

reliable customer of BP’s jet fuel and other refined products. As re-cently as September, BP affiliates won two military fuel contracts worth as much as $1.37 billion, according to a website that tracks U.S. military contracts.

The EPA’s action is a sign that all federal contractors will be held to high standards, said Scott Amey, general counsel for the Project on Government Oversight, a private watchdog group.

“BP had years to improve its business ethics and is paying the price for its inaction,” Amey said.

On November 15, BP Finance Director Brian Gilvary told in-vestors on a conference call that any blanket ban could force the company to rethink its entire U.S. business.

The Justice Department says it intends to prove in a court case set to get underway in February 2013 that BP was grossly negli-gent under the Clean Water Act, a claim the company has ada-mantly denied.fuel supplier.

JAKARTA - Protected wildlife trade turns out to have penetrated into the virtual world. According to one of environmental activists, this is a new method of wildlife trade that should be aware by everyone that concerns about endangered species that now being threatened.

Irma Hermawati from ProFauna Indonesia said that trade via online become very famous and sometimes going un-noticed so wildlife trader also using this method to do their business. To prevent the online trade become extremely rampant, Irma suggest that everyone should involve and become aware on this new mode of wildlife trade.

“We will exchange information and experience with each other, given the wildlife trade via the internet is a new mode, so that it is necessary to do synergy of various parties,” explains Irma Hermawati from ProFauna Indo-nesia.

In order to help rescue and prevent wildlife transactions online, several non-governmental organization (NGOs) col-laborate with e-commerce website, Tokobagus.com.

According to Ichwan Sitorus, PR Manager Tokobagus.com, although the website is giving opportunity for everyone to doing online transaction, it does not tolerate the existence of rare wildlife trade.

“We support the movement of the non-governmental institutions to save endangered wildlife that now sold on-line,” he said.

He said NGOS that committed to fight wildlife trade via the internet are very welcome to cooperate with. Some of the institutions committed in the movement, including the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), ProFauna Indonesia, Mata Satwa, and Burung Indonesia. These institutions have agreed to mutually exchange information if other party found out about any practices that include wildlife trade that appeared online.

Ichwan says Tokobagus.com along those institutions support wildlife rescue efforts which were protected natural resources and biodiversity and its ecosystem. He also invited all parties to safeguard the environment, nature and all its contents, in order to remain sustain-able. (kmb18)

The Sukhoi Superjet-100 was deemed airworthy last week by the country’s general directorate of civil aviation, said Transporta-tion Ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan.

The certification was based on a thorough validation process and has nothing to do with the crash investigation that’s still ongoing, he said.

“It was granted after a careful validation process, which found the type has met all required stan-dards,” Ervan said.

In May, a Sukhoi Superjet-100 crashed into Mount Salak, a dor-

mant Indonesian volcano, during a demonstration flight to impress potential buyers, killing all 45 people aboard.

Masruri, head of the Air Trans-portation Safety Division, said the investigation into the crash has been completed and the results are expected to be announced as soon as next month. He declined to provide any additional details. Like many In-donesians, he uses only one name.

Meanwhile, Sunaryo, an offi-cial from Sukhoi’s representative office in Indonesia, PT Trimarga Rekatama, said the certification will allow delivery of the aircraft

to its first customer in Southeast Asia, the Indonesian airline Sky Aviation, which has signed a deal for 12 planes.

He added that the first delivery is expected to arrive before the end of the year.

Another Indonesian company, Kartika Airlines, also ordered 30 aircraft, but the fate of that deal is not clear following the crash, Sunaryo said.

The Superjet is Russia’s first new model of passenger jet since the fall of the Soviet Union two decades ago and is intended to help resurrect its aerospace industry.

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s govern-ment is targeting around $40 billion in total investment in 2013, up about 25 percent from this year’s record levels, as companies look to take advantage of surging consumer demand, the country’s investment chief said on Tuesday.

Foreign direct investment is likely to make up over three-quarters of total investment, or over $31 billion in 2013, with the country hoping to attract signature firms that will create a knock-on effect through publicity and associated companies.

“The focus is on firms that bring a supply chain, like Toyota,” Chatib Basri told Reuters in an interview.

Auto firms such as Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp. and Germany’s BMW are investing billions in production in Indonesia, where car sales grew 24 percent in October.

Investment is moving from the re-source sector, which has been rattled by new policies and legal uncertainty this year, towards consumer products, given forecasts for a future “consumer class” of 135 million people, Basri said.

L’Oreal, Nestle and Procter &

Gamble are among the consumer firms investing in Indonesia. The govern-ment has said Apple Inc supplier Foxconn Technology Group plans to invest up to $10 billion.

Basri declined to give names of po-tential firms, though highlighted elec-tronics as well as food and beverages as sectors likely to see investment.

Indonesia had pulled in $17.4 billion in FDI by the third quarter pf this year, helping make up for weak exports and shore up its balance of payments to keep economic growth above 6 percent.

The higher forecast for 2013 sig-nals confidence that Southeast Asia’s biggest economy will remain a hot investor favourite in a struggling global economy, despite worries about infrastructure, labour unrest and regu-latory risks.

Basri said he was very confident on a strong outlook for the first quarter next year because imports of capital goods, a leading indicator for invest-ment, were still growing above 20 percent. But the situation in Europe could affect the financing ability of firms looking to expand in 2013, he said.

A survey by the British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia released

on Tuesday found 56 percent of firms positive on their outlook in the coun-try, with only 3 percent very negative. More than two-thirds planned to raise investment and staffing next year.

Basri said he found the survey overly confident.

Investors’ top concern is a lack of infrastructure, particularly with strained port capacity and high lo-gistics costs, he said. Another is regulatory risks, such as government flip-flops, corruption and local licens-ing problems.

“One agency says A, another says B, and investors get confused,” Basri said, adding he was addressing a lack of transparency with an electronic monitoring system for applications, and calling for more investor input ahead of policy-making.

The government’s policies this year on mining have been widely criticized as unworkable, leading to a series of legal challenges by regional govern-ments and industry associations.

Labor unrest because of a push by unions for higher wages has also emerged as a problem in the past year. Indonesia has among the lowest wages in Asia, attracting garment and foot-wear makers, but sharp wage hikes for next year may hurt such firms.

Kevin Durant greeted former team mate James Harden with 37 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder blasted Hous-ton Rockets 120-98 on Wednesday to spoil the shooting guard’s return to the Chesapeake Energy Arena. Harden returned to Oklahoma City for the first time since being traded just before the season and it was a forgettable night for him and the Rockets (7-8).

Powered by Durant’s hot shooting, the Thunder (12-4) blew open a close game in the second quarter where they led by 18 before keeping the visiting Rockets at bay. “I really wanted to win this game,” Durant told reporters. “Especially for all those times in practice that (Harden) and the rest of the second team beat all of us on the first team.”

Serge Ibaka backed Durant with 23 and nine rebounds and Oklahoma City raced to their second straight blowout, having destroyed Charlotte 114-69 on Monday.

Harden, the Sixth Man of the Year last season, has emerged as the lead scorer for Houston but struggled against the Thunder making three of 16 shots for 17 points. It had already been a humbling day for the Rockets who earlier attended the funeral of coach Kevin McHale’s daughter who died from an auto-immune disease last week. McHale has been away from the team since November 10.

Patrick Patterson scored a team-high 27 points for Houston but there were few bright spots for the visitors. The Rockets were within two after the first quarter, but Oklahoma City opened the second with a 9-0 run and kicked things into another gear. Kevin Martin, who was sent to the Thunder from Houston as part of the Harden trade, ended up with 17 points off the bench.

Harden got a warm ovation from the fans prior to the game. His quick departure had come as a shock to basket-ball fans after he helped lead Oklahoma City to the NBA Finals but could not come to terms on a new contract with the team.

“I was put in a tough situation where things didn’t hap-pen the way I wanted them to,” Harden said. “That’s in the past. All I can do now is focus on what I need to do to be a better basketball player and leader.”

The Spaniard was probably not expecting a ticker-tape welcome when the club’s owner Roman Abramovich hired him as an interim manager after Roberto Di Matteo’s harsh sacking last week, but the depth of ill feeling directed towards the former Liverpool manager has been unprecedented.

His first match in charge, against champions Manchester City last Sunday, was greeted with boos, unflattering chants and “Rafa Out” signs. Wednesday’s dismal draw with local rivals Fulham was played out in almost complete silence as a pall of gloom appeared to descend on the club that just a few weeks earlier was top of the Premier League and playing sparkling, at-tacking football.

Quiet it most certainly will not be at Upton Park, where the home fans will give Benitez their own East End welcome for the opening game of a weekend of top flight ac-tion. Chelsea were top of the table with 22 points a month ago when their unbeaten start was ended by Manchester United.

They have managed just four

points since, have been embroiled in racism allegations against referee Mark Clattenburg, of which they have since back-tracked, are on the verge of a Champions League exit and sacked the manager that took the club to Europe’s top club trophy.

West Ham will be licking their lips, even if the Hammers have slipped down to mid-table after consecutive defeats by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Benitez will take some comfort from two clean sheets but after slip-ping seven points behind leaders Manchester United they need to start scoring again if their title challenge is not to be over before Christmas.

DISMAL RUN“Two clean sheets is something

positive but still I want to score goals and be more offensive,” Benitez said after the draw against Fulham which extended Chelsea’s dismal run without a league win to six. “We have some confidence because we don’t concede and if we can build from there I will be hap-py.” Captain John Terry, midfielder Frank Lampard and striker Daniel

Sturridge are all unlikely to be fit to face West Ham with Sturridge’s ab-sence meaning misfiring Fernando Torres will again be shouldering his side’s attacking options.

Midweek victories for Man-chester United and Manchester City underlined the growing feeling of a two-horse title race. Despite neither side firing on all cylinders this season they are churning out victories. United should overwhelm Reading in Saturday’s evening kickoff (1730), although they will be wary after their previous away league game ended in a 1-0 defeat at Norwich City.

Rivals City, who are a point behind and still unbeaten, have a tougher looking test at home to Everton whose early-season form has cooled somewhat after a run of draws.

Fourth-placed West Bromwich Albion will look to get back on track after a midweek defeat at Swansea City with a home match against Stoke City while Tottenham Hotspur have crept back up to fifth following Wednesday’s Gareth Bale-inspired win over Liverpool. They are away at Fulham.

“City are still on our tails so it’s going to be a long season,” United manager Alex Ferguson, whose side go to Man City the following week, said on the club’s website (www.manutd.com).

MADRID - There were plenty of rea-sons for Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova to be satisfied after his side secured a spot in the last 16 of the King’s Cup on Wednesday but David Villa’s double probably comes near the top of the list. The prolific Spain striker, sidelined for eight months after breaking his leg at the Club World Cup last December, netted twice in a 3-1 victory at the Nou Camp that eliminated third-tier Alaves 6-1 on aggregate.

The goals were his seventh and eighth in 16 appearances since his return from injury, the first a magnificent freekick, and took his career tally for club and country to 301.

Known as “El Guaje”, or “The Kid” in his native Asturian, Villa looks to be back to something near his best at a crucial time for Barca, who are top of La Liga and through to the last 16 of the Champions League. “Every day he looks better,” Vilanova, in his first season in charge after stepping up from assistant coach to replace Pep Guardiola at the end of last term, told a news conference.

“It was a complicated injury and he has worked a great deal over the sum-mer,” he added. “He is a player who has the scorer’s gift and it is important to have him in the squad.”

Villa, who turns 31 on Monday, joined Barca from Valencia at the end of the 2009-10 season after stints at Sporting Gijon and Real Zaragoza, where he scored 40 goals for each club.

After netting 128 times for Valencia, he now has 40 for Barca, plus another 53 in 85 games for Spain, making him the world and European champions’ record scorer, nine ahead of former Real Madrid striker Raul.

COPENHAGEN - Ten fans were arrested and one injured following a pitch invasion at the end of a dramatic Danish Cup derby between Brondby and FC Copenhagen, ac-cording to local police. With their struggling team second from bottom in Denmark’s Superligaen, Brondby fans stormed the pitch following a 1-0 victory after extra time against their bitter city rivals.

“The sad epilogue to the game is that we see thousands of Brondby fans running onto the pitch,” police inspector Michael Kristiansen, adding the fans were arrested for disorder and breaches of firework regu-lations.

“The object was clearly to get into a confrontation with FC Copenhagen fans,” Kristiansen said. Brondby’s head of secu-rity Emil Bakkendorf condemned the fans involved.

“It is shameful and unacceptable. This is a grotesque development. I strongly condemn this,” he told Danish radio station DR.

Denpasar (Bali Post) –

The robbery act of pratima (reli-gious sacred statues owned by Pura) happened again, after some Pura in Jembrana robbed, now they acted at Badung specifically at Baha Village, Mengwi, Badung last Wednesday (28/11). A number of gold and silver jewelries were taken and also some coins. Badung Police have now inves-tigated the case.

At least five Pura were robbed, Pura Desa, Pura Puseh, Pura Gunung Agung then Pura Pengrubungan at Banjar Busan Kaja and Pura Dalem Surya at Banjar Pengabetan, Baha Village. All the robbery was just known by 6 am lo-cal time when its Head of Village, Made Nuarsa was walking about and passing the Khayangan Tiga temples where he saw the pandil door of a shrine in the middle of Pura Gunung Agung was opened. Witness then told the Priest of the Pura and checked the scenery.

When they went in, the place was in a mess, 200 coins were gone in Pura Desa, also the same number in Pura Puseh while 400 coins in Pura Gunung Agung while at Pura Dalem Surya 1 set of pretima, petapaka, 14 golden flowers, 3 silver prerai also 200 coins were missing. The Head of Buleleng Disaster Management Agency, Putu Dana, after the meeting with the contrac-tor last Wednesday said it was

executed to resolve the problem on the delay of bridge project that had been raided by Commission B of the Buleleng House. In the meeting,

the contractor signed a statement of capability to accomplish the project as soon as possible.

Dana affirmed his party would disburse the remaining funds up to 70 percent to the contractor if it had completed the work and paid the fine. “Therefore, if it has been completed, we will check it first and do the handover. After the contractor pays the fine, we will disburse the unpaid balance,”

he said.Ketut Yasa as Director of CV

Krishna Putra Bali working on the project said last Wednesday that the bridge project delayed in the implementation process, so the completion was also late as well. Nevertheless, Yasa expressed his willingness to complete the project in the near future. Related to fines, Yasa also agreed to the payment of penalty imposed by

the BPBD.As reported, the bridge project at

Musi village, Gerokgak subdistrict, had been raided by Commission B of the Buleleng House because the workmanship was considered late. The BPBD of Buleleng becoming the project owner then reprimanded the contractor to speed up the work. Besides, the BPBD also imposed penalty for late completion to proj-ect contractor. (kmb15)

(kmb31)

She explained that over the past 10 years (1990-2012), Indo-

treated correctly, the negative accusation will impose a ban on exports to the accuser countries.

NEGARA - Makepung, which is an agricultural tradition in Jem-brana Regency, proposed to recog-nized as UNESCO’s world cultural heritage (WCH).

The team from the Center for Bali’s Culture Preservation and Ba-li’s Udayana University Research Center conducts verification and inventory of the traditions.

“Verification and inventory is a first step, before it is submitted to the Ministry of Education and Cul-ture,” said Dr. Ida Bagus Dharmika, MA, Chairman of the team.

He hopes makepung could fol-

According to historical tradition, Dharmika said, racing buffalo has been around since the 1920s, so makepung have a chance to be recognized by UNESCO.

“Moreover, makepung only existed in Jembrana Regency. Al-though many other cultures enter Jembrana, the tradition still persists to this day,” said Dharmika.

In this verification, the team in-vited makepung team from East and West Ijogading, as well as Jembrana government.

California. Asked which job was more fun — detective or decorator — Jacobson deadpanned: “This has been much more fun.”

and long, side-swept bangs. On Wednesday, The Duchess and

her husband, Prince William, attended a new hospital opening in Cambridge, and Middleton seemed less confident about her style.

Middleton’s hair isn’t the only thing getting attention this week. Her $2,200 festive green Mulberry dress is drawing comparisons to a similar

(kmb27)

“We do everything possible to maintain the community sta-bility associated with the fuel fulfillment. It can be ascertained that fuel stock in Bali is secure,” said Iin Febrian in Denpasar.

According to Iin, the fuel stock in Bali had no constraints, as happened in some regions beyond Bali. Quota of the sub-sidized fuel for Bali in 2012 reached 767,038 kiloliters (KL) for Premium, while 224,155

KL for diesel fuel. The amount was predicted to suffice until the end of the year and even the realization could exceed about one percent.

“Fuel quota in Bali experi-ences no reduction, so that it is secure until the end of 2012. However, the decline is vulner-able to happen because of enter-ing holiday season. We estimate the realization of subsidized fuel consumption until the end

of 2012 exceeds one percent of the quota,” Iin said.
