The disabled driver training programme is conducted exactly the same way it is for able-bodied

individuals. You will be required to undergo the routine 40 classes + Signal test + Parking test

    +Assessment + Road Test.

Any car can be adapted to suit the needs of a disabled driver. However, Arabian Automobiles (Nissan

Models) have pledged to adapt any of their cars with the hand-controls for disabled drivers.

The The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Rashid Hospital will conduct an upper

and lower body assessment, which will help judge the physical strength of your upper body

movements. They will also evaluate your ability to get in and out of the vehicle without assistance.

Swed Adaptations, a competent Swedish firm having over 40 years experience in adapting vehicles forthe physically disabled have imparted training to EDI instructors and RTA examiners to conduct the

driver training programmes & relevent tests for the challenged.

Licensing agency of the RTA will monitor regulations and procedures and will incorporate changes to

accommodate needs of the challenged candidates who wish to drive.

The prestigious Rashid Hospital will conduct assessments of prospective drivers and make the needful

    recommendation to RTA.

Technicians of the Arabian Automobiles have adapted the EDI training cars with the hand-controlled

system provided by Swed Adaptations. They also offer to adapt any of their range of cars as a gesture of

    appreciation towards this programme.

The adapted car would have a single lever, held by the right hand, which will operate the accelerator and

the brake, the left hand is therefore free to handle the steering at all times. A simple device added to the

steering wheels will ensure full steering control.
