Edible peren- nials and food crops can be extremely beautiful and are often more vibrant than shrubs and plants often selected for landscaping outside business. Many of these have thores or poison berries and send a “warn- ing” call while edible food plants invite people in with a smile. 2. Healthy Food Lack of access to healthy fresh fruits and vegetables is a problem in our community. The Growing Civic Fruit campaign makes more fresh fruits and vegetables available to those who choose to harvest. Harvest is free and small signs will promote ethical harvesting. 3. Growing Art Edible landscaping in civic space - where people gather, do busi- ness, meet, and play - is a form of public art. With soil as our can- vas we grow reds and purples and yellows and whites. Our art comes to life, grows, and inspires many who come in contact with it. Growing a Healthy TomorrowFour Steps to A Food Forest at Your Place

1. Assess SiteLet’s go outside and assess your

site together. 1. How much soil space is at your

business or place?2. Is water accessible to help plants

get established?3. Is the location in full sun, shade,

part-sun?4. What are your goals and/or con-

cerns for yoru edible landscape?

2. Select PlantsWe’ll look at a list of edible plants suitable

for our climate and your location and

select the ones that work best to address your edible landscap-

ing goals.

3. Host WorkpartyLet the Apple Corp plant an artful edible garden.

Join in the fun! We’ll schedule a workparty

date on a Saturday that works for you.

4. Maintain TogetherIs step one we’ll assess our mutual ability to maintain your edible landscaping.

What plants we select will depend in part on your abil-ity to help water plants. The Apple Corp volunteers can

assist in maintenance during our weekly workparties.
