Have you ever

noticed rude people are everywhere? They are in the

grocery stores, in the restaurants, and on the freeway.

How many times have you held a door open for someone, and instead of that person saying "thank you," he or she walks right by you without a word? Or, how about when you are standing in a grocery store aisle looking at an item, and along comes someone who chooses to cut right in front of you without excusing themselves? Or, my personal favorite, how about when you stop to allow pedestrians to pass in front of your car, and they take their sweet time without so much as a glance in your direction?

Truly, nothing irks me more than this kind of flagrant disregard of social etiquette, when I

go out of my way to be courteous to a perfect stranger and he or she acts as if I'm invisible. What gives? Is rudeness the new "cool" thing and someone forgot to tell me?

When I was a child in the 1980s, long before iPods and Blackber-rys, expressing gratitude and thankfulness was akin to, well, breath-ing. You didn't think about whether you should or not, you did it automatically. You learned by example from parents who cared enough to teach you how to treat others. And if by some unlikely chance you were caught being rude, the subsequent parental correc-tion was swift and stern.

It is absolutely true that habits and behaviors initiated in the home carry abroad. Simply put, rude people are raised by rude parents. So I guess the takeaway would be for parents (you know who you are) to become mindful of the kind of messages you send your children about how to behave and interact with others in a positive, gracious manner. Children will emulate their parents' behavior, period.It is not okay to wear shirts in public that say F*** You. It is not okay to curse in public and it is not okay to simply be rude. Grow up learn some manners and take pride in yourself. What moron told you it was okay to act less then proper at all times??

McRibYou've probably heard a guy shouting it from the nearest rooftop, but is it worth the hype?

The McRib, you may have heard, has been unleashed upon the salivating masses yet again. The schedule that determines our access to the McRib is, as always, impossible to decipher. We can't possibly predict the next time we'll have all the McRibs we want. All we know is that right now select McDonald's locations are selling the pork-patty-molded-to-look-like-ribs sandwich for a limited time. There are few occasions where North Americans can rise up together as one in their excitement. Normally, sports or politics divide us. But the release of the McRib is different. We're all in this together. Let's go get one right now.

Wait, what? I was kidding. You didn't think I was kidding? I was. Snap out of it. It's a sandwich. They only give you two pickle slices, for crying out loud. The length of the sandwich easily accommodates four pickle slices.

I mean, it's a good sandwich, mostly because it's incredibly fatty and the redness of the sauce is so luscious that it actually tricks your tastebuds into believing it's as delicious as your brain desperately yearns for it to be. But it's not that good. It's not Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme good. (Ever had one of those? They're excellent.)

The McRib: A HistoryThe McRib was released for the first time in 1981. As always, necessity was the mother of invention. The Chicken McNugget had been introduced in 1979, and McNuggets were selling so fast that McDonald's couldn't get hold of enough chickens to handle the demand. So to take some of the chicken pressure off, they developed the McRib, which incidentally is made of pork shoulder, not ribs, but who am I kidding? You know it's not really ribs, and you don't care. Anyway, the McRib was a hit, and they've kept it a hit by creating a PR cycle all about yearning and scarcity. Their publicity action plan works really well. I'm psyched about having my semi-annual McRib for lunch today. In fact, a bunch of us here at the office are piling into a cab and heading to our nearest McRib-peddling McDonald's, just to say we did. And to eat some tasty, limited-time-only pork.

A new album of recordings by the late soul singer Amy Winehouse will be released in December, Island Records said Monday. It said "Lioness: Hidden Treasures" will contain 12 songs - previously unreleased tracks, alternative versions of existing hits and brand new songs - recorded by the beehive-wearing singer who died at her London home on July 23.

The label said Winehouse's longtime musical partners Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi had spent time since her death listening to recordings of the singer, who many said never sang or played a song the same way twice.

Island Records said the duo quickly realized that they had "a collection of songs that deserved to be heard, a collection of songs that were a fitting testament to Amy the artist and, as importantly, Amy their friend."

The album - Winehouse's third after "Frank" and "Back to Black" - will be released on Dec. 5. Ronson and Remi compiled the tracks in collabo-ration with Winehouse's family, management and the label.

Winehouse's final studio recording - a cover of "Body & Soul" sung with Tony Bennett - will be included in the album.

The singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, said he had never before heard another one of the tracks, "Halftime," and described the song as "just incredibly beautiful.""If the family had felt that this album wasn't up to the standard of 'Frank' and 'Back To Black' we would never have agreed to release it and we believe it will stand as a fitting tribute to Amy's musical legacy," he said in the Island Records statement.

A donation of 1 pound ($1.60) from the sale of each album in the U.K. will go to a foundation to assist disadvantaged children and young adults set up in the artist's name following her death.

Adele to Have Vocal Cord Surgery, Cancels 2011 Tour DatesThe silence continues for Adele, who announced that she will have to cancel the rest of her tour dates for 2011 to undergo throat surgery. The "Someone Like You" singer has been cancelling shows throughout the U.S. due to vocal illness.

"It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011," reads the statement.

"She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments," the statement continues.

In October, Adele was set to kick off her sold-out 10 city tour of the U.S. on Oct. 7, but announced that she would be unable to perform due to a vocal chord hemorrhage. She also canceled a performance at the Q Awards in London on Oct. 24. She won two awards at the event.

Now, due to her surgery, shows in the U.K. in November will also be canceled. Ticketholders will receive a refund for their purchase.
