One of the most popular shows in EdenCourt’s recent history returns for a morethan welcome second visit to its highlandhome. Sunshine on Leith is the hilarious, compelling tale of Davy and Ally – twochildhood friends returning home toEdinburgh after their tour of duty in Afghanistan.

It soon becomes clear that the Edinburghthey left behind has changed in their timeaway. The trials and tribulations offamilies, relationships and life in sunnyLeith are far from plain sailing – withgirlfriends, mothers and job hunting - the ups and downs of life in ‘civvy street’present their own unique challenges.

Sunshine on Leith is written by StephenGreenhorn (creator of River City and

Passing Places) and is a true Scottishstage gem which remains unsurpassed inits style, sparkle and sensitivity.

This truly exceptional love story is more thanjust a musical; it’s a timeless tale of the lifeand times of a modern Scottish family.

Sunshine on Leith is a dazzling display ofsupreme live music, comedy, dance andhard-hitting drama which seamlesslyblends the very best Proclaimers’ hits andsome of their less well known creations intothe narrative of this unforgettable show.

Sunshine On Leith all but sold out last timeit came to the Highlands – don’t miss thisspecial return visit… We can’t promise tobring it back a third time!

Winter.

Behind a window, in a cosy room, a group of friends gather for a meal. The lamps are on, everyone is happy.Talk begins and stories unfoldaround the table, stories about theliving and the dead, about missingnecklaces and what happens whenpeople get hungry.

Secrets emerge. Lies are exposed.Outside someone is watching.

This production is inspired by NobelPrize winner Maurice Maeterlinck’sastonishing play, Interior. Utterlyhypnotic, deeply mysterious andpowerfully intense, Interiors is about sounds, silence, the path

of fate and the darkness outside the window.

Interiors is a show like you havenever seen before. The audience aremere observers, the action takesplace silently behind the window, andwe as audience hear only thenarrator.

Interiors is sure to be one of themost talked about shows of 2010 –make sure you’re there.

From revered Royal Ballet choreographerFrederick Ashton comes Scènes deBallet. This sophisticated work combinesintricate pointe, couture-inspired tutusand Stravinsky’s gorgeous score with ahint of 1940s Broadway glamour.

At the centre of the programme is a pieceby San Francisco Ballet choreographerVal Caniparoli. Set to two chamberscores by Uzbekistani composer ElenaKats Chernin, this new work showcases

Caniparoli’s distinctive dramatic yetsensual choreographic style.

TOUCH PAPER Choreographed by Andy Howitt

The lads - Moko, Heggie, Malky, Zinc and Davo. Their powerstruggle builds and builds until bang – it ignites in a fieryinferno! But who will light the touch paper? This furnace ofphysical theatre, performed by five male dancers, exploresthe complexities of human relationships in a high energy, explosive combination of dance motifs and gestures.

TRIGGERChoreographed by Thomas Small

An underlying, volatile ember triggers a series of events thatresult in a menacing explosion of raw athleticism and ferociousenergy. This powerful new work for five men convulses with abrutish and disruptive force that electrifies and excitesaudiences. This is dance at breakneck speed and power.

SCOTTISH OPERA

CARMEN FRI 01 & SAT 02 OCT | 19.30ONETOUCH THEATRE

BEAUTIFUL GYPSIES, obsession, bullfighters andsome of the liveliest rhythms in opera… it can only beCarmen. This new production is set in 1960s Spain, acountry firmly entrenched in General Franco’s right-wing regime. Women are oppressed, the gypsiesghettoised, the country is riddled with poverty, andblack-market smuggling is rife.

The stakes are high for Carmen. An outspoken gypsywith a beautiful face and a fiery temper, she sets hersights on the soldier Don José. His desire leads himto deny his friends and position and he is soon living alife outside the law. As his relationship with Carmendisintegrates and she leaves him for another, he setsout to prove his love, but Carmen has seen the futurein her tarot cards and it isn’t a happy one.

Bizet’s boldly seductive opera has been one of theworld’s favourites for over a century. From the sultry‘Habanera’ to the naively passionate ‘Flower Song’and the rousing ‘Toreador’s Song’, Bizet’s ever-popular music brings out the earthy vitality of hischaracters. Alan Bissett is one of Scotland’s most exciting young writers. Here hepresents a series of stories from Falkirk’s hardest woman, MoiraBell. Whether defending her ‘snookelums pookelums’ from the localrottweiler, attempting to seduce a teacher in the school where sheworks as a cleaner, or belting out Diana Ross for the Scotia karaokenight, Moira is hilarious and heart-warming company.

Everybody knows a Moira – it may be your wife, sister or mum. What’s for certain is that Alan Bissett brings this ubiquitous Scottishcharacter to life in a way that will have you laughing yourself silly!

It’s Christmas day in Stewarton and Irene Gordon’sstruggling to get in the festive spirit. Her 18-year-olddaughter Norma’s just had a baby; her ex-husbandGordon’s just had a stroke and her eldest, Barry is having abreak down.

Even the Dr Who Christmas special is disappointing. If thiswas a wonderful life she would receive some angelicintervention - instead she gets Rab McGuire and an escapedchicken that won’t be stuffed.

DC Jacksonis one of Scotland’s most exciting young playwrights. He iscurrently under commission to the Royal Court Theatre,London, the National Theatre of Scotland, The Comedy Unitand BBC Radio Scotland.

THE MAN WHO LEFT THE TITANICFRI 24 SEP | 20.00ONETOUCH THEATRE

On Sunday April 14th 1912, the Titanic, the greatest ship inthe world, slipped below the frigid waters of the Atlantic.

J. Bruce Ismay, Managing Director of the White Star Line, stepped into a lifeboat and sailed away from the strickenship, sailed away from his passengers, sailed away from thecries and screams and tears.

Women and children first?

The Man Who Left The Titanic evokes that terrible voyageand asks whether Bruce Ismay did just what any of us wouldhave done in the same circumstances? Should his actionsthat night consign his name to infamy?

Was he a coward or merely human?

A beautifully realised tale about thereality of survival in Eastern Europe.

An extraordinarynew comedy directfrom the EdinburghFestival Fringe 2010!

The year is 2015.

England has adopted new anti-terrorism laws that dispense with thelast of their civil liberties. Dizraeli, the leader of the popular revolution, has been arrested and faces terrorism charges. Baba Brinkman is thejournalist assigned to interview the prisoner and get to the bottom ofhis dissident politics.

Welcome to the Rebel Cell, a lyrical battle of wits and world-views.

Set in an interview room in a state police station, two men lock hornsin a daring and vivacious battle of political ideologies. Using multi-media projections, real time camera work and a live scratch DJ, theaudience is taken back to 2010 to scenes which reveal a turbulenthistory between Dizraeli and Brinkman.

This highly irreverent political comedy is a thrilling rap drama ofvivacious fun, dextrous word-smithery and awe-inspiring eloquence.

Scotland’s favourite children’s entertainers have to dress toimpress when they are invited by Lord Spout of Glenkettle to helprescue his run down castle.

Artie has appointed himself as the local Laird and Cilla the Ladyof the Manor, while Kevin is the Gamekeeper and Gary is a ScattyScottish Entertainer - bagpipes and all.

How difficult can it be to hang a portrait, display a suit of armouror place a stag’s head on the wall?

Nothing’s easy at Calamity Castle!

Especially when our four tartan heroes are distracted by ancientSinging Kettles that they find everywhere - from the sky-highturrets to the secret cellars. Can they complete the task beforeLord Spout’s return? Yes, but only with the assistance of younghelpers in the audience who have a chance to join in with theaction on stage!

Remember to Dress up in Tartan for some crazy Highland Funand Games at Calamity Castle.

This is a rare chance to see Jean Epstein's 1928masterpiece version of Edgar Alan Poe’s classic tale– The Fall of the House of Usher. At once full ofsuspense and visually stunning, coupled with thenew score – cinema fans are in for a pure treat. Thenew score is written and performed by The SouthwellCollective using music inspired by quotes found inPoe's original story.

Ghosts Before Breakfast, by Hans Richter, is a shortfilm in which ordinary objects behave in unusual, unexpected ways. The new score, composed byMichael McCartney for The Southwell Collective, aspires to achieve the same effect, featuring musicwhich sounds somewhat familiar, yet subtlyunpredictable.

John Hegley is a ‘British Institution’ – his irreverent style isunique, unmatchable, unsurpassed.

In ‘The Adventures of Monsieur Robinet’ he’ll tell talesabout a Frenchman with some unusual [but clean] habits, which include burying his dog’s kennel and his ownluggage. The stories are presented alongside other newworks, which include an address to aliens on the subject of transport, a poem about a non-talking parrot and someanimal impersonations with the aid of a handkerchief.

Suitable for most people over seven.

The audience are invited to sing along. But not to dance. Much.

Hegley is known as a poet and singer with a common andcomedic touch, hence the quotation from The Observer,'Awesomely mundane'

Gershwin's music has always beenplayed by jazz musicians, yet his mostfamous work has remained in theclassical music repertoire, and is afavourite of classical pianists andOrchestras.

What would it sound like played by a JazzOrchestra and pianist? Tommy Smith hasarranged the music, and Brian Kellock, classically trained and an aficionado ofthe piece, will play an extended 45minute version of "Rhapsody In Blue.

Under Tommy Smith's remarkableleadership, the SNJO has evolved into abig band of undeniably internationalclass, packed with a raft of terrificsoloists reflective of a richly talentedScottish jazz scene - Ryan Quigley, PaulTowndrow and Martin Kershaw are wellto the fore. Tonight's concert is a mustfor jazz and big band fans alike.

The leader's brilliant reworking ofGershwin's orchestral classic for bigband, 'Rhapsody in Blue', features BrianKellock - a virtual one man history ofjazz piano. The other half of the concertis a tribute to Buddy Rich, bandleaderand arguably the greatest jazz drummerever. As individual musicians Chris Stout and CatrionaMcKay need little introduction to traditional musicaudiences, either in the UK or further afield. Their newalbum will launch this summer and includes musicinspired by international award winning crime novelistAnn Cleeves (who appeared at IBF 2009), and inparticular her book 'White Nights' which is set inShetland and contains a fiddle playing characterinspired by Chris.

We’re delighted to present two incredible musicians inone amazing (and very affordable) package.

Unbelievably, December 2009 marked the 30thAnniversary of The Jam album classic, Setting Sons.Their sound is as unmistakeable and distinctive todayas it was then. From The Jam have a reputation forgiving the kind of incendiary 'live' performances thatsealed the reputation of the original band all thoseyears ago.

Lead singer, Bruce Foxton recently appeared livealongside Paul Weller to perform The Jam classics'The Eton Rifles' and 'The Butterfly Collector' as wellas 'Fast Car/Slow Traffic' at the Albert Hall.

Perth Theatre presents Death of a Salesmanby Arthur Miller

Directed by Ian Grieve

'Willy Loman never made a lot of money. His name was neverin the paper. He's not the finest character that ever lived. Buthe's a human being, and a terrible thing is happening to him.So attention must be paid.'

34 years ago travelling salesman Willy Loman climbed intohis car to chase the American dream: running on hope and'riding on a smile and a shoeshine' into the land ofopportunity.

This is the journey of his life, told in one day. Willy, now 63,returns home for the last time to his family, with hismemories, his daydreams and his terrible fear thatsomewhere along the road he might have taken a wrong turn.

Death of a Salesman is arguably Arthur Miller’s greatestcreation. The ‘first great American tragedy’ helped Miller gainthe reputation as someone who understood the essence ofthe American nation. Death of a Salesman not only addressesthe painful conflicts within a family but considers the cost ofblind faith in the American Dream. It won the Pulitzer Prize in1945 and is as hard-hitting 66 years later as it was then.
