    H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

2 - Reteach Minilesson, Graphic Organizers

(one for neighborhood, one for community)

Students will independently complete 2 graphic organizers by writing or drawing 6

characteristics related to a community and 6 characteristics related to a neighborhood.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.Students must be able to identify 6 different characteristics in their community and 6 different

characteristics in their neighborhood. Using the graphic organizers will show if students

understand the description of neighborhoods & communities as places where people live, workand play.

    I. Closure:

Review/Assess Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Neighborhoods (p. 39)Ask students to share their graphic organizers, explaining what one characteristic they wrote or

    drew identified a neighborhood and/or a community.

    J. Reflection:

    1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

The easiest lesson for me to teach will be the use of the community map to visually show

my students places that people live, work and play.

    2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of this lesson will be explaining how a neighborhood fits into a

    community.

    3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?I will extend this lesson using Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Neighborhoodsextend lesson 2, Maggie Cervantes (p. 4041).

    4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? To help students who dont grasp the concepts, I would extend the study to include the

challenge practice on the bottom of page 37. This challenge includes using internet

resources to find maps of our community, giving them a realistic visual of their own

community. I would again ask the group discussion questions to the entire class, letting them

point out the answers on the community pictures.

    5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? This lesson went hand in hand with the 2

ndgrade state standard, identifying every aspect of

communities and neighborhoods. I wouldnt change anything about this lesson.

    6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part of this lesson plan, for me, was finding a lesson plan to go with the

NV State Social Studies Standard that I chose. Several of the lessons for 2nd

    grade

    overlapped with the state standard.
