Carrier’s Eddy Current Testing service is an accurate, non-destructive and precise method of analyzing your air conditioning and refrigeration equipment’s heat exchangertubes. This testing will identify almost all common problemsthat cause heat exchanger tube leaks — problems that can lead to major repair or replacement requirements.

EDDY CURRENT TESTINGCarrier’s Eddy Current Testing service is a precise inspection of the internal condition ofyour air conditioning and refrigeration equip-ment’s heat exchanger tubes. These tests helpidentify minor tube problems and their causesbefore they lead to serious damage. The process is as follows:

• An inspection probe is inserted into the heat exchanger tube

• The probe creates a magnetic field, which causes electrical disturbances in the tube, called eddy currents

• Any tube defects alter the shape of the eddy current field and show up on a plotting scope attached to the probe

• Carrier’s certified technicians analyze this data to identify pits, cracks, gouges, bulges, worn areas and other tube defects

We provide you with a detailed report, including:

• Evaluation data

• Analysis of the causes of any problems

• Recommendations for corrective action and long-range service solutions

Eddy current test results can also be comparedfrom year to year to help determine rates oftube deterioration for effective predictive andpreventive maintenance. Eddy current testingcan be done quickly with minimal downtime or, if scheduled during the “off” season, with no disruption at all.
