Your pet has a fentanyl patch attached to the skin. This patch slowly releases pain controlling medication for 72 hours.

Your pet may be sleepy during this time. Because fentanyl is a controlled substance, we need to remove the patch in 72

hours and dispose of it ourselves to complete our records. lf the patch comes off at home, please flush it down the toilet

and call us to let us know. ll your pet seems painful or is unusually sedate, call us.

We have sent an antibiotic home with your pet today. Please give it according to the instructions on the label. All

antibiotics have the potential to cause stomach upset. You may notice a decreased appetite or diarrhea. lf this occurs

please continue the antibiotic, but call us. lf you notice vomiting, try giving the antibiotic with food. lf the vomitingclntinues, call us right away so that we may prescribe a ditferent drug.

Your pet has been given a drug called a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID). This category of drugs includesproducts such as aspirin and ibuprofen. All NSAIDs have the potential to cause serious side effects. These includegastrointestinal upset and ulceration, liver disease and kidney disease. These products are more common among olderpels who may already have compromised organ function. ln order to minimize side effects, we have prescribed one of thesafest NSAID drugs which is more selective towards positive etfects - aspirin and ibuprofen are not selective in this regard

and can be very dangerous to pets. We also recommend regular laboratory evaluation of older pets on NSAID drugs. lf you

notice any inappetance, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in the stool, black or tarry stool, increased thirst or increased urinationwhile your pet is on this medication, please stop the drug and advise us immediately.

One of the medications we are sending home today is a chewable product. This is meant to taste good so your pet will

eat it readily. lt is very important that you keep this medication stored so that pets and children cannot get to it. Animals

have been known to crawl up on the counter to access these yummy medicines. lf an animal or child eats all of themedication at once it could be fatal! Please be careful!
