Fisher ED, EAD, and EDRSliding-Stem Control ValvesFisher ED, EAD, and EDR single-port control valvesshown in figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 have balanced valveplugs, cage guiding, and metal-to-metal seating forall general applications over a wide range of processpressure drops and temperatures. These generalpurpose, sliding-stem valves are used for eitherthrottling or on-off control of a wide variety of liquidsand gases.
The Fisher ED product line is available for a widerange of applications, including sulfide and chloridestress-cracking environments common to the oil andgas production industries. To discuss availableconstructions, contact your Emerson ProcessManagement sales office and include the applicablecodes and standards required for theseenvironments.
The easy-e Valve Family
ED, EAD, and EDR valves are part of the versatileeasy-e family of Fisher industrial control valves.easy-e valves share the following characteristics:
 Multiple trim material choices
Trim temperature capability with standard metalseats to 427C (800F)
 FGM gaskets
Interchangeable, restricted-capacity trims andfull-size trims match variable process flow demands
Different cage/plug styles provide particularflow characteristics for highly-specializedapplications. The standard cage comes in threedifferent flow characteristics:
 quick-opening linear equal percentage

Specifications 39. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Features Compliance with the Clean Air Act—Optional
ENVIRO-SEAL packing systems (figure 7) providean improved stem seal to help prevent the loss ofprocess fluid. The ENVIRO-SEAL packing systemsfeature PTFE, Graphite ULF, or Duplex packing withlive-loading for reduced packing maintenance.
Valve Plug Stability— Rugged cage guidingprovides high valve plug stability, which reducesvibration and mechanical noise.
More Flow Capacity for Initial Investment—Streamlined flow passages in the the ED, EAD, andEDR valves provide excellent capacities and flow.
Balanced Valve Plug Construction—Balanced valve plug construction permits use ofsmaller, lower-cost Fisher actuators. Also, triminventory costs are cut because dimensionalstandardization permits use of most standard easy-etrim parts.
High-Temperature Capability with Class IVor Class V Shutoff—Use of multiple graphite pistonrings (figure 2) permit Class IV shutoff up to 593C(1100F).Use of C-seal trim (see figure 6) permits Class Vshutoff up to 593C (1100F).
Compliance with European Standards—Valves are available with dimensions specified byEN/DIN standards. See figure 14.
Sour Service Capability— Unless otherwisenoted, references are to NACE MR0175-2002.Optional materials are available to meet NACEMR0103 and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156. Materialrequirements under these standards vary by editionand year of issue; the specific standard must bespecified.
Operating Economy—Increased wearresistance provided by standard hardened stainlesssteel trim means long service life.
Maintenance Economy—The valve body canstay in the pipeline during removal of trim parts. TheEDR valve also features easy valve access withoutremoving the actuator.

C-seal Trim DescriptionC-seal trim is available for valves with port diametersfrom 2.875 inches through 8 inches.
With C-seal trim, a balanced valve can achievehigh-temperature, Class V shutoff. Because theC-seal plug seal is formed from metal (N07718nickel alloy) rather than an elastomer, a valveequipped with the C-seal trim can be applied inprocesses with a fluid temperature of up to 593C(1100F).
ENVIRO-SEAL and HIGH-SEAL Packing SystemsENVIRO-SEAL and HIGH-SEAL packing systemsoffer exceptional sealing capabilities. They easilyinstall in your existing valves or can be purchasedwith new valves. These systems may help preventthe loss of process fluid. The long operational lifeand reliability of these systems also reduces yourmaintenance costs and downtime.
For applications requiring compliance withenvironmental protection regulations, the uniqueFisher ENVIRO-SEAL packing system (figure 7) anda unique ENVIRO-SEAL bellows seal system (figure 8) are offered. The emission control packingsystem keeps emission concentrations below theEPA 100 ppm requirement.
For an excellent stem seal in applications that arenot environmentally-sensitive, the Fisher HIGH-SEALGraphite ULF packing system (figure 7) is offered. The HIGH-SEAL packing system provides excellentsealing at pressure/temperature ratings beyondENVIRO-SEAL limits. ENVIRO-SEAL systems mayalso be applied for excellent stem sealing in higherpressure/temperature applications not requiring EPAcompliance.
ENVIRO-SEAL packing systems, available withPTFE, Graphite ULF, or Duplex packing, and theHIGH-SEAL packing systems, Graphite ULF andgraphite composite, feature live-loading and uniquepacking-ring arrangements for long-term, consistentsealing performance.

Graphite ULF1. These in-body process temperatures assume an outside, ambient temperature of 21C (70F) and no insulation on the bonnet. When using any packing at low process temperatures,a cast extension bonnet may have to be used to prevent packing damage which could result from the formation of valve stem frost. Material selection for trim and other components willalso be limiting factors.

Level D exhibits an equal percentage characteristic for the first 38 mm (1.5 inches) of travel, then linear characteristic.3. This coefficient is minimum rather than 10% open. Valves should not be required to throttle at less than the specified minimum coefficient for an extended period of time. Erosiondamage to the valve may result.
