Who is AAEDC
The mission of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation is to
support business and serve as a catalyst for business growth in Anne Arundel
County thereby increasing job opportunities, expanding the tax base and
improving quality of life.
To accomplish its mission, AAEDC:
Recruits new businesses to locate in Anne Arundel County and assists in the expansion of
existing businesses
Anticipates and addresses workforce development needs of the county's business
community
Promotes Anne Arundel County as a premier location for business
Provides advocacy for Anne Arundel County businesses undergoing the regulatory and
approval process
Provides financing assistance to county businesses
Incentivizes redevelopment and revitalization along older commercial corridors
Promotes technology development and attracts start-up ventures through Anne Arundel
County's technology incubator, the Chesapeake Innovation Center
Promotes agriculture development and expands markets for agri-business

Anne Arundel County Initiatives Clarify and expedite the development review process
AAEDC will meet with County agencies and developers to resolve issues
quickly and efficiently
County Agencies are meeting with developers up to three times a week if necessary
Each project is assigned an “ombudsman” from AAEDC to closely monitor and guide the
project all the way through the process
Agencies and the AAEDC now compile a monthly priorities projects report to track progress
on key projects/shared with the County Executive’s office
County Agencies working on a new guidebook for the development and
permitting processes
Will be accessible on the county website
Each of the agency websites will provide a clear, step-by-step guide to each planning review
process and each permit process
Goals
Quicker process time for projects
Reducing review time
Help businesses understand their responsibilities
Understand how the County can help them resolve issues

Anne Arundel County’s unemployment rate is at 5.4% in
November 2013, same as the prior year, .2% lower than
tis time last year.
The County’s unemployment rate continues to be below
that of Maryland and the U.S.
The County’s resident employment is up 0.91% from
285,895 to 288,495 over the last year (excluding
National Security Agency employees).
The County added 12,860 jobs over the last year, a
5.4% increase compared to 1.4% increase for Maryland
and 1.6% increase for the U.S.
The County’s Federal sector employment contracted
.5% and private sector employment grew 4.2%
The County’s 2012 Personal Income was up 4.1% from
2011, up 3.5% for Maryland and up 4.1% for the U.S.
The County’s Per Capita Personal Income in 2012 was
at $59,711, 136.5% of the national average and 110.9%
of Maryland.
The County’s median household income in 2012 was
$89,179, approximately $18,000 higher than Maryland
and $37,000 higher than the U.S.

The housing market has been improving over the last year
Single family home sales are up 15.2% from a year ago, with an average selling price of
$360,177 or 0.86% higher than in the previous year
Condominium average selling price was $271,120 in November 2013, 24.9% higher than the
previous year

Commercial Office Market
In 4th Quarter of 2013, commercial office vacancy rate was at 11.5% for the County, 0.4%
higher than the prior year
The County’s office vacancy rate was slightly lower than the Baltimore-Towson Metro area
rate at 11.6% and lower than the U.S. at 16.9%

Tourism Industry
5.9 million people visited Anne Arundel County in 2012
Anne Arundel County ranks number one in the State for tourism

Visitors to Anne Arundel County spent $3.3 billion while at the County,
accounting for 22% of the State’s tourism industry sales, a 3.5% increase over
the previous year

Hotel Tax collections were $16.0 million in FY2013, a 5.8% increase over the
prior year. The projected total for FY2014 is about $13.7 million. The County
currently has 10,608 hotel rooms in 86 properties
