School Tour

Aim: To arouse students’ interest and awareness on

environmental sustainability by providing students with

a chance to have first-hand business decision-making

experience in a profit-driven, ever-changing society.

Format: A tailor-made interactive simulation workshop

delivered by Organizing Committee Members who went

AIESEC exchange on the issue of Sustainability abroad

Rules: Around 30 to 40 students were divided into 6

groups, starting their own business journey. Students were

asked to make a wise choice of investments on different

types of industries so as to reap a handsome profit. As

these entrepreneurs expanded their business, the carbon

concentration level, in the unit of PPM, ominously rises to

different extents depending on the participants‘ investment

choices. Finally, the end of world took place when this level

exceeded that which the earth could tolerate.

Message of the game: This game also brought an

imminent message to the students that we have to act fast

to save the environment before it is too late. Regardless of

the amount of wealth accumulated, nothing could one gain

when the end of world finally befalls.

Feedback: This simulation game received very positive

feedback from both students and teachers as it successfully

reflected the dilemma between economic development and

environmental conservation in reality.

Highlights - Global Green Village

AIESEC believe ‗exchange‘ could broaden youth horizons to nurture and empower

them to be global future leaders so as to bring positive impact to the society. Environmental

Sustainability is a global issue which affects every single individual on the planet. As a global

citizen and future pillar, to lead a sustainable tomorrow, we need to have a global perspective

of this global issue.

Through Global Green Village, we aim to provide a platform for delegates in different

countries to share environmental issues / practices and also cultures with each other, so that

they could have a global view of the current environmental situation and also learn from the

good cases practices of the other countries which they could adopt in their home countries.

International Conference

On the last day of the conference, all participants

poured out their creativity and green knowledge in

the Conference Competition — Green Leaders‘

Challenge. Cooperating with WWF, the theme of the

challenge is ‗How to extend Earth Hour‘.

Local/International delegates had chance to work

hand in hand to come up an action-plan of a public

awareness campaign to extend Earth Hour into

everyday life.

The first-round judging panel was impressed by

the high quality presentation on the constraint of

limited time. Some groups enchanted the judges with

pithy witty slogans, prototypes of their ideas and

attractive decorations which were made solely of re-

used materials,

A number of groups addressed the problem of

food waste, showing that they were able to utilize

their knowledge acquired during the conference to

create their own positive impact. Judges were

impressed with the conscientiousness of all groups.

Mr.Hamilton Le (President of AIESEC Hong Kong), Patrick Ho (Business Engagement

Leader of Climate, WWF) and Mr Kam Yiu Kuen (Secretary of PolyU Campus Sustainability

Committee, Head of Health, Safety and Environment) to be our judges. During Q&A

sessions, they led delegates to think about the practical feasibility issues and also provided

enlightening advices on their plan to aware the public.

Finally, the championship came to Group R‘s ―SUMM3R‖, a project aiming to educate young

children about the 3Rs through various means. Their proposal is concrete to have suggested

promotional strategies, estimated impact and feasibility analysis. Meanwhile, the other groups

were proud of their performance and also got inspired by the creative and feasible action plans of

other groups.

Words from Delegates

ECOLITY2012 gave me a spectacular view that shows how we are able to change the world in a good way even our acts seem to be really small. Now I believe that we can become one to make the world greener and a more livable place. At ECOLITY2012 Conference, we had chance to meet and discuss issues of sustainability with people from in different corners of the world while we had so much fun in the sessions.

--- Ibrahim Gorgec, Turkish Exchange Student of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Green Touch (Eco-tour) provided me the opportunity to visit the lesser known areas of Hong Kong and delight in the natural beauty of the country. Guided by tour guide of Walk Hong Kong, I know much about the ecology and environmental situation of Hong Kong.

--- James Atkinson, University of Ulster, UK

To me, ECOLITY2012 is a dreaming journey. Thanks to the Global Video Campaign, I was so motivated and delighted to be awarded to come to Hong Kong for attending the International Conference in which I absorbed a lot from many high profile guest-speakers. ECOLITY2012 and its campaigns not only enabled my individual determination but also unleashed green leadership in youth.

ECOLITY2012 refreshed my view about environment and environmental protection. During the conference, through sessions delivered by experts from various industries, I was able to know some inside stories and see those delicate connections among them, which left me with lots of thoughts. Also thanks to ECOLITY2012, I had chance to work hand in hand with delegates around the world and build long-lasting friendship with them!

--- Dora Lam, Central South University, Changsha

ECOLITY2012 was mind-blowing and I never expected the immensity of the whole program to have such a tremendous impact on my life. This conference has not only realigned my way of life but it has empowered me to spread the awareness on living sustainably.

--- Daniel Dinesh Thomas, Brickfields Asia College, Malaysia

ECOLITY2012 made me think more about sustainability in our real life. I especially like the opportunity that I could talk to various speakers in workshop and panel talk, as well as work with a group which packed with different ages and nationalities.

--- Seyeon An, Dongduk Women ‘s University, Korea

ECOLITY 2012 provided me a cross-border interaction experience which equipped and motivated me to contribute to our sustainable society in the future. In Global Green Village which I like the most, delegates from different countries enjoyed the time discussing environmental issue in their homeland, while sharing their unique culture with each other.
