Welcome to Northfield Ecocentre’s December newsletter. We end the year with a lot to celebrate - the planting of 515 new trees, distribution of local fruit to children’s centres, featuring on BBC Midlands Today, lots of hard work on our new community garden, the start of the Green Deal and lots more! December Newsletter 2012 @northfieldeco Seasons greetings, www.facebook.com/northfieldecocentre Ecocentre on TV! We are planting 515 additional fruit trees and broad leaf whips on 7 new sites in South Birmingham . Look out for them at Manor Farm Park, Woodgate Valley Park, Leyhill Park, Oddingley Hall, Victoria School, Rubery Nursery and Northfield Quaker Meeting House. That’s a total of 1072 trees so far! Our target is to plant 1400 trees, so if you would like an orchard now is the time to get in touch before it’s too late. Over the next few years these will blossom and develop fruit for the local community to pick and eat. DamienBennett!

Hello everybody my name is Damien and I am the new apprentice at Northfield Ecocentre. My primary role at the Ecocentre is working on the community food growing project,Incredible Edible Northfield. I also assist with the current day to day running by providing anyassistance that I can. I am thoroughly enjoying my time here as it is a wonderful workenvironment and the staff are always friendly and welcoming.

With the food growing project at Masefield Community Garden I help local volunteers find out how togrow their own food. I work with the gardening group that comes to the Ecocentre every Thursdaymorning. With the assistance of the Ecocentre I am hoping to further my hands on skills in gardeningand my knowledge of horticulture. Recently I have gained a First aid certificate supported by theEcocentre and am working towards a City and Guilds qualification in Energy Awareness.
