ECO SHED 2 – Recycled Building Report
The Ecoshed 2 building, developed by Shape Architecture Ltd. , and occupying
an important space in a community Greater London park, is a good example of
reduced energy architectural style in the public sphere.
Previously, Shape Architects in London had been commissioned by the
Hammersmith Community Gardens Association to create the Ecoshed 1 building
in Godolphin Park. Much like its Like his older sibling, the Ecoshed 2 will be
chiefly used for storage and community support services, as well as providing
conference space. Much like its predecessor, the Ecoshed 2 building is to provide space for gatherings,
storage, and other support activities. Furthermore, the development of the Ecoshed 2 building is
probably to help develop the viewpoint behind the Ecoshed 1, even though in somewhat more open
setting. Once again, the contractors selected to handle this job were Ecolibrium Solutions, in
cooperation with architectural engineer Kevin Lyons, based in the architectural firm Lyons O'Neill.
Carbon Hub Consultants were commissioned to track the carbon footprint of this new project. Most of
the work desired took place off website, at Ecolibrium's premises.
This guaranteed that journeys to and from your website were stored to the absolute minimum and that
the final results were air tight and of the highest quality. As for the delivery of the building to its final
site, a somewhat elaborate procedure was required. Railway tracks were laid out across Godolphin
Park, and these served to transfer the structure from the delivery point to the building foundations. The
roof form of the first Ecoshed is stunning, having as it does a storage unit slung from its belly and beingended in Sedum. The goal was to preserve the same roof concept for the Ecoshed 2 building. The
EcoShed's 2 roofing features a striking design that will be
much more evident as plants are added to the building's
steel fence. Later on, greening will be completed once
more on the building's roof. The primary feature of the
new Ecoshed's building will be its rubble roof, which will be
converted into an attractive living roof. The rubble roof
was mostly built out of excavated materials from local
damaged properties. It is expected that with time, the
bricks used in the construction will become gradually softer
and greener.
As a foundation for horticulture and educational activities the new Ecoshed 2 may be used mostly. As
such, the building will take advantage of its appropriate overall green image. The positioning of a
skylight within the building's rubble roof is yet another special aspect of the Ecoshed 2. This relatively
simple idea provides an interesting finishing touch to the building. The designers responsible of the

Ecoshed 2 wanted to reduce construction waste by recycling as much as they
could of the resulting waste. The building's roofing is probable to keep
changing as birds drop seeds on its green surface and new plants develop.
Following the concept behind Ecoshed 1, the terrace and partitions of
Ecoshed 2 also have been constructed with timber. The form of the timber
deck is yet another of the building's highlights. To complete its total eco-
friendly motif, the Ecoshed's 2 interior has been created out of recycled and re-used materials, such as
kitchen doors and recycled sinks and flooring. The basic agreement is the fact that the new Ecoshed
building is an effective evolution of the architectural concept behind Ecoshed 1.
