ECLIPSES
An eclipse is an astronomical event that occurs when one celestial object moves into the shadow of another. When an eclipse occurs within a stellar system, such as the Solar System, it forms a type of syzygy—the alignment of three or more celestial bodies in the same gravitational system along a straight line.

ECLIPSES
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF ECLIPSES:1. SOLAR ECLIPSE2. LUNAR ECLIPSE

SOLAR ECLIPSE
In a solar eclipse, the moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. When this happens, part of the Sun's light is blocked. The sky slowly gets dark as the moon moves in front of the Sun. When the moon and Sun are in a perfect line, it is called a total eclipse. These are very rare. Most people only see one in their lifetime.

LUNAR ECLIPSE
A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the Sun and the moon, blocking part of the Sun's light from reaching the moon. During a lunar eclipse, you will see the Earth's shadow on the moon.

PARTIAL ECLIPSES
BUT SOMETIMES ,THERE ARE ECLIPSES THAT THE MOON CAN STILL BE SEEN. THEY ARE CALLED: PARTIAL ECLIPSE.
![Page 14: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
PARTIAL LUNAR ECLIPSE
IS LIKE A LUNAR ECLIPSE BUT THE MOON CAN STILL BE SEEN.
![Page 15: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
IS LIKE A SOLAR ECLIPSE BUT THE MOON DOES NOT FULLY COVER THE SUN.
![Page 16: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
FACTS
IN ONE CALENDAR YEAR, THE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ECLIPSES IS 4 SOLAR AND 3 LUNAR ECLIPSES.
THE LONGEST DURATION FOR A TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IS 7.5 MINUTES.
ONLY PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE CAN BE OBSERBED FROM THE NORTH AND SOUTH POLES.
![Page 17: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
FACTS
Local animals and birds often prepare for sleep or behave confusedly during a total solar eclipse. Local temperatures often drop 20 degrees or more near totality.
During the five thousand year period 2000 BCE to 3000 CE, planet Earth experiences 11,898 solar eclipses.

DO ECLIPSES AFFECT HUMANS?
THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT ECLIPSES HAVE ANY PHYSICAL EFFECT ON HUMANS. HOWEVER, ECLIPSES HAS ALWAYS BEEN CAPABLE OF PRODUCING PROFOUND PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS.
![Page 19: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
DO ECLIPSES ONLY OCCUR ON EARTH?
No. Whenever there are large moons, there can be eclipses. Space probes routinely photograph solar eclipses on Jupiter, when one of the Jovian moons casts its shadow on the giant planet. But since there is almost certainly no intelligent life on Jupiter (and the atmosphere would be too thick to see anything anyway) there is nobody there to appreciate the sight.
If the moon is too small, it cannot cause eclipses. The moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, are very small, and do not cast a shadow on Mars even when the moon comes between the Sun and Mars.

TIDES
IT HAPPENS WHEN THE WATERS OF THE EARTH’S OCEANS FALL AND RISE DURING THE DAY. THAT IS BECAUSE THE WATER IS PULLED BY THE GRAVITY OF THE SUN AND THE MOON.
![Page 21: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
TIDES
THERE ARE TWO KINDS:1. HIGH TIDE2. LOW TIDE
![Page 22: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
TIDAL RANGE
In many places there are two high tides and two low tides in each twenty-four hours, while in others there may be only one high and one low tides, around the globe are complicated.
![Page 23: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
TIDAL POWER
Where there is a great difference between the high and the low tides, the movement of the water can be used as a source of electric power. Adam or barrier may be built across a tidal mouth of a river. Sliding gates are opened in the barrier to allow the tide in, then closed at high tide.
![Page 24: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
SPRING TIDES
When the moon is full or new, the gravitational pull of the moon and sun are combined. At these times, the high tides are very high and the low tides are very low.
![Page 25: Eclipses and tides](https://reader038.fdocuments.us/reader038/viewer/2022102706/558e58ba1a28ab446e8b472f/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)

NEAP TIDE
During the moon's quarterphases the sun and moon work at right angles, causing the bulges to cancel each other. The result is a smaller difference between high and low tides and is known as a neap tide.

ANSWER TO QUESTION # 4
A lunar eclipse is an eclipse of the Moon rather than the Sun. It happens when the Moon passes through Earth's shadow. This is only possible when the Moon is in the Full Moon phase. While, a solar eclipse is an eclipse of the Sun. It happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. This is only possible when the Moon is in the New Moon phase.
