In the scripture reference found in Galatians 3:28 the apostle Paul reminds members of their community: “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ.” Since we are all called to live as one, we are focusing our attention on ways we can eliminate and reduce homelessness in Metropolitan Atlanta. Therefore we are pleased to announce that our preacher for Sunday is Dr. Joan Brown Campbell, Director of Religion at Chautauqua Institution. Her work with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. serves as a testament to her commitment to promote justice and equality in our world. She has also authored a book entitled, “Living Into Hope: A Call to Spiritual Action for Such a Time as This.” On Saturday the Urban Ministry Conference will bring together service providers from throughout metropolitan Atlanta to promote a systemic approach for ending homelessness. that we’re not taking these sacred things as seriously as we could. Nope; they look to you and see the people they want to grown into. Whether you mean to be or not, whether you realize it or not, you are their heroes, and they want to be just like you. That’s one of the reasons they’re so excited about First communion – now they get to be a little more like you. On Jan. 27th, we’ll explore together what it means to be a hero of the faith, as we walk alongside the next generation as they take this great step in their own faith.

his invisibility results from others simply not seeing him. he goes through days largely unnoticed. Though a gifted public speaker and graduate of a prestigious college, he feels unseen, unknown and unvalued. Because of this, he slowly starts hiding from the world. Many of us know the experience of being overlooked. One of humanity’s deepest needs is to be known and appreciated, and this need starts early. Ask children what they want to be when they grow up, and they’ll often respond with careers such as president, doctor, or an NBA player. I’ve never heard a child aspire to work in a large office with 10,000 others where they have a small 4 by 4 cubicle. As we grow older, if this need to be known is not met in christ, we pursue a wide range of options to fill that void. Yet, Christ knows us intimately and fully and asks us to know others in the same way. Join us in 11:15 am worship on Sunday, January 27 as we explore invisibility and the joys of being known and knowing one another well.
