Careers in Early Childhood Education
CENTER DIRECTOR Directors are responsible for overseeing the staff in
day to day activities. They could be responsible for keeping track of tuition
and attendance. Directors are also in charge of hiring and firing their
staff. They review lesson plans that teachers plan on
implementing and give suggestions. Directors are also responsible for ensuring state
guidelines. Directors are preferred to have an Associates degree
or higher, with management experience.

PRESCHOOL TEACHERTEACH AGES 2- 5 YEARS OLD
They plan and teach developmentally appropriate lessons based off of the centers curriculum.
They are there to cater the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each child.
To ensure communication they should, report progress of children to parents through progress folders, daily sheets, and/or conferences.
They are responsible for their classroom in a matter that goes along with the programs philosophy.
Preschool teachers are preferred to be working towards their degree, or have their degree already.

RESOURCE AND REFERRAL EMPLOYEE
Resource and Referral centers provide families with information on how to evaluate a child care center.
They also provide child care providers with tools on how to become more educated and skilled in the field.
They also provide the community with essential information on how to make better decisions when it comes to educating youth.
These employees usually have a four year degree in education or human services.

KINDERGARTEN TEACHER The teacher teaches and implements activities
that promote language, social studies, reading, writing, math, social, and cognitive skills that prepare the child for their elementary school experience.
They are encouraged to implement hands on activities and creative play.
From kindergarten on, the teacher is required to prepare the students for higher grade levels.
The profession requires a bachelors degree or higher to teach kindergarten and above. They also must obtain a state teaching license.

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES CASE MANAGERS
Child Protective services responds to abused or neglected children.
Case managers work with families to set goals, work towards those goals, and close the case when goals are met. This may include taking the abused child for a period of time or forever, being placed in a more stable home.
Often the goals focus on maximizing children's safety and minimizing their risk of harm.
Case managers are required to have a four year degree in human services or a related field, and they must obtain a certificate.

MY GOALS IN THIS FIELD
Short Term Goals- I will earn my Associates in early childhood education, this semester, while working as a preschool teacher.
Long Term Goals- Earn my Bachelors in child development, from Ball State. I will take my case manager certificate exam, and become a case manager for CASA or Child Protective Services, within four years.
