On Pulau Bukom, an island located about 30 minutes from Singapore an Ethylene
Cracker installation with a capacity of 8000,000 ton per year and a Mono Ethylene
Glycol plant with an annual production of 750,000 ton were to be established. After
DMC has provided a concept study in 2006 the client requested DMC to carry out the
Detailed Design of the marine facilities.
Project Description
The scope of the works consists of the following
structures: Unloading quay, Ro-Ro quay wall and
2 passenger ferry terminals with floating jetties.
The facilities are required for the construction of
the petro-chemical plant and must thus comply
with special requirements on loadings and
geometry.
Construction of these marine facilities is critical
to the plant development and a fast track design
schedule has been adopted. Concept designs
have been developed based on the fact that the
existing island revetment could not be modified.
For the unloading quay which serves deep draft
seagoing vessels this has resulted in an anchored
steel combi-wall structure with deck extension
on piles. The deck has been designed for high
vertical loads of 300kN/m2 to receive the 107m
long Propylene Fractionation Column of 1,000
ton weight. Due to the required low deck level of
the quay, large parts of the platform substruc-
ture are in the tidal zone, so that prefabricated
concrete elements have been utilized as much as
possible.
The Ro-Ro structure which serves heavy load
barges consists of a free-standing steel combi-
wall structure. Both structures have heavy duty
concrete paving on the shore side.
The passenger terminals include mooring
pontoons with mooring piles and steel access
bridges.
Role DMC
DMC has prepared Concept Designs and
developed these further into construction plans
for all steel concrete and piling works. On-site
design assistance has been provided for the
contractor.
