What is the idea behind ECAR?

Arab countries are in different states with respect to economicdevelopment. A common feature, though, is the combinationof badly designed institutions and an inadequately trainedloeal workforce - two factors that represent obstacles to enteringa path of sustainable economic development.

ECAR aims at training economists who will be able to analysecurrent economic conditions in the Arab region and to employtheir edueation to contribute to potential solution concepts.

Supplementing the focus on economic edueation is an emphasison the conveyance of intercultural awareness. Direct experienceof one's subject of study is crucial and therefore ECAR isdesigned as a joint international Master's programme withlectures taking place in Damascus as weil as in Marburg.
