osWego stAte this seAsonThe Lakers enter this weekend of play with a 10-4-1 overall record and a 6-1-1 record in ECAC West competition, putting them one point ahead of EC in the conference standings. Oswego State is coming off consecu-tive 3-0 shutout victories over Buffalo State on January 18th and 19th, their fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Defense has been key for the Lakers this season as they rank second in the country in scoring defense, allowing only 1.20 goals per game.

lAkeRs to WAtChThe Oswego State offense is a balanced attack as all but one skater has recorded a point this season for the Lakers. Melissa Seamont is the only player with double digit points with 10 on the year. Seamont is tied for the team lead with five goals while also chipping in five assists. The assist leader is Ashley Lyman, who has six through 15 games.

oPtions in netOn the defensive end, Elmira could see any one of the three Laker goal-tenders who have seen time this season, but all signs point to Catherine Cote starting between the pipes. The senior has recorded the most min-utes of the three goaltenders (481) and holds a 1.25 goals against average, which ranks her third in the country. Cote also has three of the team’s six shutouts. The other two goaltenders, Bridget Smith and Tori Trovato, hold a combined 5-1-1 record while holding a 0.99 goals against average.

title deFenseThis is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champi-ons. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edi-tion of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home.

The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national champion-ship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.

neW usCho PollThe top four stayed the same in the most recent USCHO poll, with the Soaring Eagles coming in at number three. EC will have the opportunity to play against No. 1 Plattsburgh State in a couple weeks.
