Congratulations to Ocean who will celebrate his 12 th Birthday on Monday. We wish you lots of fun from everyone at school! Reminders & snippets HATS HATS HATS To protect your children, we expect everyone to wear a wide brimmed sunhat during this term. Caps are not suitable. TRIATHLON CLUB TUESDAY LUNCHTIMES STARTING NEXT WEEK Glenn will begin training students for the Weetbix Tryathlon. You do not have to enter the Tryathlon to be a part of the club! Bring along your bike, togs and running shoes on Tuesday to join up. WELCOME Otene joins us in Room 1 this week – Welcome Otene, we hope you love it here at Ngatimoti School! WOW! another overwhelmingly successful Festival! Thank you all so much for the part (or parts!) you played in this and for your incredible generosity in either time or goods, or both! Special thanks to those who organized an area, coordinating not only their team but whatever was needed, as well as setting up and packing up your area. Huge thanks must go to the new parents who so cheerfully volunteered to take on a lead role this year. Emma and your extended family – the café was superb! Errilyn and your family – the White Elephant was a mammoth success! Alistair & Emma and team – the pig spit was spectacular! From cute baby animals, plants, wild foods and the Silent Auction, our Festival offers lots of variety, and this is only possible when everyone pitches in. Many people put in over and above their fair share, and this is hugely appreciated. To those people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, parking, collecting or counting money, cleaning, recycling, coordinating, advertising, fetching and carrying – you were the backbone of the Festival! Thank you again to everyone who was able to contribute this year, we are expecting that at final count up we will have made approximately $40,000 profit. Amazing! There is a suggestions box in the office (called Amanda) so if anybody has ideas for what they would like some of the money to be spent on, please write these down and pop them into the office. We can’t make any promises at this stage but we do ensure student learning in its widest sense is central to all decisions. We would also love to hear your reflections on how you think the particular area you worked in went on the day; what went well, and which aspects not so well – remember to be constructive with your criticisms, and practical with your suggestions; we will hear them anyway through the valley vine, however we would rather hear them directly! Scarecrow results: The winner of this year’s scarecrow competition was Tui G and family, for a scarecrow which the judge said just exuded a real sense of joy. The scarecrows created by Chase, Jack & Max, Elvie, Henry & Nina were all awarded close second prizes! ‘Most original’ went to Arabella’s horse, and ‘most eye-catching’ went to the SWAG scarecrow on Westbank Road. Great efforts everyone!! Cake competition results: The cake competition was judged by Jester House’s executive chef, Catherine C. She awarded first prize to a chocolate gateau that not only looked very appealing, but was deliciously composed with chocolate mousse in the centre and fresh cream on top. This was made by Joanne K. Second prize went to a delicious and unique cake with a great texture and yummy coconut topping, made by the Kiddle family. Third prize went to Bo C, for a chocolate overload cake that was beautifully moist and had fantastic icing. For this to happen we rely on our parents group - i.e. all parents – to bake a cake, muffins or slices and bring them in to serve on Friday lunchtime.
