Since the 2000-01 season the Soaring Eagles have had mild success in home-openers as they have gone 5-8. The last time the Purple and Gold have won their first home game was against Fredonia State on November 15th of the 2009-10 campaign when EC came out on top, 83-77. SUCCESS IN SPEIDEL Last season the Purple and Gold found a lot more success in their home gymnasium than on the road as the men went 5-6. Their high- est scoring game of the 2012-13 season was at home when they posted 88 points in their 88-62 win over Hartwick College on January 25th of last season. LEADING THE PACK Despite big nights from different players, Neil Randolph ’15 has been the most consistent source of offense for Elmira, averaging 15.7 points per game. Randolph led the Soaring Eagles in the 63-51 road loss against Cortland State on Tuesday night with team-highs of 14 points and seven rebounds. BIG NIGHTS In Elmira’s first game of the season, Josh Keys ’14 hit a career-high eight three-pointers, totaling 24 points on the night. In the second game of the season big-man David Borelli ’15 had the best night of his career posting his first career double-double after notching 19 points and 14 rebounds, both career highs. Home openerSaturday’s game against Hilbert College marks the first game of the season played in Speidel Gymnasium. BeSt oF tHe reStWith Randoph, Keys and Borelli claiming 108 of the team’s 194 points scored this season, Derrick Vogel ’14, Nick Ceseare ’16 and Kurt Dutcher ’14 are doing their best to fill in the rest. This trio has combined to post 57 of the team’s remaining 86 points so far this season and also have combined to tally 14 of the team’s 38 assists so far this season through the first three games.

ranking in tHe empire 8Randolph is in second place in free throw percentage after making nine of 10 free throws so far this season while Keys is second in the E8 in three-point field goals made per game with 3.3. Vogel is fifth overall in assists per game with 3.3 and is second in assist-to-turnover ratio with 3.3 a game.

all-time vS. HilBertThese two teams faced each other for the first time ever last season, result-ing in a Hilbert victory, 71-66.

Scouting HilBertHilbert is 3-0 with wins against Alfred State College, Utica College and Houghton College. The Hawks are outscoring their opponents by an aver-age of 26.4 points. Hilbert started the season in the Hilbert Tip-Off Tour-nament where they defeated Alfred State 93-39, then went on to defeat Utica in the Championship game 88-80. Their most recent victory came against Houghton, defeating the Highlanders 73-56.

HilBert’S playerS to watcHJerame Owens leads the Hawks in scoring after three games, averaging 18.3 points per game. He was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Week after his performance against Utica where he recorded 29 points, took down 20 boards, had five assists and blocked three shots. Trevor Stark is also having a great season so far averaging 15 points, 2.7 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game.

all-time vS. FredoniaElmira holds the edge in the all-time series record between these two teams at 7-5. Despite EC’s lead, Fredonia has won the previous three matchups.

coacH torgalSki vS. FredoniaSince joining Elmira in 2008, Head Coach Randie Torgalski has posted a 1-3 record against Fredonia. After defeating the Blue Devils 83-77 in the 2009-10 season, his teams have not won in the last three meetings.

Scouting FredoniaFredonia is now 1-2 on the year after losing back-to-back games to Naza-reth College and Penn State Behrend. The Blue Devils started their sea-son at the Nazareth Tip-Off Tournament where they won the first game against Union 98-89, but fell in the championship game 92-62. Fredonia’s most recent loss came on Tuesday, falling 76-46 to the Lions.

Fredonia’S playerS to watcHThe Blue Devils are led by Robert Lyles and Tyrone Clark, the only two Fredonia players averaging double-digits. Heading into this weekend of play, Lyles is averaging 15.7 points per game while adding 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Clark is right behind Lyles, averaging 15.0 points per game while chipping in 3.7 boards and 2.3 assists per game.
