Introduction 1: Television commercials have been an important type of

advertising for a long time. The first commercial ever to beshown on television was in the United States at 14:29 on July1, 1941. The Bulova Watch Company paid nine dollars to NewYork City network WNBT for a ten-second spot, which airedbefore a baseball game. Nowadays commercial breaks bring ina lot more than that. In the USA, a half-minute television

commercial before a popular baseball-match costs about $2.4million. And commercials on television channels like ABC, CBSand NBS annually yield nearly ten billion dollars! As you cansee, entrepreneurs invest a lot of money in commercials. Butin fact, a part of this money is wasted. In this essay Im going to

discuss the use of commercials in general and specifically theeffect of irritating commercials. Although viewers do not seemto appreciate television commercials, their purchasing patterndoes get influenced by them.

Introduction 2:Despite the fact that listening to the radio is not the primary

activity most of the times and is quite different from other ways

of advertising, it is still an effective medium for commercials andadvertising. There is not a lot known about advertising on theradio and when people think of advertising, most of the timesthey think about television or other media that do have thevisual aspect. About ninety percent of the Dutch people of the

age thirteen and above listen to the radio at least once a week. This is an impressive number and it could be assumed that radiois an important medium for national advertising campaigns. Thisis not true. Only a small part of the budget for nationalcampaigns is spent on radio advertising. The effectiveness of a

radio commercial is determined by the times the listener gets incontact with the commercial, the advantages radio has, compared to other media and the relation between themessage in a commercial and its background music.

    Introduction 3:

I know that to some of you in this audience, and to the Jewish community atlarge, it sometimes seems that the United Nations served all the worlds

    peoples but one: the Jews

(Kofi Annan, speaking to the American Jewish Committee, December 1999).

This is what Kofi Annan said to the American Jewish committee, an organizationthat works to protect and strengthen Jews and Jewish life all over the world. This is quite a remarkable statement, especially because it was made by thesecretary-general of the United Nations. Indeed, it expresses the feelings of alot of Jews who feel neglected by the world community, and more specificallyby the United Nations.

These feelings actually seem justified; the UN indeed take on a biased attitudeagainst the state of Israel. This research paper will provide argumentation forthis statement. Attention will be paid to Israels accession into the UnitedNations and, more importantly, its position in the United Nations. A look atthe statistics will give a good impression of the situation, and some particularresolutions will be highlighted. The status of the Palestine LiberationOrganizations in the United Nations will also be discussed.

helps you to lose weight, get physically activeand reduce the risk of developing alzheimer. Allthis is accomplished by watching lesstelevision. Television is popular. A very lot oftime is spent on it, being easy entertainment. But it is still very unhealthy. Therefore: becausetelevision viewing is unhealthy in a number of

ways, and not much healthy aspects oftelevision viewing can be found, the greatamounts of time spent on watching televisionshould be greatly reduced.
