Power Management

1. If you press the [Power] when the product is on, you can switch to

Sleep Mode.

2. If you press the [Power] again, the Sleep Mode is terminated.

Switching to Sleep Mode

1. Slide to the [Power] in the direction of arrow and the power comes on.

2. When the product is on, slide [Power] in the opposite direction of

arrow and the power goes off.

This model supports an automatic power-saving feature to minimize

battery consumption. Depending on [Option - Setting - System - Auto

Power off], the product will be automatically turned off when keys are not

operated for a specified time. (Refer to page 20)

1. Turn on the computer and connect the product with your computer.

The internal battery will charge automatically.

Replay Time

- Continuous Book Replay Time: Max. 14,000 page view

Do not use cables other than the USB cable provided. It may cause malfunction.

Verify that the product is connected to a high-power USB 2.0 port. Some low-power

USB ports built into certain peripheral devices, such as some types of keyboards

and USB hubs without internal power may not provide enough power to charge.

While the PC is switched to Sleep Mode, the product may not be charged.

Charge and store the product only at room temperature.

Do not expose the device to extremes in temperature while recharging.

The rechargeable battery is a consumable and the available usage time of

charged battery becomes shorter over time.

The battery will be fully charged within about 4.5 hours. (Based on fully

discharged, power Off).

Charging times may vary if device is used during recharge.

If the battery is completely discharged and has not been used for a long time,

power will not come on again until it has been charged for at least ten minutes.

1. If the product does not respond to key presses, reset it by pressing

and holding the [Power] for more than 14 seconds.

Using the Reset Function

Even if you use reset function, current time and memory data will be preserved.

To avoid damaging the memory, do not use reset function while the device

is playing.

1. Turn on the device and computer.

2. If you connect the device to your computer, you will see the screen

where you can select connection mode.

- Charge Battery: The product is currently being charged.

- Connect Removable Disk: The connection between the product and the computer is established and you can start transferring data.

Do not use cables other than the USB cable provided. It may cause malfunction.

For successful computer/USB connection, disable all functions.

Check that the product is connected to a high-power USB 2.0 port. Some low-power

USB ports built into certain peripheral devices, such as some types of keyboards

and USB hubs without internal power may not provide enough power to charge.

1. Safely disconnect the product from your computer by clicking the

icon on the taskbar of the computer screen.

2. Confirm the device disconnection by clicking [Confirm].

1. After selecting files/folders to copy from your computer, drag and

drop the selected file/folder to the added drive.

2. Files (or folders) will be transferred to folders below according to

their content type.

- E-Book : book - Comic Book : comic

Copying Files (Folders) to the Product

Depending on the operating system for example Windows XP, the icon may be

hidden from the taskbar. Hidden icons can be displayed by clicking indicator.

Safe disconnection may not be performed if application programs such as

Windows Explorer or Windows Media Player are being used.

Make sure that the product is safely disconnected after all the active

application programs are closed. If safe disconnection fails, try again later.

Failure to safely disconnect result in data loss.

Please connect the USB cable properly.

If the power of the computer or product is turned off or the USB cable is disconnected

while copying or moving files/folders, serious damage to the memory may result.

Transfer rate may differ depending on the computer or OS environment

available for your region.

1. Select the files/folders to be deleted, right-click on them and select

[Delete].

2. Click [Yes] when the [Confirm File/Folder Deletion] window pops up,

and the selected files/folders will be deleted.

Deleting Files (Folders) from the Product

1. Open the cover of SD Card slot.

2. Turn the power off, place the SD

card (see the figure below) in the

SD card slot, and press gently.

3. Press it in once more and the

card can be removed.

Recommended SD cards

Insert/remove the SD card while the power is off.

Do not force the SD card. It may cause malfunction and damage to the SD card.

Do not remove the SD card when in use. It may delete data, cause

malfunction, or damage the SD card.

Please do not repeatedly insert/remove the SD card.

If the SD card is not positioned properly, the product may malfunction or

the card may become stuck.

Use only the recommended SD cards. The use of other Micro SD cards

may cause malfunction.

The transfer rate of the SD card may differ according to the computer status.

SD cards cannot be formatted using the product. Please format after

connecting the card reader or the product to the computer through UMS.

When formatting a SD card, all the data are deleted. Make sure that the

data is backed up before formatting.

It is recommended that you format a SD card to FAT 32 system.

If a SD card is not recognized or malfunctions, reformat and retry.

SD cards can be purchased separately.

It is recommended that you use a SD card up to 32GB.

Using Adobe Digital EditionsTransfer copyrighted e-book files onto the portable device easily by

using Adobe Digital Editions.

1. After you execute the Adobe Digital Editions program, please begin

the [Library-Computer Authentication] process.

2. Once you type in your ID and password on the computer's

authentication window, press the authentication button.

You can obtain the Adobe ID from the Adobe website.

3. After authentication is completed, the device installation helper

window will appear if you connect the device to your computer.

4. Press the device authentication button.

Authenticating the Computer and the Product

1. Execute the Adobe Digital Editions program.

2. Please select content to be saved on to the device and drag & drop the file.

Transferring Files to the Device

1. Please download Adobe Digital Editions from the Adobe website. Once you

finish downloading it, you will see the installation guide screen appearing.

2. Please complete the installation process by following the

step-by-step instructions.

1. Once you select [ / ] on the Home screen, you can go to the

tab of type of book.

2. In the type of book, press the [ / ] to select the type of book you

want, and press [ENTER] to display the list of book.

(In case the operation of [Option - Setting – System] is under

[Folder List], display the location of folder not the type of file.)

- Title: Specify titles in order / Recent: Specify the books recently read

FAVORITE: Designates the books registered as favorites.

Author: Specifies authors in order / Image : Indicates comic books

3. Press the [ / ], select the book you want, and press the

[ENTER] to open the book selected.

Using the [ / / / ] in the upper of product, you can operate the

same as using [ / / / ].

Supported file format: PDF, EPUB, TXT, DOC, PPT, XLS, HWP, DJVU, FB2

Supported comic book format: JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF, Zip compressed file format

For the files in progressive JPEG format, it will take longer to load the first

time and to do page turning.

- If you press the [ / ] on the file list, you can go to the previous/

next page.

- If you press and hole the [ / ] on the file list, you can continuously

go to the previous/next page.

1. In the Home screen, press [OPTION].

2. In the Option menu, press [ / ] to select [Search books],

then press [ENTER] to display a text box to enter keywords.

3. Enter a keyword, then press [ENTER] to display a list of books

containing the word.

4. In the book list, press [ / ] to select the book you want,

and press [ENTER] to open the selected book.

Searching Books

1. In the book list, press [ / ] to select the book you want,

and press the [Space] to register the book in the Favorites list.

While entering a keyword, press [DEL] to delete one letter at a time.

- While reading, press [ / ] to display the previous/next page.

- While reading, press and hold [ / ] to continuously go to the

previous/next page.

- While reading, press [ ] to rotate the previous page.

- While reading a file in pdf, press [ ] to zoom in the text when the

reflow function is off, and press [ ] to adjust the font size when

the reflow function is on.

1. While reading books, press [OPTION] to view the list of menu.

2. In the Option menu, press [ / ], select the additional features

you want, and press [ENTER] to save your settings.

- Move Page: Enables you to go to the page you entered.

- Add/Delete Bookmark: Add or delete the page you are reading to

the bookmark.

- Search Dictionary: Search it in a dictionary by entering a keyword.

+ If you enter a keyword and press [ENTER], the screen displays the

keyword definition page of English - English dictionaries.

Additional Features

+ To zoom in

Zoom in the text by pressing the [ ] and pressing [ I ].

Zoom out the text by pressing [ O ].

When zoom in function is on, go to the page you want by

pressing [ / / / ].

Press [ENTER] to confirm your settings and press [BACK] to

cancel the settings.

If the text is enlarged, press [ W(Scroll up) / A(Scroll Left) /

S(Scroll Down) / D(Scroll Right)] to go to the enlarged page.

+ Size of fonts

You can select the size of font by pressing [ ] and [ / ].

Press [ENTER] to confirm your settings.

- While reading, press [BACK] to display the previous page.

1. While reading comic books, press [OPTION].

2. In the list of option, press [ / ] to select the option you want,

and set the item to press [ENTER].

- Move Page: Enables you to go to the page you entered.

- Add/Delete Bookmark: Add or delete the page you are reading in a

bookmark.

Additional Features

+ In the keyword definition page, press [ / ] to display the

previous / next definition page.

+ In the keyword definition page, press [ / ] to display the

previous / next headword definition page.

- Bookmark And Word List: Display the list of Bookmark/Words.

- Table of Contents: If there is a table of contents in the file, you can

view it with this function.

+ If you select a table of contents, you can move to the page that

you select. (This function supports PDF/EPUB files only)

- Dithering On/Off: If the color scheme used in the original file is impossible

to reproduce, it will be replaced by one most similar to the original.

- Reflow On/Off: If the page is too crowded with text, which may make

it hard for you to read, this function will simplify the page and thereby

improve readability.

- Bold On/Off: Display screen in bold.

Depending on file format, you may not be able to see the menu.

Setup Set up the desired user environment. The pre-installed menu structure

may differ depending on the firmware version.

- Search Dictionary: Search keywords by entering it in the dictionary.

+ If you enter a keyword and press [ENTER], the screen displays

the keyword definition page of English - English dictionaries.

+ In the keyword definition page, press [ / ] to display the

previous / next definition page.

+ In the keyword definition page, press [ / ] to display the

previous / next headword definition page.

- Bookmark And Word List: Display the list of Bookmark/Words.

- Right to Left / Left to Right: Change the view type of the comic you

are reading from the right to the left, and vice versa.

- Dithering On/Off: If the color scheme used in the original file is impossible

to reproduce, it will be replaced by one most similar to the original.

- Bold On/Off: Display the screen in bold.

- Set to Sleep Mode Screen: Set the page you are reading to sleep

mode screen.

- Search: Enter keywords to search a book containing the word

in the list of book.

- Search Dictionary: Enter a search then press [ENTER] to display a

list of books containing the word.

+ Sleep Mode Screen: Sets the sleep mode screen.

iriver: Sets as the image file which iriver provides.

Personal: Sets as the image file which user saved last.

+ Scroll: Sets to go to the previous/next page if you press [ / ]

while viewing books.

System

+ Auto Power Off: Sets to automatically turn off after a specified time elapses.

+ Auto Sleep: Sets to switch into Sleep Mode after a specified time elapses.

+ Time Set: Sets the current time, date, GMT, etc.

+ Operating: Sets how to display the list of books.

+ Language: Sets the language to use.

+ Factory Reset: Restore to the status at the time of purchase.

+ System Information: Display the device system information.

+ Device Name: Sets the name to be displayed in the main screen.

+ User Information: Sets user name and telephone number.

- If the same screen is turned on for a long time, there may be an after-image on the screen.- Do not allow metal (coins, hairpins, etc.) or foreign substances that burn easily to get inside the product. It may cause failure. - Do not place heavy objects on top of the product. It may cause damage or failure.- If the product gets wet from rain, drinks, medicines, cosmetics, sweat, or moisture, do not turn the power on, and after quickly wiping the product with a dry cloth, go to the closest iriver service center and get it checked. (Failure due to submersion will be charged regardless of the warranty period, and repair may be impossible.) It may cause damage or failure.- Do not keep in places where there is moisture, dust, or soot. It may cause failure.- Do not disassemble, repair, or modify. It may cause damage or failure.- Do not keep in direct sunlight or places where the temperature is too high or too low (0°C ~ 40°C). It may cause failure.- Do not keep next to magnets, TVs, monitors, speakers, or other objects with strong magnetism. It may cause failure.- Do not use chemicals or cleaners on the product; they may degrade the surface and cause damage to the finish. It may cause failure.

- The EPD is highly susceptible to shock and pressure.

- Do not use when driving, walking, or climbing. There is danger of injury.

Sometimes, power voltage of USB ports may be different.+ I cannot open book files. - Please check if the device supports the file format. + The screen responds too slowly and it takes too much time for the after-image to disappear. - The EPD by its nature is slower than any other comparable devices; especially when it changes menu screens, it flickers and takes more time than usual. - The EPD by its nature may leave after-images on the screen. - If the EPD is exposed to low or high temperature, the device may leave more after-images and respond even slower (range of temperature for normal EPD operation: 0°C-40°C). - If the EPD is exposed to direct sunlight, the screen may leave horizontal lines. (The screen will go back to normal if you go to shaded area.)
