Together Mahatma Gandhi famously (and sadly) said: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Also, “Oh, I don’t reject Christ. I love Christ. It’s just that so many of you Christians are so unlike Christ. If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today.” This hurts. There are many who call themselves Christian, but they are not. I don’t just mean doctrinal differences, I mean those who may be correct on doctrine but they are just mean and hateful people. There are times when all of us fit this category. Don’t just think of the one who is mean all the time, think of yourself as the occasional offender. People are watching us. We know that our little children watch us, so we are on our best behavior at home. What are we like at work and in our recreation time? Do we understand the clerks, wait staff and repair personal are watching us also? How about the people on Facebook, who may not be our friend, but see our comments and posts to a mutual friend? If Christians would really live according to the teachings of Christ, as found in the Bible, all of India would be Christian today. Could this be said about every town, city, state and nation? Could it be said about our friends and neighbors, or even our relatives? We are not talking of one event, we are speaking of the total package. The Real You. Every disciple of Christ is an example. Some are a bad example and some are a good example. What kind of example do we want to be to others? No one is suggesting perfection because that is not even possible. However, we should be trying for perfection. Just good enough is not our goal. Regular attendance is only part of it. Growing spiritually and loving others as ourselves can be hard. Let’s do it. Children at Church Praying By House to House Heart to Heart I had been teaching my three-year-old daughter the mod-el prayer for several evenings at bedtime. She would repeat the lines of the prayer after me. Finally, she decid-ed to go solo.
