Knit Aid Group This group has been making Christmas tree decorations and a nativity scene, to be sold in aid of Marie Curie. The proceeds will go to help provide Marie Curie nurses for local terminally ill patients. The Knit Aid group meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month at The People’s Initiative, Scargill Walk. Members select projects to make items that will support local, national and international charities. Eastwood and District U3A December 2015, Issue 18 Dates for the Diary: Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the Month at Plumptre Hall, St. Mary’s Church, Eastwood. Wednesday December 2 nd at 10 a.m.– Community Choir and the Eastwood U3leles. Wednesday January 6 th 2016 at 10 a.m. – Barry Davies “Saints & sinners in the classroom” Wed February 3 rd at 10 a.m. – Peter Graves “ Embarrassing cases of mistaken identity” Jane Piggott a volunteer speaker with Save the Children gave the November meeting a very interesting and informative talk about the charity. The U3A group have decided to support the charity by holding a ‘Wear your Christmas Jumper Day’ on Wed December 2 nd . Members are asked to wear their Christmas jumpers and donate £1, which will go to Save the Children. Message from the Chairman The U3A is, by definition, for people in their third age, who are more likely than many to suffer from periods of ill health and bereavement. Our Welfare Coordinator, Barbara, has been very busy trying to find a strategy to ensure all those experiencing serious health issues or bereavement are not missed. She has some very useful guidelines already but I am sure she would be pleased to receive support and suggestions from you, the members. We have a very busy December meeting with some great entertainment to get us in the mood for the Christmas season. The Committee and I wish you all a Healthy and Happy Christmas and New Year. KNIT AID needs your spare wool. Bring it to the main December meeting. Any oddments or types. Remember to wear your Christmas Jumper Wednesday 2 nd December meeting. All money raised for Save the Children No tour of Scotland is complete without grand scenery and plenty of whisky and we were not disappointed. Six of us were welcomed to the Ben Doran hotel in Tyndrum. From here we enjoyed four days touring the Lochs and Islands, the famous Grouse Experience, Loch Lomond, Oban and the Sound of Mull, together with stunning scenery of Glen Coe. The visit culminated with a Highland Concert at Fort William where a haggis was ceremonially dispatched.
