Summer Worship Schedule
Dear EPC family and friends,
On Sunday, June 4th, we will join churches around the world as we celebrate Pentecost. Pentecost is the birthday
of the church and the “official” coming of the Holy Spirit as recorded in Acts 2. The word “Pentecost” comes
from a Greek word pentekostos which means “fiftieth day” because Pentecost falls 50 days after Easter. The
liturgical color for Pentecost is red to symbolize the power and fire of the Spirit. With the coming of the spirit,
the people of different languages understood one another.
Peter, one of the disciples, stood up and preached, and scripture tells us about 3,000 were added to the church
that day!
You are invited to join in the celebration of Pentecost on Sunday, June 4 as we recognize our 2016-2017
teachers, honor our graduates, commission youth going to Montreat and welcome 6 new young people into the
life of the church. We also encourage you to take a look at the many items of the church’s “wish list” and bring
them wrapped in red, orange or yellow as a gift to the church on this birth day! Please wear red, orange or
yellow as a reminder of the Spirit that descended upon the people like tongues of fire.
Pentecost reminds us that the journey of faith is not a lonely journey. We are part of a community and we have
the Holy Spirit to lead us.

Children’s Worship Bags
The Children and Youth Faith Formation Committee
will re-introduce the Worship bags for children this
summer instead of Crayon Corner. The bags will be
filled with a Children's Bulletin and an assortment of
items to keep our children engaged during Service this
summer. But we need volunteers who can stuff the
bags each week prior to Sunday. If you can help,
please email Mike Moorshead at
[email protected] or Ellen Irick at
[email protected] and we'll send instructions.
The Outreach Committee is pleased to announce our
2nd Annual Eastminster Summer Food Drive. This
year's drive will begin on Sunday, June 11 and
conclude on Sunday, August 13. Members and guests
are encouraged to bring Non-Perishable food items to
donate. Last summer, we collected 1042 items for
members of our community who struggle with hunger,
especially when school is in recess. This summer, our
goal is 1500 items and we will split the donations
between Golden Strip Emergency Relief and United
Ministries.
Next time you visit the grocery store, remember your
neighbors and bring an extra can or box to donate.

Small Group Ministry Opportunities
EPC Women’s Circles will meet for
the final time in June before taking a
summer break. In this year’s study
we explored the question “Who is
Jesus?” through a variety of lens and
found that no one lens provides the
ultimate answer. We are each on our
own journey of faith but together have grown into a
deeper understanding of who Jesus is and who, through
Jesus, God is calling us to be.
Morning Circle will meet on Thursday June 8 at 10:00 at
the home of Claire Steed to discuss Lesson Nine. Ladies
are reminded to bring toiletries for Place of Hope and
canned corn for the Food Bank at United Ministries. For
more information, contact [email protected].
Evening Circle will meet on Monday June 5 at 7 p.m. in
the church conference room to discuss Lessons Eight and
Nine. For more information, contact
