Located at 13000 Emerald Pass, Eastlake
High School will open as a small
comprehensive high school serving
students from Col. John O. Ensor Middle
School and Desert Wind School, which
currently feed in to Americas and Socorro
high schools. The inaugural class is
anticipated to consist of 500 freshman
students. Each year, a new freshman class
will be added.
Eastlake, which has a capacity of 1,200,
will open with facilities equitable to those
found at the Dis t r ict’s ex i s t ing
comprehensive high schools. Completion
of future phases will allow Eastlake to
grow into a comprehensive 5A high
school.
Angelica Ramsey will serve as principal
of Eastlake High School. She has been
promoted from her previous position of
assistant principal at Socorro High School,
a position she held for three years. Prior
to becoming an administrator, Mrs.
Ramsey taught, coached softball and
held a variety of leadership positions as
a member of the Socorro faculty. She
holds a bachelor’s degree from the
University of the Pacific and a master’s in
Educational Administration from the
University of Texas at El Paso. She currently
is pursuing her doctorate degree in
Educational Leadership through Liberty
University.

Advancement Via IndividualDeterminationProgram Description and BenefitsAVID (Advancement Via IndividualDetermination) is a college-readinesssystem designed to increase the numberof students who enroll in four-yearcolleges. Although AVID serves allstudents, it focuses on the least servedstudents in the academic middle. Theformula is simple - raise expectations ofstudents and, with the AVID supportsystem in place, they will rise to thechallenge.
At the high school level, students areenrolled in rigorous college prepartoryclasses and receive support in AVID, an

academic elective class taught withinthe school day by a trained AVID teacher.In this class students receive supportthrough a rigorous curriculum andongoing, structured tutorials. AVID electiveteachers support AVID students byproviding academic training, managingtheir tutorials, working with faculty andparents, and by helping students developlong-range academic and personalplans.

Program Description and BenefitsGreen technologies are no longer thewave of tomorrow, but are the reality oftoday. Eastlake’s Alternative Energypathway will provide students with a strongbackground in the study of electronics.Students will have the opportunity to usetheir skills to explore the following areas:Energy and Power, Passive and Active SolarTechnologies, Photovoltaic (PV) Systems,and Wind Power.
The southwest, to include El Paso, has anemerging market for Alternative Energies.The career paths in this field are high skilled,in high demand, and lead to high pay.This pathway can lead to both careercertifications and the preparation for
advanced college degrees. As part ofthe four year program, students will havethe opportunity to earn an ElectronicsTechnicians Association Certification in thearea of: Alternative Energy, Solar, Wind,Micro Hydro, or Geothermal.

Eastlake High School will be the first highschool in the area to offer MandarinChinese to students. Eastlake is devotedto ensuring that our students remaincompetitive with their peers in skill set.Students will learn Chinese from fullycertified teachers based in China. Theywill also gain insight and build a globalperspective as they build relationshipswith Chinese pen pals and learn aboutChinese culture.

Transfer applications are available for anyfirst year ninth grader who is interested inattending Eastlake High School. In-districtincoming freshmen who live outside of theEastlake attendance zone are eligible toapply. Out-of-district incoming freshmenare also eligible to apply. Open enrollmentstudents must provide their owntransportation. Out-of-district tuition feeswill be waived.
