Our Easter Hope

Our week of pageantry, ceremony, drama and song has ended here, at the empty tomb. It is a peculiar ending to the passion of the week. A hollow

place, not much to see. Truthfully, there is nothing there. The body of Jesus is gone. But the wrappings are there.

Appearances will follow. Magnificent reunions, tearful embraces, and shared meals as of old. But in this hour, with only a tomb for testimony, the disciples

believe.

This is the Easter faith, the hope that arises out of empty places, evidenced by no more than a cloth laid aside. Happy indeed are those who have not seen

and have believed.

Our East hope contains a commissioning: to spread the Good News to the ends of the earth.

May Christ arise in us this season, in our community, our families;; may his spirit of hope enliven us and send us out.

Entrance Song No 361 (Gather) Jesus Christ Is Risen Today Opening Prayer Let us pray ( on this Easter morning for the life that never again shall see darkness). God our Father, creator of all, today is the day of Easter joy. This is the morning on which the Lord appeared to his followers who had begun to lose hope and opened their eyes to what the scriptures foretold: that first he must die, and then he would rise and ascend into his Father’s glorious presence. May the risen Lord breathe on our minds and open our eyes that we may know him in the breaking of bread, and follow him in his risen life. First Reading Acts 10:34. 37-43 Peter began to speak to those assembled in the house of Cornelius. “you know the message God sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Gali-lee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. “We are wit-­nesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as wit-nesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. “He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory.

Gospel John 20: 1-9 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciples set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He net down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went in to the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there and the cloth that had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. RAILACO

Project Lorosae began with a visit to the parish of Railaco, East Timor by four parishioners in January 2004. They recognised the need for education, medical assistance and for a food programme. Consequently the parish established three projects: A mobile medical clinic Support for the secondary school A feeding programme for the students Each year at Easter we ask for support for our projects in East Timor. All

donations are fully tax deductible and we rely on your generosity. PROJECT COMPASSION Please return your donations for Project Compassion in the next couple of weeks. I.T. SUPPORT IN THE PARISH OFFICE. Can you assist? The Pastoral Council needs help with its IT management and development capability as it up-dates and improves the performance of this capability. Parishioners or friends of the parish who are qualified and willing to assist with management of a typical database, our website and routine Weekly Bulletin publishing and communication activity – as well as a potential foray into social media – are invited to express their interest. Our needs are fairly straightforward and we do have access to professional technical support for complex issues. It is maintaining records and managing content that are our principal interests. Ideally we'd like to have people contribute to this important parish capability on a regular basis and over a reasona-ble length of time. We envisage a relatively light workload, and are flexible as to work times. If you have the skills, interest and time we would love to hear from you.
