Baptism.. Expectant parents are to par ticipate in the Baptism
preparation program offered in February, June and October. The
Baptisms are then scheduled for the second and fourth Sundays of the
month, after the 10:00 a.m. Mass
Marriage.. Arrangements must be made at least six months in
advance by contacting the parish pastor.
Anointing of the Sick.. (which was known as Extreme Unction or
Last Rites) has taken a different connotation since The Second Vatican
Council. The sacrament is celebrated not only for those who are dying,
but to those preparing for major surgery, the aged, and the sick. It is
time for the Church to pray for and with those who are ill and anoint
them with oil. The proper celebrant of this sacrament is a priest. Those
who desire to receive this sacrament are to contact Fr. Martin,
in advance.
Penance . . Saturday afternoon 3:15 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.
or by appointment
As members of God’s family, Christ the King Parish will always be a
welcoming community that comforts, shares its Catholic faith, and
inspires others.

Praised be Jesus Christ! Some years ago there was an article about a city in Turkey (Malatya) that equipped their local morgue with the latest motion detector gadgetry in case any of the bodies stored there had been declared dead by mis-take. Given that today is Easter, one does wonder what such technology would have recorded had it been available the night of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. However, for those who think this would be sufficient evidence to convince our fallen world, recall Abraham’s words in Jesus’ story from the 16th chapter of Saint Luke’s Gospel: “If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead,” (Luke 16:31). By the way, a very Blessed and Happy Easter to you and your loved ones! Because we’ve had a rigorous series on the Ten Com-mandments, you’ve earned a briefer column this week. Easter made the Sacraments possible because Jesus conquered sin and death by His Resurrection. Now we are blessed to be able to go to Mass every Sunday and even every day if we’re able and inclined to do so. As the great Jacques Bossuet once wrote, “Nothing is greater in the universe than Jesus Christ, and nothing is greater in Jesus Christ than His sacrifice.” Therefore, assisting at the Mass is the greatest human activity you can engage in during this lifetime. It’s too bad we fail to realize this and some of it is because even priests do not al-ways believe it. There used to be a plaque in sacristies that priests were invited to read just before offering the Mass – it said, “Oh, priest of God, celebrate this Mass as if it were your first Mass, your last Mass, your only Mass.” Well, we priests are human and sometimes we are tired, distracted, or just not emotionally engaged. Your job is to pray for us – God knows I pray for you all the time and it’s wearing me out! Jesting aside, let me encourage you to have Masses said for your loved ones, both living or deceased. Nothing is more powerful in helping people get to Heaven than to offer a Mass for them. You can do so by calling the office and scheduling one. Keep in mind that the calendar fills quickly; we are happy to have a retired priest offer the Mass or to send them on to the mis-sions. There is a $10.00 offering that the priest can keep or give away (many give these “stipends” away as they are taxa-ble income). For the record, there are recommended offer-ings for a couple of the Sacraments: $10.00 for Baptism, and $75.00 for a Wedding Mass. These fees are put into the “Custodial Account” and are used for charitable works, such as gas and food vouchers for the needy or as donations to the Hannah Center or St. Vincent de Paul. We also use this ac-count to help people pay for their annulments. You might be surprised at how much good your parish is doing in this com-munity. And it all begins with the holy Mass! As G.K. Chester-ton once remarked, “The Mass is long and boring, unless you really love God.”
May God bless you with the unshakeable hope of His Risen Son this Easter!

Doing your spring cleaning * Please keep in mind we will be collecting gently used, clean winter outerwear items in October of 2017 for
Mariann’s Closet at Spencer Schools. Last year was a huge success and we would like to continue this tradition. Mariann Maki was a beloved 4K
teacher who lost her battle to cancer 5 years ago. Even though Mariann and Oskar never had kids of their own, Mariann loved to shop clearance
racks and garage sales to find deals on clothes for her nieces, nephews, friends’ kids and kids at school in need. Kids outgrow coats, hats and
boots so quickly! To keep Mariann's spirit of giving alive, it makes sense to trade and share outerwear your family no longer needs to help keep
all Spencer kids warm next winter. Drop off gently used, clean winter outerwear items kids have outgrown at any of these locations October of
2017. Sizes can range from 4 year old to adult sizes that will fit high school students. Note: Donations will not be taken until October of 2017’', but
keep in mind when packing away winter items this spring.
St Mary’s Parish in Colby is organizing a bus trip to see the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse
The trip to La Crosse will be Saturday, May 20th. We will leave St Mary’s parking lot at 7:30 am and return about 5:30 pm. If there are people from
your parish interested, we would make a stop in Spencer. The cost will be $25.00 per person. Lunch will be on your own. There are picnic tables
available for you to bring a sack lunch, and they also have a café on the grounds. You can site see at your leisure. You can visit the Pilgrim
Center, Mother of Good Counsel Votive Chapel, Outdoor Stations of the Cross, Rosary Walk, Memorial to the Unborn, Devotional Ares, and the
Shrine Church for Mass. The paths are smooth for walking and there are golf carts available for those who cannot walk the path to the Shrine
Church. We have seats available on the bus and would like to invite parishioners from your parish to travel with us. If you are interested, please
call St. Mary’s Parish Center at 715-223-3048 at ext 1 and speak to Chris.
Want more love and joy in your Marriage and Family? The Domestic Church movement is coming to the Diocese of La Crosse. It is a lay led
ministry for sacramentally married couples that enhances marriage and family life by opening the treasures of the Church's teachings on love and
life. We invite all couples to take part in this initiative. The first step is to attend the evangelization retreat that will be held at St. Anthony
Spirituality Retreat Center on May 18-21 (Thursday evening through Sunday at noon). Couples who attend the retreat tell us how wonderful
it is to experience the love of Christ together as spouses. If you need more information about this movement, please call 608-791-2673 or email
[email protected]. To register online go to: http://diolc.org/marriage/ and click on marriage enrichment.
