Each and every Sunday we clearly confess that we believe in the resurrection of the body and in the life of the world to come! This means that we believe that Jesus actually died on the cross and was buried and that on the third day he rose from the dead. The women who ran to the tomb believed, at first, that someone had stolen his body. The apostles, Peter and John, who ran to the tomb on hearing it had been ransacked, were also incredulous. It was only after Mary Magdalene heard “the gardener” call out her name that she realized that Jesus had truly come back to life.
If Christ had not been raised then we would still be living with the guilt of our sins and would have no cause for hope, which is why Paul so clearly testifies: Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me.
Those who believe in only what they can perceive and measure with their senses may claim that faith in the resurrection is utter nonsense for which there is not a shred of proof. To which I respond: I know that my redeemer lives and that one day I shall see him face to face. I experience his presence in both the ordinary and extraordinary events of daily life. I once knew the bitterness of the guilt and shame that resulted from my sins and now I know the joy that comes from God’s rich mercy. I once was lost but now am found, was blind and now I see.
Faith is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen; and the evidence for things we cannot yet see. Those who are seeking the love of the Risen Lord will find it whenever they come before him with humble and contrite hearts. Easter has just begun and it will not be complete until the festival of Pentecost is celebrated in fifty days. Let us prepare each day for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit so that through us God can make all things new. We are risen with the Lord!
Christ is Risen!
Alleluia, Alleluia!

As Lent began, many of us took a slip of purple paper from the cross which bore the name of one of our candidates or catechumens. If you have been praying for them throughout the Lenten season, now is the time to send them a note or a card informing them of your prayers and welcoming them to the Church.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT TRAINING
Wednesday, April 8th 7:00 pm McConnell Room
If you use the nursery it would be greatly appreciated if you would consider showing your gratitude by donating just an hour or two a month to help out in the nursery. The nursery is operated by people who are willing to give a little bit of time so that your children have a safe alternative where they can enjoy the time while you are in mass. If we had enough people willing to help we could provide more services but we are limited by those available and trained. Workers can be volunteer or paid but must be at least 14 years old. If you want to help with Vacation Bible School, you will need to be trained in Safe Environment. All volunteers in the parish whose work brings them into regular contact with children must be trained in the requirements of our Safe Environment program. It basically involves watching and discussing the special video provided to us by the Archdiocese. Each volunteer must also undergo a background check at parish expense. We cannot be too careful in making sure our children and young people are in a safe environment here at the church and at church events off campus.

All our homebound and infirm parishioners are being looked after by very special Care-Givers. Please be sure to remember them in your prayers as well. Sometimes people wonder how they can really pray for so many people. Here’s a tip for a prayer at any time of the day or night:
Dear Lord, I commend to you all the infirm and homebound members
of our parish family. Please give them and their caregivers every grace and blessing.
