The resurrection of Jesus Christ. We celebrate this event on the last day of this

month of March. Let me remind us, if we need a reminder, why it is so special a

day.

We have all seen dead bodies. Maybe in a casket at a funeral home or at a funeral

service. Maybe in a nursing home or a hospital room or a room at home, where a

hospice nurse or a nursing home nurse or hospital nurse has told us, “It is over.

Your loved one has died.”

We have all seen the bodies of one whose feet used to accompany us on a walk, or

whose hands used to make things which were a part of our life, or whose mouth

used to speak words of encouragement, or whose eyes used to sparkle with joy or

glee. We have all seen dead bodies.

The women went to the tomb after the Sabbath was over, so that they might see a

dead body. They had no hope of anything different. They went, as Max Lucado

once wrote, “To prepare his body for burial. They are there to clean the blood from

his beard. To wipe the crimson from his legs. To close his eyes. To touch his face.

Theirs is a somber duty.” [Max Lucado, “He Still Moves Stones”]

They expected to ask the guards to move the stone for them. But the guards were

not there. What was there was a stone already rolled away, an empty tomb, and an

angel who announced that Jesus had risen from the dead.

Later that day, in the Upper Room, Jesus appeared. He said to the amazed disci-

ples: “’Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me

and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see

that I do.’ As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet.” [Luke 24:39-40]

Since that morning, on every Lord’s Day, Christians have gathered to proclaim the

resurrection. We proclaim every Sunday, “He is risen from the dead.”

And because he is risen, we also shall rise. Feet that were stopped, hands that were

stilled, hearts that no longer beat, eyes that no longer twinkle, will meet a resur-

rected Lord, who will say to them, “Child, arise.”

Easter is a very special day.

The Pontoppidan Prayer Chain prays for people in

need. Often these are members of Pontoppidan

who ask for prayers for healing or comfort or

strength. Sometimes the Prayer Chain prays for

relatives or friends of our members. People on the

Prayer Chain are contacted by phone as the

needs arise.

If you would like to know more about the

Pontoppidan Prayer Chain, or would like to

make this a part of your ministry, contact

Audrey Bueide or Hope Hektner, or the Church

Office.

Thursdays at 6 pm beginning April 4.

Bring a sack lunch.

Daycare available.

Sign-up on the bulletin board

in main church hallway.

Caring For Our Neighbors

We are ‘marching’, ‘marching’ for the LORD our God to help us launch our Minnesota Food Share Campaign. The YWCA benefits from this in poundage received from the non-perishable food items collected. The more poundage, the bigger share and help the YWCA receives. Please place your donations in the CART. They will also accept cash donations which can be left in the church office. This Spring we will be shipping “BABY CARE KITS” to LWR. The following items needed are:

Two (2) light weight cotton shirts Two (2) long or short sleeved gowns or sleepers (without feet) Two (2) receiving blankets, medium weight cotton or flannel or crocheted or knitted with light weight yarn, up to 52” square Four (4) cloth diapers, flat fold preferred 12-13” x 16” One (1) jacket, sweater or sweatshirt with a hood or include a baby cap Two (2) pair of socks One (1) hand towel, dark colored recommended Two (2) bath size bars (4-5 oz) of gentle soap in original wrapping Two (2) diaper pins or large safety pins

Gently used, clean items (no stains or tears) can be substituted for new ones. Sizes can be up to 24 months. These items may be placed in a “blue bin” by the church office. Remember - we always need bath size bars of soap in original wrapping.

“Father in heaven help me to put my faith into action by assisting my neighbor in need.”

Amen
