MEDIA ADVISORY ANNUAL EASTER CELEBRATION FOR HOMELESS Volunteers Wash the Feet of the Homeless, New Socks and Shoes Distributed WHAT The 18 th Annual Easter Celebration brings together over 500 men, women and families at the Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence Street Shelter. Each year the Mission partners with Volunteers of America, Runners Roost/New Balance and Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center to serve those in need. With the help of over 50 volunteers, homeless and low- income guests will receive worship and communion, foot washing and medical exam, an Easter meal and brand new shoes and socks, generously donated by Runner’s Roost and New Balance. The menu includes, honey glazed spiced hickory ham, minced garlic mashed potatoes with gravy, crisp green bean casserole, corn niblets, steamed rolls, fresh salad, and assorted desserts. Highlighting Foot Washing and Shoe Distribution: In the humility of this special holiday, volunteers will join in washing the feet of homeless and low-income men, women and children. Basic podiatry care will also be provided by doctors from Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. Many homeless individuals have never been touched in a caring way. One of the experiences homeless people lack is the caring touch that most of us take for granted. In addition, most homeless people never receive something new, such as a pair of socks and shoes.
