ear GlobeMed partners, students and friends,
hank you for joining us for this wonderful moment in GlobeMed’s
story. It has been an exciting six years. Some of you have been with us
hen we first set out. Some have joined along the way. You have each
haped the path we've taken together.
ur African partners, from Hohoe, Ghana to Gulu, Uganda to Huye,
wanda and many places in between, have taught us that health for all is
ithin our grasp, if we work together. In the United States, this belief has
spired over 3,000 young leaders to help realize health equity by
upporting visionary grassroots organizations around the world.
e believe that many of our students will one day hold positions of
adership across borders and sectors. Because of your mentorship, they
ill know how to leverage their resources to serve the dreams of
rassroots communities. They have seen their partners transform the
ystems that aff ect communities across this continent. They have formed
endships with the individuals who know best what grassroots
ommunities need. Today, alumni are carrying these values and
xperiences into the world, working to change broken systems from the
side out.
GlobeMed alumni recently described our events as "A family reunion
ith people you've never met." Your communities in Uganda, Rwanda,
enya, Ghana and Togo have become a second home to many of us in the
obeMed Network. The East Africa Forum -- the first of its kind for our
rganization -- feels a bit like a family reunion. We have had a desire to
ring us all together for many years. Today, thanks to the support of the
egal Family Foundation, we finally have the chance to gather around the
ame table.
hrough the privilege our partnership, we have learned just how much
ou have to share with one another. During this weekend, we encourageou to "Speak with the possibility of being heard, and listen with the possibility
f being changed ." As teachers and friends, you have taught us how to
ten and to transform. We hope you give each other the same gift. Over
e next two days, we look forward to listening, learning, and growing
ongside you.
ith warmth, excitement, and tremendous gratitude,
yssa, Maya, and the GlobeMed National Office Team
