Earth’s Rotation
K. Williams, PRES
We can’t feel it, but the Earth is spinning.
It spins on a pretend line called the axis.
The axis goes through the North Pole at the top of the
Earth and the South Pole and the bottom.
Earth spinning on its axis is called rotation.
Rotation takes 24 hours. 24 hours is the same as one day.
Rotation gives us day and night.
The Earth is spinning, so one side gets light and one side is
dark.
Half of Earth is having daylight. This side is next to the Sun.
The other half is having night. This side is not next to the Sun.
The Earth spins or rotates in the direction of a backwards
clock.
