Quiet Signal

• I know it may seem silly and you may feel foolish doing this, but when everyone participates, it is very effective.

• If you see me raise my hand, stop talking to your neighbors, even if you are in mid-sentence, and raise your own hand until everyone in the room is quiet.

• If you cannot get quiet, a consequence for breaking rules will be applied.

Page 11: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Attendance

• 10 days

• If you go past 10 and feel you are justified in appealing to SSMT, you will need to prove to them you didn’t skip a single one of those 10 days so…SAVE all doctor’s notes, etc. Don’t bring them to me – save them in case you need them.

• Come to class. Get exempt from the exam!! Trust me – the exemption is worth it!

• Don’t lose credit due to absences!

Page 12: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Tardies• I enforce the tardy policy. When the bell rings, I close the

door. If I have to let you in, you’re tardy.

• You may not stand outside my door and block my door before the bell rings.

• A Tardy occurs if you are not fully in the classroom at the last bell. No exceptions. 1st Tardy-warning 2nd Tardy-write 5 vocabulary words and their

definitions from the chapter we are working on 5x each.

Classroom Procedures

• Arrive on time…I enforce the tardy policy.

• Read the day’s agenda.

• Get out your notebook…every day!

• There will be focus questions every day. Be prepared!

• Remain in your seat until bell rings…I dismiss the class.

Page 15: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Classroom Procedures• Please go potty before you get to class.

• School policy is that NO ONE is allowed out of classroom during the 1st 15 minutes.

• You have been assigned 6 emergency passes. Use them wisely because they are the ONLY ones you will get all semester.

• At the end of the semester – for every line you have left – I add ½ point to your final grade. If you don’t use any, you have the opportunity to

add 3 points to your final semester average! This has helped many people in the past – people

have gone from failing to passing, from C’s to B’s and from B’s to A’s! Use your pass sparingly and wisely!

• I do not let people leave the room to see other teachers, go to the library, go to guidance (unless they tell me you have an appointment), etc. so please don’t ask. The answer is always NO!

• Student does not get out of seat during class without permission (even to sharpen pencil and get Germ-x)

• One person talks at a time…RAISE YOUR HAND!

• School dress code is strictly adhered to (need I say more?)

• Work only on Earth Science…I confiscate stuff for 7 days…even calculators & other hw.

• Stay in seat until bell rings – I dismiss class, not the bell – NO standing near the door.

• All other school rules apply. Rules are subject to change…

Page 18: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Cell Phones and Electronic Devices

• No cell phones or electronic devices allowed (have turned off and out of sight) – School policy strictly enforced

• If you choose to use a cell phone or any other electronic device in class, I will ask for it once. If you choose not to give it to me, I will not say anything else about it but I will let administration handle it.

• To keep me from even thinking you are using a cell phone or electronic device, please follow these rules : Keep book bags closed Keep purses under desk and closed throughout class Keep hands out of pockets Nothing on desks but books we are using and work

we are doing in class. Sweaters, jackets, etc. either on or behind your desk

(not halfway on in front of you)

Home Work Policy

• Your work is due at the beginning of class on the date assigned.

• Basically – Assignments are due when they are due!

• Work turned in after I empty the tray is considered late!

• Work turned in without a name will be thrown away. Don’t lose credit for not putting your name on an assignment!

Late Work Policy

THEDOGATEMYHOMEWORKCOUPON

• Maximum grade that can be earned on late work:

• 1 day late 90%

• 2 days late 80%

• 3 days late 70%

• 4 days late…forget about it!

• Directed Reading Worksheets are NEVER accepted late and they count as a quiz grade! They are given at the beginning of a chapter and you have ample time to work on them. I collect them prior to the Chapter Test. If you miss the test, then it is due when you take the test.

Fire Drill

• Turn left out of classroom

• Turn left down stairs

• Turn left and go out door – not the door that leads to the patio!

• Go over by fence at football field

• FIND ME so I can check you in!

• I will be the “nerdy” one holding up the yellow “flag”

• Not checking in with me results in a negative consequence.

Page 24: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Tornado Drill

• Go left outside classroom door

• Go downstairs

• Turn right into Computer hallway

• Find a place to sit against the lockers

• You will be cramped

Page 25: Earth/Environmental Science Mrs. Rowley Expectations of Myself Nurture your curiosity Provide support & encouragement Make every minute count Do you.

Code 300• I take these very seriously. I don’t know it’s a

drill – they don’t tell me!

• Quietly sit behind lab table at front of room. If there isn’t room for everyone to not be seen from doorway, sit against drawers next to my desk, NOT behind my desk.

• No talking, using cellphones, etc. Sleep if you choose!

• The ONLY thing that ends a Code 300 is an administrator unlocking the door. Do not respond to fire alarms, noises, etc. unless I tell you otherwise.

• Not taking a Code 300 seriously (I hear you talking or making noise or anything that results in our classroom being singled out) results in a “2nd Offense” negative consequence.
